- I want you to look at this graph.. It details the amount of smartphones sold in the United States alone, and within, I want you to notice that there are two key players, Apple and Samsung. You can go as far back as a decade to notice they've pretty much dominated the market, so much so that its made competitors like LG or HTC fully exit the business, and new players to struggle.
Now I wish I could give you the specifics of which of their phones sells most, but neither company discloses this data. Some say it’s the Pro Max for the iPhone, others that it’s the more-affordable Galaxy A Series for Samsung. I know, two completely different extremes that don't really compete against each other. It would be easy to assume that this is because Apple sells more expensive phones, but that's actually not accurate. Samsung has more variants at higher price tags than Apple does, and no worries, that'll be a story for another video. For now, let's try to level the playing field. Each company has a base model that they consider is worthy of their flagship name without any Pros, Pluses or Ultras next to it, and that it addresses what their chosen target is looking for.
On one corner we have the iPhone 16, Apple's latest base model, which by the way is probably one of the most evolved in years. On the other we have the Galaxy S24, truly a phone that's very close to an update, but which remains pretty worthy for this comparison in ways I'll explain soon.
I'm Jaime Rivera, and yes, welcome to my channel. Let's see who wins between iPhone 16 and Galaxy S24.
As a person who just switched to iOS from android "3 months now" I curse at least once a day on how dumb iOS is. There are extra steps to everything! simple tasks on android take years on iOS? eg. there is no consistent "back button" its either at the top far left (WHY!?) or you have to swip up and go home not back! The control center cant access your settings app... like what?? face ID doesn't automatically unlock to home screen! you still have to swipe and tap and drag argh. then there is iPad os ...... OMG kill me now!
you can swipe to the right from the left....FaceID doesnt automatically unlock so you can still view your lock screen without automatically unlocking and take you to the home screen. for the control centre issue, either make a shortcut for it or use spotlight search. you're just used to android. should've stayed there. i have no issues with any of my apple devices. and contrary to you, i find android complicated and inconsistent. but hey, you do you.
this is the dumbest argument against IOS. Seems like personal preference, why don’t you go back to Android?
skill issue
I feel the same. Typing and using calculator are painful on iOS. So Android is my daily driver! :D
How about go back to the system that works for you.
No matter how good and superior the Galaxy is, he will always downplay it and say he prefers the iPhone

You guys live in a bubble my bro. You ever heard of the vivo x200 pro mini?
@KevinTooReal I may have. But that device doesn't exist and is not available for sale where I am in the EU & UK.
The only reason 60hz refresh rate is standard is because Apple keeps it alive in the base iPhones.
Well the industry keeps it a standard in so many ways, it's not just Apple.
@JaimeRiveraTech i mean, imagine if the standard iphone 17 got 120hz standard in 2025, I'm pretty sure 60hz is going to be below average at that point.
@@JaimeRiveraTech What industry? Even $200 budget phones come with 120Hz these days so in what way is 60Hz standard? Once Apple changes base iphone to 120Hz you'll then say is was long overdue for the change.
Disagree, For the price of the iphone 16 120hz Should! Be the standard. And I don't buy the "its a pro feature" thing. No, no its not amymore. They need to differentiate thier pro in a different way. The industry is using AI features as their selling points and apple is lacking behind that. Apple is just being Apple. US numbers are weird and not to be taken seriously. Teens are clowning on their friends who buy actually superior phones with intuitive operating system, navigations and functions, while those clowning are the ones with sheep mentality.
I don’t agree with your sheep comment. Android had enough trash phones when it launched for people in the US to develop a stigma against it. It’s the problem with associating your brand with mediocre products. In other countries where price is more of a sensitive topic, people had no choice. Android has a long way unless they cut the excuses of poor implementation and insecurity.
@@JaimeRiveraTech What does that mean "Android had enough trash phones"? Android isn't a company, just an OS. Phones using Android come from a gazillion companies, and their quality is all over the place, spanning fromvery bad to very good.

