I love Anderson’s voice also, it’s like you said he has that natural soulful, gritty, raspy, funky tone. His tone and texture is so different from Bruno, but their voices work so well together.
Anderson's vibe reminds me of Curtis Mayfield.
This is really an album that you should listen to from beginning to end without Skipping any songs

"Put On A Smile", with Bootsy's intro, reminds me of my hometown's band, The Dramatics, who dropped "In The Rain" 50 years ago, around this time. I watched them performing it on Soul Train back then. Bruno, on this album, reminds me of how Smokey Robinson used to sing back then.
Adele has a great voice/great vibe, but during this pandemic I needed Bruno & Anderson's multi-faceted gifts of Real music, voice, instruments, smooth & comedy by way of a Retro ode to the groups from the 70s to make me smile, dance & laugh. Being Retro with a new project is Pure Genius!!! It's so good, so accurate that the Old Heads are praising it because they got every aspect Right! It's R& B but it's not only a R & B category. People from all over the world Love this album!❤

In my opinion, put on a smile is song of the year and it isn't close. No song this year has come close with the level of vocals produced by Bruno and paak
It’s the only song that brought me to tears on my first listen. Never happened with any other song ever.
I’d say it’s record of the year, song of the year might go to leave the door open this Grammy’s. But hopefully in 2023 Grammy’s it will pick up both song and record of the year🙂🤟🏾

Lets be real, it took me less than 10 seconds into track 1 to know that everything I was hoping for for this album was about to come true. This will NOT disappoint. And that old skool bass riff in Fly As Me...Ohhhh weee!! Oh my days. I've just reached Put on A Smile. They have written a whole epic story in this one track. This album might be the definition of All Killer No Filler.

This whole album brings me back to Dramatics, Jackson 5, Bobby Womack and Donny Hathaway albums...just beautiful old soul and R&B! This has to be the collaboration

Somebody bottled up and preserved Anderson Paak from Motown. It’s the rasp for me. They are both such powerhouse perfection. This collab is literally heaven sent. This album is a hug.

Ahmen. The last album I bought on day 1 was Bad by Michael Jackson and I gave it away that same week. Yes I thought and still think it was awful. No fear of that with Silk Sonic.
Songs from the 70’s only had 8-10 songs. Albums with 15+ have a bunch of mediocre songs that are skips. There are no skips on this albums. They included the best songs they had! Quality over quantity!

Anderson .Paak is an excellent rapper! You should check out his Tiny Desk on PBS performance of his material. It’s not acoustic but it is stripped back. His drumming is so good!

Yer so right, this SHOULD be AOTY. Every damn tune is better than anything else. Hell, every damn part of every damn tune is better than anything. The only way to pick a fave outta this perfectly paced sequence of perfectly crafted segments is to say "This one" no matter which one is playing at the time. This album has it all, from sweet soul smooth to filthy fat funk, often at the same time!
Man I hope this ain't a one n done deal for these guys. Can you imagine their second album? Third? Seventh? But really, this album is already more than we could've ever hoped for, so......
After Last Night is the hidden gem of the album! The song reminds me of Snoop Dogg’s scene from the movie Babyboy where he is chillin on the couch to Bootsy’s I’d rather be with you!
This album took me back to the grooves of Ohio Players, Kool and the Gang, The Stylistics, The Temptations and EWF.

The first time that I listened to After Last Night, I found myself humming in certain parts of the song and I couldn't really put my finger on it until later. It took me back to a group by the name of The Average White Band and a song they recorded in the mid seventies called "A Love Of Your Own......
I loved that song then and still listen to it in 2021...
If you like the grittiness, real soul, and funky sounds of this album then you will LOVE Anderson .Paak’s music. Especially his album “Malibu”. It is a MASTERPIECE of funk, soul, and rap. You’re only getting a sliver of that on this album. Still very good though.
Anderson is gonna mess around an help to inspire a new genre of music kinda like James Brown did (maybe to a smaller degree than JB) mark my words

I'm hearing The Isley Brothers on Blast Off, especially when the guitar solo drops. I did hear a chord progression that was pure EW&F. Can't fault the pedigree of Silk Sonic. This track is fire. Not sure if this album is way too short or if they are right to leave the audience wanting more.
Sometimes less is more! Better 9 meticulous songs than 12-14 almost, possibly fire songs. Knowing when enough is enough is what separates the greats from the legends!

Great insights on this video. You pointed out a few things that I hadn't picked up on before. It's great how you single out some of the vocals and replay them, and sing a bit - it really highlights some of the interesting lines. I'm waiting to see about the mass appeal though. I'm 100% with you that the 70's vibe and the references to classic funk and soul combined with the modern is great, but there are people criticizing it for not being original enough. I really hope people give it a full listen and really dig into it because this album is deep.
