Thanks for sharing the struggle 🙏🏼 Our channel has faced very similar challenges in the last year. Totally agree about the travel channels aimed at inducing FOMO in others. Your Amdo video is a great example of travel being a part of a deeper purpose, ie. documenting ways of life that are disappearing and what we can learn from them/do to support them. Having lived in Shanghai, I can think of some ways of life that are quickly disappearing, maybe they could be a part of your channel. All the best on the pivot! - Kevin

Love your thoughtful conversations. I also wonder how can I physically contribute positively to this world instead of constantly thinking of ways to aid. I just quit my 18 year career in search of doing something more meaningful for myself & others. Unfortunately, I have these philosophical back & forward convos in my head on the pros & cons of my choices. I have to just DO; take action ASAP & let life guide me from there.

absolutely! I think we need to evaluate our actions, but not let our evaluations paralyze our ability to act. Best to luck to you in the next steps of your career!

Would be super interested in hearing about your ethics research in the non profit space!

Well, I may make a video about it in the future but basically - especially in the school i went to (Cambridge) - my final feeling was that the space needed to be entirely overhauled. Accountability was all over the place because nobody could agree to metrics because for the most part, the ACTUAL barely hidden metric was "prestige for the donors/volunteers." This meant that a lot of shady, barely helpful and VERY paternalistic/condescending charities would end up being created and financed - how it read for potential networking was more important than if the help was actually needed. People who were at the top of the NGO field needed to be people who were retired from blue chip careers - in fact, our mentors basically told us "to work at a high level in NFP, you should absolutely climb up the corporate ladder first." Ostensibly to gain experience to bring to the charity field, but when asked how much of say, their Barclays experience played into being a board member at the National Arborial Trust, they hemmed and hawed before admitting it was... networking.
I guess I shouldn't have been too surprised - this is the country that came up with Live Aid after all, the most celebrated of disastrously vain attempts to "do good."
