- HOW CAN THESE STORES WASTE SO MUCH?? How do these stores stay in business??? Because they know they are going to throw food away - it is baked into their business model. The paying consumer who buys food will cover the losses, which area also tax deductible by the store.

You can read their thoughts and feelings on Reddit-like Kroger has an active subreddit and they have talked about all the food waste-especially the deli and different people chime in on how they try to save it
A lot of stores probaby would but it's terrible how the stores are controlled by government rules and health and saftey act laws created by the Health and Wealth ministers etc. etc. that deem things to be not safe that are. Of course if something is not then it is not. So they are not allowed to. However a lot of stores started to at least putting out reduced food when that wasn't even allowed defying that it was ridiculous to waste, and it got accepted. And why did it? Who knows because a bruised apple just might kill someone but they are letting is slide........so exasperating. And yes it must be horrifying for staff to throw out food that is perfectly fine just aweful.

There's foodborne illnesses that you can't smell in meats/poultry/fish....how can they judge when they're just cooking up what comes from the store without questioning it...ridiculous to judge dumpster meat just because it's in the dumpster. Also, you can check online for brandname meats to check if there's any recall notices. The meat is cold or frozen so not much chance of it being spoilt and like you said...your body will let you know if it's off (smell, look, texture when handling).

I worked for a butcher years ago, the beef on that dive would have been ground up for burger and put back out if it passed the sniff test. Nothing disgusting about it. Great job FD, braving the elements to rescue all that bounty.

Non perishables I’m ok with, but I’d be so scared to eat things like meat or pizza or milk products because I couldn’t be sure how long it had been out of refrigeration. Just me. I’m happy they are ok with it.

I lol'd a little bit at the "wow...$25 dollars for that ham". Where I live, you can't get a ham, the size of your fist, for $25. 🤣

Fantastic finds today. With it being so cold outside, it's like an outdoor fridge. With the prices of meat 🥩 now, I was smart and bought a freezer order from a butcher. Everything here has gone up in price, even over the counter medications have gone way up in price, if you can find any medications like cold medicine. There is a huge shortage right now. I wish we could dumpster dive, but you can't where I live. Have a great day my friends ❤️🙂⚘️.
WtgFD!!!!!! It all looks great. With those high prices at Save A Lot its no wonder I never buy any. Yes, there's nothing like spoiled meat smell lol. I knew a guy who didn't put his Thanksgiving turkey in the fridge. Well, a couple of days later he and a friend of his decided to eat it. They offered some to the cat and the cat wouldn't eat it. Those dummies still ate some anyway. Long story short...another guy took them to the hospital later(while he kept his head out the window because of the smell of uncontrolled poo) where both guys were in the hospital 3 days. Moral if the story....If the cat won't eat it neither should you! FD, you did great. Stay warm!!!!!

Common sense with meat health ,this is is why we are blessed with with our senses.though I realise people do have have severe reactions to certain stuff. For the sake of a few absolute key reasons why diving is dis done,,where first assessment is done,you have have demonstrated time and time again the hauls look fine and your purse is heavier for it hallelujah 🙌
Well to some people it is disgusting. A lot of people are doing it now plus going to a food pantry. I say to each its own. Things are very very expensive now and people are trying to survive.

Here in Ireland & UK we have a tier system where the excess food at the end of the day goes: 1. to staff, 2. to charity, 3. Olio, 4. Homeless, they try to distribute as much as possible. Well done FD, you did GOOD.....
