Seachem Purigen recharging Instructions:
1. Soak the Purigen in a 1:1 bleach: water solution for 24 hours in a non-metallic container. The bleach burns off organic material that has been captured by the Purigen.
2. Rinse the Purigen and soak it in Prime or dechlorinator solution for 8 hours.
3. Rinse the Purigen and soak it in water for an additional 24 hours.
4. For freshwater use, soak the Purigen for 4 hours with a solution containing 2 tablespoons of buffer per cup of water.

📘 Get Crystal Clear Water! Now in eBook and Paperback!
bit.ly/clearH2O
I notice you are not showing the new tank to us anymore cause the water hasn't been "crystal clear" since you set it up months ago. Too stubborn to admit you need UV, so you'll have this bacterial bloom going forever.
BTW bacterial blooms pretty much always kill rays FYI.
Obviously you didn't watch the video because the new tank is in the video. 🙄 Also obvious you havent seen my other "Crystal Clear" tanks that have never used or needed a UV in 9 years! Also Obvious that you couldn't wait to post your hateful, thirsty for attention, ignorant comment! (Pretty sure I referenced you directly in the video)
Usually you'd get blocked with no response, but I will allow you to keep watching me so you can learn something when the tank becomes crystal clear just like my others without ever using a UV.
Then you'll get blocked! 😊
@@KaveManAquatics I did watch the video, you didn't have it front and center, and yes I did notice how very cloudy it still is, hence the response. You never had a tank this large in 9 years, and you don't seem to be able to be successful thus far at clearing up now are you ? Months dude MONTHS !
Why isn't it working ? I don't even see progress..
@@KaveManAquatics I thought you liked constructive criticism.... 18 months later, oh look my tanks finally clear.... sad. You could have it cleared up in 4 days with UV at around 100 bucks.
A smart guy like you should know that when you find dead rays in a tank, spiking ammonia, and crashing a very immature tanks cycle, a bacterial bloom would start over! But maybe you're not a smart guy 🤔...Trust me, you wont have to wait 18 months...Your BLOCK is just around the corner. Enjoy hating on me and my success while I continue to allow you to 🤣🤣
I learned a lot from this channel and I still come back watching videos from time to time. Keep up the awesome work Kev, screw all the haters out there.

Your channel is awesome! I always learn a ton from your videos!! I have a 75 gallon tank with an eight inch Oscar at the moment. He's still growing of course. I had him in a 44 high for a while and he grew like overnight. I don't have Africans (and that is only because they are so expensive) but I wish I did, they are gorgeous fish. However my red tiger Oscar is a good fish and everything you have mentioned in your videos, I apply to him since as you know Oscars are very high maintenance and you help me with this every time!!
Thank you so much! Keep these videos coming my brother!! I have subscribed!! 👍👍🐠
Very good stuff again! I will only add that activated carbon is not easy to use. First, most of them release large amounts of phosphorus into the water, with some types of aquarium it is killer. One Polish scientist tested dozens of aquarium activated carbons, he is on TH-cam, the conclusions are shocking as to the quality of this product, even well-known brands, I recommend it to those looking for more pro info on keeping this product in the aquarium. Purigen great product .. only its regeneration with bleach very laborious and time consuming to get rid of the bleach. Again, another Polish scientist shows on TH-cam another method of regeneration, completely safe and fast, again I recommend it. The last product that I missed here is a phosphorus remover, the basis in Targanyika and Malawi (to keep nice algae in the aquarium) Regards :)
Dope video bro. Do you buy the purigen pre packaged or the loose granuals?
Thanks bro! I've done both! Loose is good cause you get more for the price and can control how much you use. Best for big tanks, 200G+. But pre-packaged is easier to handle and implement if you're under 200G😊💪
@@andrewbent9204 you sound dumb as hell and miserable
Kev,
I use purigen and ammonia remover in my 90 gal CA cichlid tank only. My other 2 tanks are planted my 55 gal and my 20 gal long I only use the tidal filters and the pads and biological filtration only. Because chemical filtration like carbon isn’t good for planted tanks. Because it takes the plant fertilizer when you dose the tank and it takes the stuff out of the water that the plants use to live and grow. Appreciate the video bro.
why are you using ammonia remover on an established tank?
I’ve just started putting seachem phosguard in my fx6 with amazing results cleaned up my sub straight in a few weeks
Nice! 😁💪
My crushed coral sub went all green now back to white in a few weeks of use and noticeably less brown algae on glass as well
Not a lot of videos on it so probably worth a review
You're absolutely right!
I just recently got a tank for turtles and have been watching a bunch of your videos about tank maintenance. A bunch of them mention these different types of media in filters but don’t explain what they are or what they do (although this video did give some good info about chemical media). Maybe you have a video and I couldn’t find it but as a noob, a video going into detail about the 3 different types of media, and what each do in the filter would be fantastic. Great stuff so far though 👍🏻
I kind of go through each media and what they do in this video - th-cam.com/video/NHigz6EMR08/w-d-xo.html Hope it helps!
@@KaveManAquatics Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks! Perfect video 👍
Keep the content coming love the cichlid tank
Thanks bro! 😊
Enjoying your videos! You are great! Question - I have a new 400 liter tank with a large piece of wood (old and used in a tank before), but the water is greenish and has dust particles in making the water not crystal clear and with greenish yellowish tinge. What do you suggest for clear water? Using carbon? If so where in my filter do I place the bag of carbon? Look forward to heisting from you. thanks so much for all your tutorials!
Do you add something to your tank to fight brown algae? i like your background but if I make the same wall it will be brown in one week .
Brown algae are Diatoms. Very common and normal to have in a new setup. They'll go away on their own as your tank matures.
Kev, can you make a new video about tank sizes and heaters?
yes, yes I have (been researching media 😄)
Let’s goooo I stayed up just to catch this as you posted haha good content as always brother
Glad you did my bro! Glad you enjoyed it too! 😊
Bought a big pack of Seachem Safe but haven't used it more than once... I let the water sit in the drum to gas off the chlorine/chloramine with a pump running in the drum. Has worked for me but now I feel like I should start using Safe so that it's not a total waste of money. ✌️
Either way would work well. While the water sitting in a drum does gas off the chlorine, it doesnt remove other dissolved organics in the water. Safe does. And Prime will remove heavy metals from the water 😊