@@xaverlustig3581 Bro you triggered him when you said the truth😂, sheep mentally offended
Android phones being superior is subjective and I don’t understand why android uses find it weird that another country prefers another product, why is it that you android users? Can’t understand that not everybody wants an android phone just worry about your phone that you’re using and not what everyone else is using and in the UK it’s a similar story obviously not quite as big a gap as it is in the US but so what? Just enjoy your phone and not worry about anything else, bro.
Question. when you say "A lot of the features go way beyond what we got on Galaxy Ai" can you give examples? I have a 16 pro max and an s24 ultra and the Ai functionality isn't even close.
There are a few, but as I mentioned, not all are here yet. Apple’s Private Cloud Compute is one, where if you have to use the cloud, there is a private alternative. On the Galaxy it’s optional to not use it, but there’s no privacy promised. Math Notes is insane. Obviously Siri is still not ready, but to have it be a hybrid or phone control and external access is so much better than Gemini, since Galaxy AI has none of that.
@JaimeRiveraTech
Thanks for clarifying. I'm excited to see what Apple has in store for the future, but I suspect like everything else it will come down to individual use cases. The math notes are amazing, but I use circle to search and real time translation literally everyday. But hey, the competition will mean more cool features for everyone so I'm all for it!
@@michaelpicurro933 Exactly. I LOVE Circle to Search. It’s probably the coolest implementation of IA that I’ve seen, but then I don’t like that it’s all focused on purchasing things. I want information, not just where to buy it.
@@JaimeRiveraTech Apple is not offering anything better than what's out there already, in terms of AI. Try to be neutral when making tech comparisons, be honest with your reviews. Except you want to focus on a particular OS, then that's fine

First video! And it’s a masterpiece!

camera wise, i feel other than pixel peeping, most people can't tell. I've seen terrible photos from great phones with people who can't use them and amazing photos despite the hw and it always humbles me to remember, it's not the brand that makes you a good photographer. Apple to me, since i'm not doing videography on the daily like an influencer, I feel that Android is way more intuitive than iOS. it usually gets out of my way when i want to do certain things whereas Apple only now, allows you even customize something a bit and their biggest draw for this year is AI and the fake camera button that some people will accidentally activate when holding the phone but as Apple tells their sheep, thou haveth holdeth it wrong. haha.
I dislike Apple in general but I'm fine with Apple users as i have to use it for work too. I hate the fanboys though -- really blind faith levels for a corporation. I understood now how jonestown could strive back then. Same vibe.
Good points overall. I do think Chinese phones are doing far better photography in the Android space, though
i mean, iOS gives you more control over the post-processing of pictures with RAW, and adobe lightroom and pixelmator (both of which work with the RAW photo, making it better than android's lack of RAW) but, you do you i guess.
@@reduchimaki Most of 'flagship' android devices right now (even Chinese Phones) can shoot RAW and LOG videos. RAW images has been introduced since the S21 Ultra series.
tho i do think the whole point of smartphones is to make bad photos at the hands of bad hands be good.
which makes the overpriced smartphones ehem trash why? read further
I mean who would even bother learning all those complicated stuff ? why learn ISO ? why learn aperture? shutterspeed? composition ? grid whatever rule ?
the normal and casual user needs a one touch gives out good photo right off the bat.
which both apple and samsung failed at horrendously
my 2018 redmi note 8 takes better photos than apple (ip13) and samsung (s23+). ( again on the perspective of casual fast one click )
overprice but low quality processing made both apple and samsung trash in the casual camera usage.

cant help but notice that stutter in those two trees in the background at 8:05. everything else in this video feels true but selfie video is seemingly better visually and stability wise imo in the samsung, if i had to judge from this one shot
Rendering a video over a generator can lead to artifacts on the second render so don’t let that be your judge
I know everyone is complaining about RAM in the new iPhone. Did we forget that iPhones have been achieving a lot more in terms of RAM management over Androids with 2 GB of RAM when they had 6 GB back in the day. Apple and IOS is the most optimized system there is.
Dude iphone use less ram cause it doesn't sideload
@ too bad the Pixels don’t work that way either. Optimization is key and IOS does it best .
Right and even so Apple doubled the RAM for Apple Intelligence
That's the thing they conveniently choose to ignore. Android often have to compete by going bigger on numbers. Whether its RAM, Battery, Camera Megapixels or resolution. Let the android has the same ram, battery size, camera megapixels and resolution as the iPhone and see how well it performs. Pound for pound the iPhone will knock that Samsung out the park.
Too bad now that Apple intelligence is not available fully on older devices because guess what, they don't have enough RAM. Large RAM amounts are better for future proofing, especially with so many years of software Support.
On the RAM part, android is ART 2.1 runtime, so all apps compile to native code(except web apps), so memory and storage requirements difference between iOS and android is miniscule, maybe 1-2% in iOS's favor.
Not a big fan of apple, but I do have a massive respect for their camera system

