I agree, adaptations that take some creative liberties aren't inherently bad, and he gave good examples, Akira and Ghost in the Shell. Just the current people involved in adapting other works are hacks and clearly have no love for it or have superficial understanding of it. Hence why I don't want Adi Shankar to adapt Berserk.
I would argue Lord of the Rings is another example of an adaptation that does take some creative liberties but is all the better for it in it's given adaptation. It all comes down to two things: respect for the source material, and understanding certain limitations and advantages you have when adapting a story to a new medium
I think it helps that the Akira adaptation was written and directed by the manga's original creator. People in Western media seem to have no clue what makes a good story in general right now, let alone understanding of what they're trying to adapt.
This is actually a very good point especially given the Israel conflict where Israel and the US spent millions worth of patriot missiles to prevent a mass IED equipped drone attack that are estimated to cost 40k dollars. Consider also how many Patriot missiles the US can produce compared to how many they are spending in Ukraine and Israel so realistically mass attack tactics with drones to weaken the enemy's defenses before you attack.
@@Alertacobra12 Cost vs Practicality. Tale as old as time, what use does investing in armor or tracking capabilities in missiles if some Joe sHmoe or Ivan can undo all that with a 600$ drone, a grenade and a fucking Ipad

I enjoyed the Q&A. I enjoyed the unfiltered yapping more. I don't think it can be stressed enough of how we are in the middle of the biggest global conflict since at least the end of the cold war. "Yemen is the first place I recommend people go" I don't want to be disrespectful but no thank you?