@@KaveManAquatics Ok cool I'll check it out man!
I have a 10 gallon tank in which I use two sponge filters. Should I add bio media, and if so, how?
Your videos are very informative. I would also like to ask you something. I am making a new installation in a 200 liter tank and I am using sera nitrivec. I will add fish later to ensure the cycle settles. Should I put purigen into my filter during this process? Will it make the nitrive ineffective?
Purigen will not stop or slow down your cycle process. Congrats on your new setup! 😁💪

So can I put the bags in the reactor?
Hey bro. How would you set up a fluval 306? I already use matrix and purigen in a HOB filter. Thanks in advance!
Just the info I needed. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
I do have a question for you kev, recently I learned that activated carbon removes essential nutrients from the water that I need, hence why I completely stopped using it all together but something else lingered in my mind:
What else removes essential micro and macro nutrients from the water that are essential for plants?
I use an FX6 just like you and I use Seachem bottles to fertilize the water and soil for my plants. Recently I added the Quick-Clear polishing pads (the white fluffy one) and the Max-Clean filter pads (the thin, blue colored pads). They both say they remove micro particles but does this mean nutrients as well?
I don’t know what to do, if they are removing crucial nutrients from my plants than I have to remove them but I have to be sure.
Aloha Kev, what brand of silicone do you recommend for aquarium use? Mahalo!
Ive never really used any silicone before, unless it was for installing a background.
Is it safe to rinse activated carbon with tap water which contains chlorine? I have been using distilled water to rinse mine before adding it to my filter.
Yes it is, the chlorine has no effect on the carbons effectiveness.
Im trying to figure out whats best to run in my 2 gallon pico mixed reef. Its packed full of corals and uses a hob. Im thinking purigen
Hey Kevin my blood parrot cichlid is flashing but it’s definitely not ich. I was wondering if you might have a few ideas of what it might be and suggestions on how to fix it. I really dont want to do a mercy kill on him. He has a white pearly substance and his gills but only his gills and all the other fish are fine

Hi there any reason as to why the Purigen pre made bag has made my aquarium cloudy I rinsed it out under tap water last night checked out today and it was more cloudy then it was without it
Possible it needed a bit more rinsing 😁
@ I’ve rinsed it out more and also added some polywool after it if it doesn’t sort my clarity what would you suggest ?
Purigen is the shiz and I recharge it and use it over and over . Just buy enough to cycle in while you recharge the used stuff. My overstocked tank of yellow labs is constantly at 10 or less nitrates without a sweat. My tank is so clear the fish look like they are floating in the air
I have to buy all of the above. Funny how fast I forget to pick up more and run out.

How the heck do you get a Purigen bag (or any extra chemical filter) in a HOB Aqueon Quiet Flo?
If you've got a small filter that doesnt have enough space for media...upgrade your filter 😊
Which do I use for my FX6? Starting a new Aquarium?
Chemical media is optional. You dont need to use anyone. But if you really wanted to help get your water as clear as possible in the shortest amount of time, go with Seachem Purigen! 💪
@@KaveManAquatics okay purigen in all 3 trays?
@@KaveManAquatics So do Purigen, Matrix and chemi pure blue?
Hi. Can we use the carbon used for filtering drinking water? Amazon sells 24 bags of drinking filter carbon very cheap. Are they the same carbon that can be used for aquarium? Everything selling for aquarium are too expensive.
I've never used it so cant tell you for a fact, but yea, It should be the same carbon.
Can purigen be used when cycling?
I wouldn’t use any chemical media while cycling as it could remove/reduce dissolved organics which can indirectly reduce inorganic’s like ammonia and nitrite, slowing down your cycle.
I have a hob filter and sponge filter running but I want a new Hob aquaclear if switch will I still have good bacteria on sponge filter to adjust to new Hob?
You'll have some on sponge filter yes, but most will be in the old HOB. I suggest using all the media from old HOB inside your new HOB and you'll be good to go 😊💪
Yay thanks! 😁

Do any of these remove minerals live plants need, especially trace elements? I use Chemipure Green because it claims to not remove minerals that plants need.
That is an excellent question! Theoretically, yes carbon will absorb some of the minerals and nutrients plants need, but not all. In order to remove them all you would need to be using RO water. Using carbon wont produce same results as RO. But if you wanted to use Carbon for a few days, even up to a week, in order to remove meds, odors, or just to quickly clear up your tank, your plants will still be just fine 😊 (I wouldn't use it on a consistent basis though)
BOOM!!! get it son
Lets Gooo!!

I have not! But Aquavitro is Seachems sister company so I'm sure it works just as good if not better. 😊

Does purigen remove medication?
Yes it does. If you’re dosing Meds, remove all and any kinds of chemical media.
Can you use chemical media with a sponge filter ?
Not really. It needs water to pass through it to be effective.

Can you use purigen on a 29 gallon tank?
Absolutely!
Does charcoal eat the fertilizer out of your water?
No it doesnt, If you mean carbon it absorbs dissolved organics and medications.
Purigen is not chemical…it’s mechanical. It’s a resin that absorbs organic waste.
yes its a resin that absorbs organic waste. Thats exactly why its chemical media.
