The RTD: Longmont Burst Transfer

Burst transfers are a popular way to increase connection opportunities in areas with sparse transit services. Within the RTD, these transfers are at Downtown Boulder Station at :07 and :37 minutes past the hou, and at the 8th & Coffman Park-n-Ride in Longmont at :00 and :30 minutes past the hour on weekdays. Longmont is fabled for its burst transfer, with up to 8 buses leaving the terminal within a two-minute window at the station.
I visited Longmont and this facility for the first time since filming the Season 2 episode "Longmont" in order to hopefully capture the final 3900 series buses before they were retired, unfortunately, my visit in mid-October 2023 proved too late. Additionally, a slew of delays and cancellations had made several of the bursts I witnessed over an hour period significantly less busy than scheduled.

Effective May 26th, 2024:
The burst transfer will no longer occur at 8th & Coffman Park-n-Ride, it has temporarily been moved to the intersection of Bross Street and 8th Avenue due to construction for CO-119 BRT (and other transit improvement projects). Service is anticipated to return to Coffman Street in 2026-2027, however, the burst may be moved to 1st & Main.
