      Tundras can tow but the payload is nothing to brag about even for a half ton. Not to mention long beds are almost non existent. I really wish Toyota and Honda had chosen to make heavy duty pickups. Who knows what the future holds but it’s unlikely it’ll ever happen if it hasn’t by now.

      (My EV Rant) > I don't want to drive a computer, i don't want a computer to drive me! I don't want to interact with my vehicle i want to drive and control the vehicle myself. I don't need any help to drive my own car. This smart vehicle (if you want to call it that) is a stupid idea. I will never own a high tech EV. i'll buy a horse instead that way i can interact with my ride in a more natural way like god intended us to live our life. Screw all this extra high technology crap cause thats what it is. The American public never wanted crap like this there pushing this junk down every ones throat. I don't want a car that will put out a boatload of (RFs) that will give me and my passengers cancer. Oh our high tech vehicles won't cause cancer! Yeah right !!!

Seriously, if anyone is on the fence about getting one of these, I HIGHLY recommend them.

  • @denisperret3658
    @denisperret3658 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Love everything Scotty say about this truck, however there is a major misstatement (2min 55) regarding the timing belt and the design of the engine.
    2000 to 2004 V8 4.7l are NOT INTERFERENCE EMGINE. Therefore if your timing belt brakes, just get everything back in time and install a new belt.
    My son’s 2001 lost the belt at 75 mph on interstate, we bought it a few weeks back and obviously it desperately needed a new one. It was sitting for months and we should have replaced it immediately. Anyway, replaced this weekend and the Tundra is as good as new.
    I don’t recommend to wait until it brakes but this isn’t the end if it does.
    Luckily we knew 2 Toyota mechanics and they both told us not to panic, these models years are literally bulletproof.
    Hopefully this will help as the internet isn’t always right.

      Honestly, I probably won't put a supercharger on my 06 Tundra because I bought it specifically with longevity in mind... Getting a little extra power to push around 300hp would be pretty nice though. Oh well, maybe I'll buy a "toy" one day to play around with power numbers. It may sound silly or stupid to others, but it sounds like a fun project to me.

    I had a 2007 ram 2500 hemi that I did a ton of work to, tires,brakes, suspension work. Towed a trailer that I think weighed around 8k 600 miles and got a transmission noise …it’s toast. This was WELL within its rating (around 11k) but it just couldn’t do it. Got an 07 tundra to make the next trip. We are moving and I need a reliable truck that won’t break every. 5 minutes ..and yes….it has the “made in USA” badge under the hood.

    I have a 2002 4.7L Tundra. Has 162,000 miles on it, and it still runs and looks like new. The timing belt was changed at 91,000 miles. The fact that there are still so many of these on the road is a testament to their reliability. I've had a lot of people ask if I was interested in selling it. I absolutely love mine, and wouldn't trade or sell it for anything! Judging from the longevity other folks get from their Tundras, it'll probably out last me!

    My favorite pickup is a Ssangyong Musso Sport. You know why? I had a business in Senegal and drove about 40.000 miles in 3 years before I sold it (still running). Equipped with a 2.9 liter 5 cylinder turbocharged diesel it can officially pull 7.5 tons incl its weight. It's a licensed Mercedes engine. I had a range of easily 1000 km on a tank filling wich is 80 liters under very hard conditions and fully loaded. I did extremely tough offroading including desert type conditions and in the jungle. Sometimes no roads just riverbeds. We put in a higher suspension in the back for 25cm more clearance and when fully loaded the trailoer hitch touched the road sometimes. It was really wild and I praise the lord for giving me this experience. You cannot imagine the road conditions over there and it never let me down. And the mechanics always could fix it because it is so simple. Btw I am a petrolhead myself, that is why I love your show.

    Bought a 2000 2wd v8 Tundra last year with 317k miles and hauled a camper that was probably around 9-10k pounds for 4 hours while the tow hitch was half way to the ground. Still using that Tundra with 322k miles now as a daily driver while getting my other car (with only 68k miles on it) fixed up. That's how reliable those trucks are.

    Yep - solid trucks for sure. My brother has a 2000 Tundra that he got used around 15 years ago. Normally, he's the sort of person that cycles his vehicles every 3 to 5 years (sometimes even less) but that Tundra is the one vehicle he never gets rid of. After tons of use over the last decade and a half, he said he's still spent nothing on it other than brakes and oil changes.

    Had a 1997 F-250 SD with the 7.3turbo diesel, I sold it last year for $2500, I paid $4000 when it had 150k. When I sold it it had 400k+ miles. The speedometer had broken years ago. Now the amazing part. This was a work truck. On any given day it was pulling a 18k backhoe on a trailer or carrying 2 pallets of concrete bags, or tons of rebars. Last few years I was doing demolition. it would carry the full size ext bed with concrete ruble way over the top. Anyway, never replaced turbo, transmissions, rear end, or anything major. Just fuel pumps, and filters. Of course the inside and things like power handles kept breaking off. The Truck paid for itself many many times over... BTW the guy I sold it to, a mechanic, turned into a portable service truck and it is still running. So Scotty, your Toyota is not even close.

    5:47 The 2UZ has pretty thin connecting rods, so forced induction isn't really an option if you want reliable power because it can break them. This is why Toyota barely sold TRD superchargers for it. If you really want to have more power in the 2UZ, you should swap in thicker early-year (89-94) 1UZ connecting rods or forged aftermarket ones first.
