Lunatic Fringe and that classic opening guitar riffs. It’s been heard on Miami Vice” that hip and always stylish cop drama from the 80’s.

I mean, the West had an ascendant neo-Nazi movement in the 70's, and they were reacting to that. We just... didn't eradicate all the neo-Nazi ideas back then.

While teaching at a New Hampshire camp when this was made, while driving up to Quebec City (in a mistaken belief that French Canadian girls would swoon over us) Lunatic Fringe and Radar Love were the songs on continuous loop. Driving music indeed.

    Another band to consider is
"The Kings". Their hit party song..."This Beat Goes On / Switchin' To Glide". Yeah, they joined two songs together, so great for getting the party started.

It's a sad event, but Tom Cochrane's performance starts at about 5:53 , wasn't a dry eye in the house.

Another song from Tom Cochrane - "Big League" a song about a young hockey player killed in a motor vehicle and later released song as a charity single for a real life accident - On April 6, 2018, sixteen people were killed and thirteen were injured when a northbound coach bus struck a westbound semi-trailer truck that blew through a stop sign near Armley, Saskatchewan, Canada. The driver of the semi-truck had failed to yield at a flashing stop sign at the intersection of Highways 35 and 335. The semi-trailer was travelling at a speed of approximately 100 km/h (62 mph). Most of the deceased and injured were players from the Humboldt Broncos, a junior ice hockey team from Humboldt, Saskatchewan, which plays in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL).

So many great lyrics in this song, all pointed at the Lunatic Fringe "You're in hiding
And you hold your meetings" (KKK), "But I'm on guard this time
Against your final solution" (Nazism). But the one that hits me most and I know had to be influenced by John Lennon's death which happened while he was writing and recording this - "We can hear the footsteps
out along the walkway" which makes reference to Lennon being murdered on the walkway to his apartment. I get goosebumps every time I hear that line. Just a fantastic song with a great message that we will not let hate rule....Add Harem Scarem's "Change The World" as another Canadian band with a fantastic song that has a message of love not hate.

At the 3:02 mark of your video , if you turn the volume way up and listen carefully , you can hear Tom Cochrane say “See you on the other side John”. Nick made a face as if he heard “something” , but wasn’t sure what it was. It refers to John Lennon’s passing 6 months prior to this album being released. John was shot on Dec 8 , 1980 , this album came out in June , 1981.

Oh guys, there are so many great Canadian bands and singer/songwriters. This is not a definitive list but quite representative of artists up to about 1995. I grew up listening to most of these. You know the biggies like Rush, The Guess Who and Neil Young, and you've heard a bit of the underrated rock trio Triumph and April Wine (Roller and so much more), but also check out Bachman Turner Overdrive (Guess Who guitarist Randy Bachman's kickass rock group - you've likely heard of their monster 1974 hit Takin' Care of Business), Gordon Lightfoot (Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, If You Could Read My Mind, Sundown, Carefree Highway etc.), The Tragically Hip (Little Bones, Three Pistols, New Orleans is Sinking, Blow at High Dough, Ahead By a Century, Fifty Mission Cap - enjoy the rabbit hole), The Band (originally the backing band for Ronnie Hawkins then Bob Dylan - The Weight, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, Cripple Creek etc.), the now little known Klaatu (one of my favourites, rumoured in the late 1970s to be The Beatles reformed - do the full studio versions of Calling Occupants, Sub Rosa Subway, True Life Hero and Anus of Uranus off their debut album 3:47 EST), Saga (from my humble little hometown of Oakville, Ontario - On the Loose and Wind Him Up), The Kings (also from my hometown of Oakville - their super catchy party hit This Beat Goes On/Switchin' To Glide), Five Man Electrical Band (social commentary mega hit Signs), Bryan Adams (anything off the Reckless or Cuts Like a Knife albums), Blue Rodeo, Loverboy and the criminally virtually unknown - outside of Canada - Max Webster (Kim Mitchell's original band - the super high energy and quirky lyrics of High Class In Borrowed Shoes plus Hangover, Let Go The Line, A Million Vacations, Oh War!, Gravity and On the Road.) I know this is a lot but you asked for Canadian band/song suggestions. Keep up the great work. I'm always looking to see if you guys are reacting to 1960s, '70s and '80s rock songs.

Your so right,..when this came out,..and they performed on shows,..and you see him playing that guitar I had only ever, seen country bands play,..think the first time I saw that guitar was on Hee Haw(ok now you youngsters won't know what show that is,.but let me tell you, the musicians on there, some of the best in any genre, or part of the music business,..they more than anyone, turned me onto country, and along with the banjo performance in movie Deliverance, turned me onto Bluegrass),
Ohh and yeah, this is some in the car going on a mission music,..like Sam and Dean in the car driving down some highway on their way to do battle with some demon,..or even better a mad car chase with Steve McQueen in that badass Mustang chasing some bad guys down!,..heard this so many times blasting from somebody's car back then,..I actually remember it blasting from a convertible,..do keep going they're not from Canada, but check out Rosington Collins,."Don't Misunderstand Me, Prime Time",..very, very good,..Godspeed, Peace ✌

Greetings from Canada eh?- I really enjoy it when you guys discover some of our hidden gems. Not a Canadian band - If you guys want to check out Larkin Poe for some really awesome sisters playing some sweet bluesy pedal steel guitar - I believe they are from Georgia

Some other Canadian rock bands are
Saga....their song On the loose was huge.
    Honeymoon suite...song..New girl now!
Glass Tiger!!! !!!!Their first album(thin red line) was fire! Also did a song with singer Brian Adams! I also have seen this band live
They played front for Journey, in 1987....they were really great!
    Canadian metal band "Killer Dwarfs"
Their Catchy and upbeat songs.. Keep that spirit alive and We stand alone are fun and accompanied with a comedic video. Then there are the kings of Canadian bands RUSH!!! I'm think ya probably already know them!😀
