- 80% of MBAs want to become entrepreneurs, but is the MBA actually going to help them or are MBA entrepreneurship classes just treading water until they get out there and do it?
It’s a question we get asked a lot, so Angela Guido is here to weigh the pros and cons of MBAs for entrepreneurs, talk about different kinds of entrepreneurship and try to explain just why so many MBAs head the call of the entrepreneurial road. She will also cause her editor to google how to spell “highfalutin.”

A little later than usual as the editor's hard drive got corrupted 😬
This channel helps with so much as I continue with my degree, thank you for providing such great information!
How bout someone who went into “small e” entrepreneurship (ie in business for oneself…) doing it and learning as you go…but then realized that they want to pivot and go to an MBA program to learn to do it “right” and also primarily with the goal of going back to work within an organization again after 12 years as a small business entrepreneur?
The MBA can definitely help you bridge that gap - I think the real question is how to package your experience in your MBA application (which should contain a compelling idea of how the MBA can help you - it's a bit cyclical!). I think we're going to see more and more "small e" entrepreneurs like you in business school classes in the coming years - for instance, our past clients keep telling us they're classmates with TH-camrs!
Great video, very thorough and insightful. I'm already an entrepreneur twice over, looking to refine my skills.
Loving your set !
content here is gold , love it
Very informative and helpful thanks!
thankyou Angela, you help me understand what I need to do now
Another great, practical video
Thank You For This Video 🎉
Learnt useful tips. Thanks for the video. Being an idea person, it provided support for what i was looking for.
Thanks
Would you be able to make a video for those with individual contributor profiles? ie. sales, customer success etc.
These are not great post-MBA jobs, though because the whole idea of MBA is that you are going to become a manager not an individual contributor. If you just want that job, you don't need an MBA.
@@CareerProtocol Of course, and I completely agree! I’m more so referring to those that have this background prior to an MBA but are wanting to pursue an MBA for a career change.
I havent read about or seen many examples of this where someone with an ic background moved into traditional post mba roles.
@@muhammedhashmi7188 That replies to 80-90% of all MBA applicants!!! So basically, all our videos. Nearly ALL MBA applicants are still individual contributors when they get to school - PE associates, I-bankers, Consultants, techies, etc etc are all still primarily or exclusively individual contributors when they apply. Few people get substantial management experience pre-MBA!!
Can one self study for an MBA?
Hi! You can learn a lot of the educative/ class content of an MBA with books, if that's what you mean. You won't get a certificate for that (or what kind of place would give you one?) and arguably what an MBA "is" is more based in networking, career opportunities, peer learning etc. which self study won't provide. A lot cheaper though!
Is a top 50 MBA program worth it?
It always depends on you: what you need from the program, what your expectations are, and how the school fulfills on those two things.
