Thanks for watching!
just wanna say that this is my first go at stone work, i know its not perfect but i will get better the more i do it. The best way to learn and get better at something is to fail your way and getting stuck in.
Looks good dude
Respect from Philly
It's well done. I done stonework in ireland, years ago. Was my 1st time as well, ended up building an extension in stone.
Wolf im a 25yr plasterer in the states and ive worked with a buncha irish boys
Mostly Tyrone & Belfast
Where u from?
@@averageguy7641 i'm german, but i stayed in cork city for about a year. Liked it, but winters are too wet.
dress you’re corners and plumb then
I just read this is your first go at stonework. Holy smokes....Your very talented my man. Keep the videos coming. Would love to see more stonework.
I could sit and watch your work all day! Superb mate ✌
Laying stone is a whole other ball game my friend. What I lack in bricklaying I make up with my stone laying since that's what my crew specializes in. I do enjoy watching your brick work and do enjoy thoroughly watching you work your trowel with brick. 💪 I do hope you get on stone work more often! Like I said, it's a whole other ball game. You should get on it!
Great thing about stonework is everyone has a different style and while there’s preferences there’s not necessarily right or wrong. Looks great
Truth Seth I suppose it’s the same for anything we do eh.
Great work. More of this stonework please👍
Nice job marra,.laid a few yards of that stone putting fireplaces in, brought back memories.
You just gave me an idea in making a planter for my garden as well. Thanks for the inspirations Stu. It would be nice if you can make a simple planter without too much brick cutting.
I work labor for a stone mason, and that is close to being on par with his, which is phenominal! Keep it up
That style of stonework is very appealing to my eye. Here in the States, that kind of semi-random bond was everywhere in mid-20th century suburbia. Sidewalls, planters, light posts, chimneys etc. There was a Tennessee stone that was especially popular.(I wish I had a picture.)
Excellent project... Thanks Man.
Thank you ,Stu .
Looking good Stu , would look great in anyone's garden , kind to nature and recycling too !♡♡
Great video again Stu , it’s given me a idea for my front garden, as my front wall is made out off that stone 👍👍👍
This is a great new chapter, Stu. What’s more, I have no doubt you’ll succeed in this too as you have a great attitude - don’t change it! 👌👍
Great first effort Stu! Looks good fun that 👍🏼👍🏼
Might be interesting to have a copper pan made that fits into the space where the water sits. I think it'd look nice, especially after the copper turns green with age.
really good Stu! What I would suggest is putting a drain pipe in, bird baths get dirty quickly and must be washed, a small drain and plug would be perfect!
will do that on the next one mark cheers
Looks cracking Stu! So many people don’t turn their hand to new things due to the fear of failure but if you never try you never learn! Keep it up 👍👍👍
Exactly mate and with not having a go you start to resent those that do
@@Stucrompton1 yep
Please do more stone work. Great job
Great job! Your work and attention to details is very inspiring. I enjoy also the music selection, it makes your videos even more enjoyable. Thank you!
thanks tuta
Great effort that looks great.
Would make a great fire pit, nice corner stone seating area.
More stone work plz stu 👍
Another fantastic video stu.really nice bird bath.well done pal 😁👍🏻
cheers jamwes trying some stone for a change
Ur very welcome stu anytime mate 😁👍
Another awesome video mate and for your first time doing it aswell very well done keep it up stu big fan mate
Lovely job 👍 really nice Stu 👍
That’s ART!!
awesome build!
Tip for the stone work try not to stack to much of the same length and width. It's a bit tricky when you're building something so small because you haven't got much scope to chop and change the coursing. Usually with this type of stone you build it in block gauge courses then jump over the line to break the coursing up with a big stone.
yeah i think i struggled because it was a small project, at least i give my brain a workout.
@@Stucrompton1 doing small stuff like this is a pain with coursed stone and definitely a head scratcher. You don't really get a chance to get into what you're building and get a style for what you're building. everything I've built that's small out of of coursed stone has always been a bit of a pain rubble stone is a lot more suitable for smaller work.
i cut all this stone from york flags, did my best but hope to get stuck in to more projects soon
Lovely video and it’s given me that relaxed feeling!👍👍👍
You're so good with your hands .
Great video stu more videos like this plz
Really nice mate!
awesome video
Nice work !!
Nice stone work Stu, great different subject, looks a bit fiddly to do but worth the hard work.
Have you seen the videos where people carve the aircrete blocks to make garden ornaments? I think it’s something you would be able to put your own spin on.👍
defo mark, up for anthing artistic
Awesome.
I’ve done a fair bit of stonework and what you’ve done is decent mate 👍
its hard work but i think i can get use to it, ston looks so cool
@@Stucrompton1 Hi Stu, I'm from the Yorkshire Pennines so have used stone a lot more than brick, though of course we use concrete block. It was a good effort and fine with sawn stones with straight harris (edges).
