Effective May 26th, 2024: The burst transfer will no longer occur at 8th & Coffman Park-n-Ride, it has temporarily been moved to the intersection of Bross Street and 8th Avenue due to construction for CO-119 BRT (and other transit improvement projects). Service is anticipated to return to Coffman Street in 2026-2027, however, the burst may be moved to 1st & Main.

3:25 Proterra bus

It's been used before. However, the idea of having a regular service between Nine Mile and Union Station was dismissed internally pretty early, in favor of having better headways. I wrote the timetables for the opening of the SE lines and it was tricky enough to get everything through I-25 & Broadway without leading to a Portland Steel Bridge scheduling problem. Keep in mind that the W-Line was going to be in the picture, too. Our experience with the travel market also suggested that the Aurora SE area had an affinity for jobs in the center and south end of Downtown Denver (especially state and federal jobs). And, for access to the airport and its massive employment, the R-Line would overlap the outer end of a J-Line. The finishing touch was when the mayors of Denver and Aurora agreed that the SE branch to Aurora should go to the central loop rather than the Union Station. They actually had nothing to do with it, but instead of an argument they got cheerful agreement. In regard to the travel market, we also knew that the high-income suburbs along I-25 that almost reach Colorado Springs suburbs had an interest in riding transit to the major league sports facilities in the Central Platte Valley. Thus, the core of the timetable became the D, E, and H-Lines. (See th-cam.com/video/Kf4HYSWZc3w/w-d-xo.htmlsi=GMs89NemC-RgSmLV .) Nevertheless, there were some potential needs for a J-Line. Because so many new travel combinations were being created in a relatively short number of years, what if we had overlooked something, especially before the R-Line was completed? There was a time lag in preparing digital signs and voice messages, And, in an emergency or for a special event, all the electronic announcements and signage would have been misleading at the least. We have drivers on buses who could announce a detour. On rail transit in detours, operators sometimes miss making one of the many announcements. And lastly, we had experience with two huge special events in 1993 and sports event sell-out crowds for which Operations might need to run a train on the crowd break. For example, there is a yard at Peoria Station. If an extra train on a crowd takeaway needs to end up there, it would make more sense to run it as a J-Line to Florida than as an E-Line to Southmoor Station. Of course, we knew that there would be some curiosity about it, just like the SF Muni's Rte 4 trolley coach rollsigns when I lived there, or Portland Traction Company 82nd Avenue Line transfers issued years after that company was no more. Is this the first time they used the J Line and announcements, or were they used before? Also, what color is the J Line?

People often ask why detour trains to Union Station don't use C or J-Line sign codes and announcements. The reason is that on buses and trains, the run number includes the trips pre-assigned (pretty typical), so unless the trains left the division with a different run number than usual, they would just have the regular announcement codes. This means the only way to see C or J-Line sign codes are for event trains, or if the detour was all day and thus RTD will (probably) adjust the runs to include accurate announcements. Since Colfax is usually only a few hours long, it's easier not to do anything and make operators announce.

Nice video! What date was this filmed? Because ever since the mask mandate was removed on April or May 19th, RTD buses removed the “Please exit through the rear door unless the ramp is needed.” Announcement.

Nice Video! I like the light rail vehicle used (I believe it was the Siemens S70 or S700). The fact that there is no stairs anywhere in the train car (unlike the Siemens SD-100 and SD-160). Makes it a perfect train for accessibility purposes. The Two-Tone Sound and the voice are perfect. Makes me wish we had that in Denver for our trains. In Denver, announcements of the current station and next Station are only played when you enter the station. However, it looks like it plays the next station when the train leaves the current station. Pretty cool. Hopefully more light rail lines will open in Charlotte. Also, for the Busses, I like that it says “Now Approaching: _______.” Impressive technology! And it also lists the special buildings around the stop. Cool!
