I love this song, even though I simply don't agree with the political stance taken in the video for being anti-death penalty.
The original term "penitentiary" means a place for you to ask for forgiveness for your sins against god; it states nothing about freedom in life, only that you will not be punished in death...all prisoners were kept in solitary confinement in nearly pitch dark stone cells and went completely insane.
Jail, unfortunately, is not meant to rehabilitate anyone. It's meant to erase all trace of their existence.
