And towards the end of the video rental era, people -where I lived- started writing abusive comments on the covers of bad movies, which I think only succeeded in getting the movie more views.
The rental stores in my city would exchange your movie or even game if you were to come back a few hours later. With my buddy we would often go rent a movie, watch it then go back and say it sucked and get a second one for free. 👍
When I moved out at 18 in 1984 and got my own place it was party up every night through the 80's. I had a few friends who worked at video stores so we had movies 24/7. Man what a fun time, being part of that revolution of home entertainment and seeing any and every horror and sci fi and t&a comedy and porn. Out of the 1000's of movies we watched over the years, I dont ever remember paying rental fees.

The scene with Hawkeye punching the reporter who is following him seems like it was taken straight from The Deadpool (1988) where Clint Eastwood beats up the two guys he thinks are following him, but it turns out they're his bodyguards.
I dont think this one is actually that bad. I found it more funny than bad, like, the "bad" things just made me laugh more than be frustrated with it. Also, i feel the two main characters have good chemistry in their scenes together.

Chuck Jeffreys was Eddie Murphy's stunt double in Beverly Hills Cop (what a twist!), and he did stunt coordination for movies like Blade and The Art Of War (yep, he worked with Wesley Snipes too!). His best onscreen role was in the Gary Daniels movie, Bloodmoon, where he plays a cop with a karate background who moonlights as a magician. If you watch Pootie Tang, he's one of the drug dealers that Pootie Tang fights with his belt. Oh, and his nickname in the industry? "Eddie Snipes", as in he looks and talks like Eddie Murphy, and fights like Wesley Snipes 😁
His partner obviously was a rip off of the Axle Foley Character from Beverly Hills Cop, dude is dressed like him and mimicking how Eddie Murphy talks as well..., probably makes this bad movie better though

I got some inside information on this movie. George Chung (Hawkeye) was an actual Sensei in the art of Tae Kwon Do. He had a school in Los Gatos, Ca. where he trained and taught for many years. Apparently he doesn't teach anymore. The Majority of the film is shot in San Jose, Ca. in 1988 I think. The scene when Hawkeye is talking to the guy before his 'test' is a guy by the name of Sunny Skies who is a practitioner of Aikido. Also, the bank robber wielding the shotgun is indeed 9 time pro bowler and 4 time super bowl champ and former 49er and Raider Ronnie Lott. RL was George Chung's student at one point and was asked to play the role of a bank robber a role in which he accepted, obviously. The one good thing about this movie is the fighting.