In my area when we wall with either random or dressed stone (say punch-faced squared stone) for a natural look we'll always try to avoid sawn faces or sawn harrises, by knocking off the whole face, nicking up the harris with light hammer taps, rounding off sharp corners, etc. We hardly ever wall in sawn stone now - nobody likes it and it's easily confused with cheap-looking laminated stone products like Bradstone. I use a Pennine walling hammer all the time, not a nicker or pitching chisel much unless breaking up large stones.
Brick and blockwork are definitely sciences - all about consistency (and this is true for sawn stone and Bradstone too); with natural stone you're getting into an art. A very competent brickie isn't necessarily a good stonemason, who needs an eye for local styles and natural beauty. Not saying someone can't be great at both and in fact I can see you've got an eye for beauty so should be a good stoneworker. All the best with your new ventures!
cheers jon yeah i can see how difficult i could be theres still so much i dont know about both parts of the mason but i enjoy to try new things and make bits or art and videos :)
@@Stucrompton1 I find brickwork harder because I've done a lot of stone walling and flagging (brickies work in mm, in stone walling I think in half inches). For a basically competent person with a work ethic and sense of quality, it boils down to practice and experience - plus a scientific vs artistic approach. Treating stone like brick makes stonework look fussy, treating brick like stone makes brickwork look an imprecise mess. The other thing is all the different mortar mixes we use in stonework - build with building sand, point with a different mix, then there's the lime heritage mortars etc.; and of course dry walling. Loads for you to go at! I don't suppose there's much stone in your part of Lancs.
And btw Stu you're a great bricklayer.
Not far off 100k follows now pal 👍
gettin there mate
I tell you what stu.. fair play to you keeping that mind busy so you dont think about negative thoughts. As I too am in massive money troubles. Again fair play and guess what.... your nearing the 100k subs mate. Nearly time for a pat ont the back. I'm sure KC/ DAD is very proud of you mate. Been following for years and here's to many to come yeah....
cheers Richard mate, we keep going pal doing all we can
Stu eres un maestro 👍👍👍you are awesome😄😉
Good imagination right there quality at its best keep it up laddy 😉💯
Class that mate 👍
Stonie from Devon . Nice job. Try and lay the grain face down. .stops frost getting in ..popping off face. Try to avoid dressing face if possible. A lot better than my 1st go . My brick work is shocking 😅
cheers ellie
@@Stucrompton1 hi stu.another tip..avoid any online nonsense as above.all mortared stone is/was dressed .all stone should be laid with its grain horizontaly.sorry to get anal but theres not many stonemasons left.were gonna end up like the stonework in america lol
Beautiful
Nice job but birds drink from baths not just bathe. Should check your silicone is fish tank safe. If so should be ok for birds. I had cracks in an old concrete bird bath and used quick setting cement to refill and shape the bowl. Not leaked in 2 years.
Great effort stu, would be great to see more stonework videos from you, I’m a stonemason myself 👍 Bryan
Cheers Bryan I will keep practicing
Hey stu, do you do much of this?
You have a broad range of skills that will never see you out of food and water 👍🏻
would like to do more stuff like this
It's very much like my front wall, well the front of my house too but the loose front wall is the issue 🤣
Great job 👍🏻
Cool
Now how you get it out of the garage to use
in my company we build similar walls, but without mortar, makes it way harder
Good efforts
Очень круто 👍👍
*No Way Stu, thanks for this video man ...it's exactly what I wanted to build ....for my CAT !* 😊 👍👍👍
Theroputic after a few beers watching this 👍🏻👌🏻
Would it be possible if you could sell something like this in kit form for diy brick layers that want a project? Delivery might be the only issue but if you can get it on a pallet then shouldn’t be a problem. Great video, you’ve got me thinking about where in my garden I could fit this 😁
good idea mark i maybe i could do that soon
Nice job. I'd use sharp sand to build with and NHL lime. 4:1 mix. But just my preference. All the best
cheers alex i will do a lime mix if i do a project outside but its ok to practice on this mix
Looks alright that stu 👍😁
I think I'd prefer joints rather than butted up with joints underneath but it's still really nice 👍.
My dad taught me how to build a stone wall but with mortar set back inside the stone so it looks like a dry stone wall. Give it a go if you like joints butted up 👍
Grande maestro!!!
Hi there this on top concrete what im looking
Backyard ..need dig ground any ideas how to
Hey Stu, lovely job on the bridge bath. Is there anything you cant do, bricklayer and! Stonemason 😂
Load I can’t do lol I like stone tho
@@Stucrompton1 it looks awesome you are a very skilled man. I wish more people took as much pride as you do in their work.
