@@alexu3 great question! I found this. It says the ac 20through the 70 fit 0.9" I just meansured my ac50 and I would say an inch maybe a 1/16 more. This is on a 29 bow front. I measured my 40 breeder and its 1" rim. so it would just fit that. the thicker rim would fit a 110 that 1.4" wide. In my opinion I would want the 110 on that tank. flow is an issure because its so long. I would side mount it. and use a cut open botte to direct flow across the tank. Dependong on the bio lod of your tank will determine the service inervil time. a bigger filter will go longer. you can hold much more media and turn down flow if its to much. AC110 is the same tray as the old filter. it gets the new pipes and new motor but not the side by side bags. stacked like before. Lots of places have the old filter on sale because of the new one coming out. Maybe score an older 110. Will see if they update the 110 design over time. fluvalaquatics.com/us/faqs/aquaclear
I own 4 of the older models and just the one new AC 50 for that bow front tank. It's been a month since it was installed and the first problem relieved itself! New follow up video this weekend about how it's doing.
Cheers from my fish room channel in Chicago, where I am a subscriber to yours. Fantastic, concise review! I am very pleased with my new Aquaclear 20. On top of everything else you said it also looks sleeker and more modern than earlier model.
Hey there from South West Florida. I do agree it looks much better. They must have gotten a styles 😂 I would add to that I feel the plastic of a better quality and flexes more where the old ones would crack. I dropped one once and cracked it (older model) this is like the unbreakable plastic. Flexes rather than cracks
This was in my recommended feed. I gotta say, very informative video. Nice review. I'm interested to see how everyone's year review turns out. The aquaclears not being self priming is a huge reason I've never bought one and I would go with the seachem tidal over the aquaclear just for that reason. For whatever reason we lose power more often than I would like and I just can't bring myself to take a risk on a filter that does not have the self priming feature. I think the aquaclear is outstanding on everything except for the self priming thing. I do love that they are including an intake sponge now though. I've been doing that for years. Just subscribed
We are all waiting for the perfect filter. The Seachem filters are good too. The built in surface skimmer is a nice touch. Some complain about it but some mods and it's ready to get to work. Like I said in the video as long as the water level is now below the impeller and that there is still water in the filter it will restart and prime.o keep my tanks very full but some like it lower to prevent fish jumping and this is where the Seachem filter is better.
The basket is an improvement, however the AquaClear 70 and Below they changed the sponge to 30 PPI instead of 20 so they are going to clog really fast. People think they need find filtering, just wait longer to clean the sponge cuz those little holes are constantly getting smaller and smaller until no flow goes through
@@carlcrasmussen even with my heavy bio load I'm not clogging the sponge in over a month. It does do a much better job at removing fines than it did before but I do agree if you really wanted that super fine filtration then floss on top would be a better option. Check out the 30 day review video and see how much that sponge caught in 30 days. Like I pointed out in this video the intake guard was an issue and I have since changed it to the much larger sponge pictured in this video. It's been a few months now and it hasn't clogged. I only service the sponge in the filter once a month. A quick rinse in the old water and back in it goes.
@randallschuyler5558 that is one thing I like about this filter is how you can easily modify it to make it how you want. Finer or more coarse sponge, some pack it with filter floss for super fine filtered water. You can definitely see the difference between the two sponges in the video.
I just cleaned my old style 50, but might have to hit up petsmart to get the new model 🤔 I for one like that new 30 ppm blue sponge and that little bridge piece on mine is a pain to clean algae out of. I wonder if the new model is a little easier, pipe cleaners can’t even clean the old one properly. Nice video.
Thank you for the compliment. I've been using it for a few months now and the water does look super clear. It's definitely the blue sponge trapping more fine particles.
That's is a UNS 11 gallon tank. All in one design. I did a complete review on it that might help answer some questions th-cam.com/video/i3-xGxWcCDM/w-d-xo.html
I have cut open plastic bottles and you can see with one that I do exactly that. Send it across the tank rather than down. Go to 9:23 and you can see how I changed it for the pea puffer tank. That tank has duckweed and down flow makes a mess! So I did this. Cheap and easy! I've heard but not seen that someone in Etsy is making 3d printed ones
Putting a check valve in the intake tube would possibly be a failure point and definitely a restriction. In the video I explain about the water level being the issue. As long as the level isn't lower than the pump you will never lose prime. If you like to run the tank with the level low I agree this isn't the right filter and one like the Seachem Tidal is better suited. As it has the pump inside the tank.
I used this brand from a decade already but no issues its good its re start automatically even power outages as long the level of the water of your tank is always high enough
Same here. I personally never had a prime issue as I like my tanks full. When I got lazy and didn't clean the impeller housing that is the only time it didn't restart after a power outage. Every now and then when cleaning the filter I remove the impeller and clean it and the housing. I never had a problem since. I love them as well.
This is much different. This is more my opinion, the C series was an attempt to have a lot of filtration and a dedicated bio media chamber it doesn't use cleanable parts but rather inserts you must buy. Some people have tried to modify them using their own filters but it never worked right after that. Flow issues and bypassing other chambers. The C series does work well with Fluval's filter inserts but lacks the ability to really be modified to your needs and makes you marry them for filter inserts. For me I want the filter to be cleanable and not have to buy anything when I want to service a filter.
They are all related to the size of the filter. Your 70 moves more water than my 50. So it needs a bigger sponge. But I still feel it to fine if a filter. It's really just there to guard the shrimp, fry and fish with fine big fins. I use the aquarium co-op intake sponges. That is the one that I show in the video for comparison.
I use the lids on all of the designs. Weight or like you said a rubber band works well to quite it down. It definitely was a problem with the older design and I still have a few running. I did make another video that really outlines the changes in depth. The new lid is a much better fit. th-cam.com/video/3cIoXty88Ik/w-d-xo.htmlsi=CRM7mDPqs1Jz3BUE
How many of the older Aquaclear filters do you own?
any idea if the AC70 would fit on an Aqueon 60 breeder tank? I know the rim is pretty large like over an inch.

I love these filters. Just bought 2 ac110's for my 125g freshwater tank... Don't really like canisters... They're doing great..

Buy the old style sponges. May have to cut so they'll fit correctly

I wish they make the spillway send the water more horizontally across the top instead of dumping it down in
