  • This are the things I look for when looking at carriers. I’ve gone through over a half dozen and then some over the last 20 years, and my requirements update as time has gone on. I will also cover some of the personal “whys” in the equipment I selected for the carrier shown.
    This isn’t an end all be all video on carrier setup, but a thorough look at the items you should consider when selecting the equipment to build out your fighting load with a plate carrier.

    Take a Bic ink pen. Pop the little cap off the end and put it to the side. Take out your knife and cut
    1.5" -3.5" off of the pen. Put the plug back in. Boom! Pens fit in your built in admin pouch.
    Also, check out A&A Tactical shoulder pads with Micro Fight fat straps. More people should know about that.

    Another very detailed video - outstanding! Everything is so 'specialized' now. Wonder how many people watching your videos have climbed over a wall (the kind you pull yourself up and over - not roping up) wearing a loaded out plate carrier or chest rig? Might want to practice that - might make some adjustments afterwards.

    I have a molle slickster, and I've had some issues with the shoulder straps giving a little more slack over time.
    Not a particularly heavy load. 3 mags up front, one on the side and some level 4 plates from rma.
    My solution was to make double sure the length was where I wanted, and I just stitched the shoulder straps together since I'm handy with a needle and thread.

    Carriers have came a long way in a year. Your point of not having material more in contact with the plate bag and tearing out was my main concern when i went to upgrade my carrier. I ended up getting a K19. Mainly for the construction and comfort. The 3.0 is ready for all the new bells and whistles. I still run the legacy stuff.

And I exercise in it to keep the cardio up . The only downside is good equipment cost good money. Drones have become big, thermals have become big, I dont see discussions to counter those.

    • @Blakewater0326
      @Blakewater0326  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Those are more prevalent, yes. The first step remains the same as always: fieldcraft. Personal camouflage, use of cover and concealment, terrain masking, route selection, movement techniques; all of these things have and will continue to mitigate and defeat enemy visual detection.
      I have not looked into the Spectraflage, though I am familiar with Relv camo systems and they seem like means of enhancing personal camouflage.

    I love the tourniquet setup on outboard sides of the placard. I have a question though, how are you securing them in that fashion? I know they have their own pouches but are they attached via molle or some sort of wing under the placard. I run spear tubes on my cumberbund and a placard. I have looked around for a wing that would secure them. Mostly wings for radios that run under the cumberbund. Thank you for all the differing points and the thought processes.

    what carrier color would you recomend? i was thinking green or tan, I'm in the midwest lots of corn. ik black sticks out in nature which was my thought.

    • @Blakewater0326
      @Blakewater0326  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So colors are meant to blend with our background. Patterns do better than solids at not only blending but they help break up the outline. I did some posts about this not long ago on Instagram you can check out.
      To more specifically answer your question, coyote may be better for you as lighter colors blend better across the year than a darker green would. However, I haven't lived in the Midwest so if your area stays very green year round then green would work just fine. Also keep in mind that fieldcraft is more important than colors and patterns when it comes to concealment, but I would go with coyote.
      The only other factor would be if you have a group. If everyone else is running green its best to maintain some basic uniformity for a professional look and ID Friend or Foe (IFF).

  • @tgreer8396

    Just curious about your thoughts on side plates? I notice their not on yours, is this due to you being an instructor now? I’ve looked at multiple plate carriers and cumberbund and with that, side plate placement, seems to be on the main differences between a lot of common plate carriers.

    • @Blakewater0326
      @Blakewater0326  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, I don't have side plates and haven't used them much in my career. However, when I do use the I put them to cover my side, not my obliques. Some people seem to think that the point of side plates is to meet the front plate, and though that may happen for smaller folks, its not the point. They exist to protect your flank, hence why they're called "side" plates.
      I have another cummerbund with side plate pockets I can swap onto the carrier. And with the right setup side plates are barely noticeable.

    • @Blakewater0326
      @Blakewater0326  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The cummerbund may be too loose, and then how much weight is on the rear bag compared to the front? Carriers tend to sag backwards due to how the cummerbund attaches to both bags, and if the cummerbund is too loose and the plate bags aren't sized to the proper height that can exacerbate the situation like you're experiencing.

      I swapped back to medium plates a few years ago. Sounds like you and I are about the same build, so like me you can get away with either. The measurement is from the clavicular notch down towards the navel WHILE SEATED. The bottom of the plate should rest 1-3" above the navel in this seated position, and the width guideline is nipple to nipple.
      I ran medium plates for about 6 years, then saw photos and thought I didn't have enough coverage. Went to large plates for the decade, and when comparing photos realized that I hadn't gained much, went back to medium plates to cut just a bit of weight and bulk.