Stu you should try wire brush finish on stone just brush the aris of the stone looks really nice when it’s done
Cheers mate yeah I was just playing about. I have som me more stone so will do something else 👍
stu crompton hope you all good in this time mate I’m stuffed my site is shut and can’t get help of the government till June I’m really scared I have a family and baby on the way
stu crompton try 3 sharpe 2 soft sand 1 lime one dust if you could send picks I’ll show you what I done but this is a learning curve for you and me it’s all a dying skill now it’s about getting them up as quick as possible which is a shame I know a mention it some time’s but that rob songer is probably one of the many few that can do this work now which I think should get passed down it’s a art in itself 👍
Make a nice fire pit that would.
that looks great buddy! bet you really enjoyed doing that... just a thought as im sure you will take that apart after youve done the video.. could you not find somewhere to build that so it can remain, some local worthy cause, perhaps a Hospice center or similar, seems such a shame to build it temporarily?
Yes I would do that after some practice 👍👍
leaving the gaps in the wall without mortar or the hollow inner parts without mortar does that not allow for for moisture to seep in freeze and expand it? just curious cause i was building something similar and was afraid to not fill in the gaps, thanks your vids have been really great help learning
Im building a garage/shed in my garden i have at the moment 20 ft by 10 ft sectional panels ontop of a 6 inch base.im wanting it around 12ft wide and 28ft long so ill dig out a foundation then just ad to the existing base once built but wat is the best way to build.bricks or blocks.single or double skin or rendered ?
How do you find they footprint lump hammers for using stu ?
Love it mate
Perfect a use the 4 1/2 inch footprint bolster there the business. Think al get these hammers. Have used most other brands lol. Using a Vaughan hammer at the moment.
🔥🔥🔥
Hi mate where did you get your chariot from???????
The sealant u used is it animal safe? Grate vid
I didn’t check that as this is a demo but if I did one again I would definitely use a safe one or avoid it with a different design
You best)))))))!!!!!!'!!!!!!!!!!
Love it stu how long did it take you to build?
Well I never like to say smidge because I’m building, filming and charging batteries so it takes longer
When you do these videos os it sand and lime ?
Is it *
👏👏👏
You r doing v good
I like ur working
Nice job Stu. Shame it's not outside for the birds to use.
yeah i couldnt because of the rain but hopefully i can do one in a garden soon
@@Stucrompton1 weathers been rubbish lately. I'm grateful most of my work is indoors. 😀
Should try and get a customer paid job for one of these 👍🏽
maybe from the video, you never know
Should of built it in your back garden stu
ill just lift it up with a bear hug and drop it there ha
stu crompton yes mate ideal hahahaaa
I like most of your work. Try not to make boxes on the stone work.
Супер!а что за смесь для укладки?из чего состоит?)
How about a stone bee hive?
That mayBEE difficult
Don't use cement with stone also check the bedding plane of the stone, building on cant (face bedding) is a big no no
What do you mean in layman's terms please
@@shaun...6838 you don't want the natural bed of the stone to be used as a face, it will de-laminate in time
I understand now thanks
Never stack 3 chips on top
Of each other stu great fucking job
Заиста лепо и разиграни.
Хвала, другар
Stu mate, if you are willing to travel i have the next stonework job for you to hone your skills on (I've not measured it yet) one wall is at least 10 metres.
There is other work here for you too if interested.
Trouble is Wigan is about 2 1/2 hrs away from me (Durham).
If interested let me know the best way to contact you to discuss 👍🏻.
Kind regards
Tom.
Ah cheers Thomas just may be a bit far utilise I can get my camper van
@@Stucrompton1 I have heard that the premier inn accepts paying guests 😉 and I'm sure i could cover the cost.
Enjoy your weekend mate 👍🏻
Bom diaaaaa stu pensei que tinha parado com os vídeos.
I'd have had corners going the same way pal would look 10x better. Also hold your pitch tool the opposite way. Good for a 1st attempt though..
yeah i noticed the difference when you turn it one way it takes a bit of and the other it takes more off, what do you mean about the corners?
@@Stucrompton1 so the 1st corners run the same way the seconds ones the opposite and so on.
Young blood. You need more imagination than that son . No disrespect intended pal.
None taken, it’s only my fist stone project with the stone I had, plenty more to come soon
Строитель высокой квалификации Я без ума от вашей работы
просто тренировка, спасибо за просмот

Mi dispiace ms Cromton,ma la pietra la faccio meglio io😁😁😁😁
Did I see it leaking water, 🤔🤭😋, silicon with stone not a good water vessel
That mix you use look the dog b###. How much lime do you use? 🙄👍
It’s was 💩
I would of fired you for doing the work three times lol
Just being funny
