I didn't really understand the comments at @4:42 onwards. I can see that there's a void underneath the OSB but why would that cause condensation ? There's no cold surface for moist air to condense on if the insulation is doing its job. I can see that there are gaps at the eaves of the roof which will lead to unwanted loss of heat, but those gaps will also give any moist air an easy path to escape. Those gaps should definitely be filled to prevent wasted energy, but I don't see any reason to be concerned about condensation. (Just a lowly DIY'er here, seeking to improve his understanding)
@@chrisf1600 don't really know how to explain other than cold air flowing under the insulation, means that it will meet hot air from the inside of the house. This causes condensation. To stop this the underside of the substrate need to be air tight.

I was told by firestone representative if you give them the plan of the roof to be replaced with rubber. They will actually give you one piece of rubber so there are no joins. Although I can't remember if there is a limit to length or width, I know there shouldn't be on mine but I had already had it done in pieces, by a firm by then. Also they will work out what special accessories are needed to go around corners etc. I would like to redo mine completely
The biggest problem is that they are still putting osb over the pir insulation board with no ventilation. If you put timber over a warm roof it must have a 50mm gap between the board and the insulation. Also vents at both ends to allow air flow.
That would be crazy heavy. And seams are tougher than any other section anyways as they're three or four layers thick all glued together (when done right)
@@mehuksuria373I once worked stripping a 30+ year old EPDM roof which had only failed because there was a sharp timber poking through from underneath, even then it had taken 30 years for the timber to actually wear a hole in it It's definitely a damn sight cheaper than doing it in lead, and less likely to be stolen by gyppos 😂
surely the void at 5.00 is ok, it should be warm like underneath it, insulation on top - though the gap where the old room meets could mess this up of they didnt put PIR in there warm, air would get up there and condense under the top layer

Why they use chipboard instead of strong plywood
Can you elaborate on what you said about there being a space below the firring strips where warm air from the room below would condense?
This is the child of best price tendering
What did you fill the void with to prevent the condense?
Me, nothing. The new joiner had to remove the plaster board and fill it in over wall plate

It's the thermal bridging at both ends. They dod not insulate over the wall plate
Is that EPDM you laid the resitrix?
Fatra single ply mechanicly fixed. I won't use EPDM
@roofingshiteroofing1189 why won't you use epdm?
It's not breathable, it is also bonded to a wooden substrate that's at due point, without ventilation it's pointless
