As a general rule of thumb, saris are woven with 80cm - 1m of blouse fabric at the end opposite the pallu. If you ever need to arrange a sari by yourself again, there's a lady called Tia Bhuva who has an excellent TH-cam channel about all the different styles, and how to do it. Also, if you search for 'choli patterns' you'll get a huge selection of different styles, showing how to measure and cut them to fit. All after the event, of course, but maybe it'll be useful for someone else here!
Thank you for this! I'm in a similar situation...but, in my case, it's my son who is western and his partner who is Indian. I'm also a dressmaker (and enthusiastic gardener!) So watching this series with great interest!
It's shaping up beautifully 😍 The colour is gorgeous, and the gold trim on the sleeves is the icing on the cake! I applaud your patience putting the whole thing on! 😊 You look fabulous 👌
In Kenya, when the saree is not your traditional garb we just sew the bottom as a pleated skirt (in the saree shape) with the hanging end pre pleated (and stitched down)to throw over your shoulder. We gave up on the struggle.
Beautiful!! Well done! My DIL (who is of Indian descent) thinks you might have it over the wrong shoulder as it's different for married and unmarried ladies. I'm sure whoever helps you dress on the day will keep you right 🙂
Well done I would have tried to buy one it's a challenge but yours is lovely When they dog was jumping up at you I had visions of snagging your fabric but you saved it Happy sewing Take care 👗
Oh how lovely. I really like the trim on the sleeve. Congratulations on your determination to get it on. Right or wrong it looks stunning. I love Saree's (sp?) I have always wanted to wear one as they are so lovely.
Green with envy over the sleeve ironing board. I must have one. Your cholee looks very good with the saree. It definitely does not seem like an outfit you want to put on without an extra pair of experienced hands.
My son and his (Indian) partner attended two traditional Indian weddings this summer and stayed with us over the wedding weekends....the time, hilarity and copious pins had to be seen to be believed! My English son, as chief wardrobe assistant, was very stressed by the whole thing. His partner only wears her sari for occasional formal events and this was a family heirloom piece loaned and sent to her from India so stress levels were very high! As an aside, only get your sari cleaned by someone expert in cleaning saris. My son's partner's mum has lost a couple of very precious saris at western cleaners who have claimed expertise. She now sends them back to India for cleaning.
Just beautiful, your patience is commendable 🥂👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you 😊

Yes, I would imagine so! It's actually a miracle that it turned out looking like a saree at all 🤣 It looks a lot easier on the TH-cam videos!

Absolutely! 🤣 I'm a bit nervous about walking in it too! But it must be possible 😁
