    I have just discovered your channel. Thank you. I really appreciate your generosity..sharing techniques for getting the results we are trying to get with color pencils. Your instructions are clearly explained and demonstrated. I am just a hobbyist but have been trying to do landscapes with colored pencils. I think your
    suggestions will especially help in drawing grasses in our midwestern prairies. I look forward to tuning in regularly. Barbara

    So the base layer should cover the entire area, with no paper left uncovered, correct? Not just making 'strokes' or fur marks with it. That would explain why a slice tool might not work well. Beautifully explained!

    • @TERESAJOYFINEART
      @TERESAJOYFINEART  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's correct Michelle, I don't add the base layer in strokes (as I would the later layers). I make sure that I have a good, solid coverage, especially in areas where I know I might use the Slice tool/craft knife. I may not use it as heavily in areas that I will want to be more wispy areas or areas with not much coverage. 🙂

    Thank you so much, what an excellent tutorial! Wish there had been videos like this 40 years ago! I went to art school, but self taught for all the finer points in watercolor, pencil, pastel etc. So, you prefer the Polychromos as your base layer. What is your other preferred brand for additional layering and color? I see Luminance or Pablo as options...eeeeek. :)

    • @TERESAJOYFINEART
      @TERESAJOYFINEART  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much for your comment. I agree, It would have been so useful to watch art videos when I was younger too! If I had to choose my top two brands of pencils it would have to be Luminance and Polychromos. They work really well together on my favourite paper which is Fabriano Artistico hot press paper. I do love the Pablo pencils too but don't use them quite as much on the Artistico. :)

    I have polychromos and luminance. When doing the base layer which would be best or does it make no difference, one being oil and the other more wax ? I might be over thinking 🤔

    • @TERESAJOYFINEART
      @TERESAJOYFINEART  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Polychromos and Luminance will layer nicely over each other so you could start with either. If I know that I will be using the Slice tool or a craft knife in that area I tend to favour the Polychromos but the Luminance will also work as a base layer as long as you have a good coverage.

    This was really helpful, thank you. What about the really bright white areas where there really isn't any grey? Do you have a base layer of white and leave it at that? Thanks

    • @TERESAJOYFINEART
      @TERESAJOYFINEART  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. If there is a really white area, I would probably leave most of it as raw paper and add accent colours into it to create texture and structure. Even the brightest of areas which look white include accent colours. :)

    Please tell me how you made the whiskers in the nose/snout area? As I’m sure you already know, they’re magnificent. Please, a short description on how you achieved it?

    • @TERESAJOYFINEART
      @TERESAJOYFINEART  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used an embossing tool to make an 'indent' into the paper before adding the layers of pencil where I want the whiskers to be. The pencil will then 'skip' over the 'indent' and leave the whiskers showing through. Here is a video showing how it's done: th-cam.com/video/tyvQuT7GpvE/w-d-xo.html Happy drawing! :)

    Hi Teresa I love your work! Is there a right/wrong side to this paper?

    • @TERESAJOYFINEART
      @TERESAJOYFINEART  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Viv! You can use both sides of the paper. They do have slightly different textures. I like the side with the watermark showing the correct way on the sheets or the side that is on top in the pads. Some people prefer the other side though so it is pure preference. Hope this helps!