All I want is 1 really good rear camera, I don’t care about the other cameras phones come with
Imagine the Galaxy Camera but with a sensor from today
That's not physically possible unless they add actual variable optical zoom, at which point the camera bump would be so big that you may as well just take a camera.
@@rdmz135 doesn't Sony Xperia One IV or one of their model had only one camera sensor that can actually change the size ( not sure about the name ) and zoom out/in? Reviewers said the pics taken while detailed, it lagged behind in HDR, exposure and colors. But still, it can be done with a reasonable camera bump.
@@phucanh0374 no, it does not have a sensor that can change size. however, it does have a camera connected to a zoom lens, which allows for zooming. it does take kinda bad pictures, but thats likely due to some sony processing issue imo. if a phone manufacturer could add a camera with a zoom lens while still having accurate colors, it would easily dominate the long focal range for smartphone cameras
@rdmz135 lol of course it is possible. He never said anything about having 1 sensor doing everything, just have 1 camera
I use the s24+ and the 15 pro max, both are good in their own ways but I always find myself prefering the s24+ cos there's a ton of things you can do on that phone without any form of restrictions. It's great to see you prefer iPhone 16 over Samsung due to superior camera processing & i agree too if i had it compared between Samsung S24, but in my case display is very important to me, neither of them is having higher PWM dimming, meaning both of them will harm eyes when used in low light conditions, hence i will pick Xiaomi 15 Pro, which surpasses both Samsung S24 & iPhone 16 in Photography while being slightly behind in videography against iPhone 16 _(but i am not a content creator)_ , HyperOS 2 is already much ahead then Oneui while being slightly ahead then iOS in lockscreens and multitasking, we all know Android is far ahead then iOS while iOS in king in it's ecosystem.

Having said that there are some goods as well, solid iterative design , great resale value, longer third party support (cases and accesories), better service availability etc. Basically iphones are good if you want to stop caring about the tech race and just want to settle with a device that lasts as long as you want. I do think it's a great phone, but yeah, it's tough to defend it in this day and age. It doesn't bother me, but it clearly does a ton of the rest of us nerds.
I absolutely love my S23 Ultra, especially the pen but even my S9+ was fast and had a good Camrea. Chip spects shouldn't be a deciding factor anymore because they are both fast phones.
Oh yeah, that S Pen makes the Ultra for me as well.
Kingdom is wherever the King is.. all the best for this new channels future..
Appreciate you! Thanks for being here
Cheers to new beginnings, Jaime!
Thank you for being here!
honestly I would consider 120hz the minimum for phones nowadays, its sad to see its not available in the base model of the phone 16
Don’t disagree with you, but I seriously wish the market would care as much about it
best of luck for your new channel. i hope you will do pocketnow daily type videos here aswell. probably 3 time a week news update
Already working on a first episode, but it’ll be different though
Wait.. you admit that the S24 is smaller, thinner and lighter - but then out of left field gave all the points to Apple *for having more colour options*????
Ok - I think we can toss objectivity out the window here.
The problem with any "which is best" article is that "best" is almost entirely subjective and unless it's well defined *before* starting, it's really just an opinion.
You answered your own question at the end 😉. All reviews are subjective. I said “my points go to” because I like colors. You don’t have to agree 🤷🏻♂️
I’d honestly say that a 60Hz panel is a dealbreaker for people right out of the gates. Budget-midrange phones like the CMF phone and others come with 120Hz, and it’s just a bad look on paper first of all to have a 60Hz display on the flagship phone.
In practise, I notice a difference, but don’t care too much, but I may bring that factor in when buying my next phone
I think another big dealbreaker hardware wise is the lack of a telephoto lens on the iPhone. Yeah, 2x crop is perfectly great, but there are many occasions where I need to zoom in, and the photos just look garb when I do. Hot take, I would honestly trade the main lens for a 0.5 lens of the same quality with good software anti fisheye, paired with a 2x/3x telephoto.
I wish more people saw it the way you do. Sadly most people don’t care, and this is why it continues to be a feature
Once it becomes standard, the only defining differences between a flagship Android phone and a flagship iPhone will be niche features, like the S pen, and personal preference in OS.
I still can’t think of a single AI feature on these phones that I use or even remotely care about.
Yeah exactly. We’re still too early in the game
S23 selling for ₹37,000
Iphone 15 selling for ₹50,000
In Diwali offer so no s24 and iphone 16 won't have similar price at all s24 is gonna cost almost half of that of iPhone 16 in 1 year
Yeah I don’t understand the price differences in India
I love clash on religion, between Ios and Android
🤣🤣 seriously
the 60hz screen on iphones is a true bummer but Apple hide it quite well with their smooth and soft animations...
I do think they do a good job at it, but do hope it changes soon
I tried the galaxy s24 ultra and it was amazing. But because I’m deep into the apple ecosystem and enjoy it, it didn’t last. However, Samsung has done an amazing job with their S-series devices this year and I’m excited to see what they do with the S25 series
I do love the S24 Ultra. There's so much of it I depend on like the S Pen. My problem with it is that at its price, it's not the best camera on a phone. That said in the US you don't have much choice. Obviously I'm exposed to a ton of the other brands abroad, so my thought process is broader. That Leica tuning from Xiaomi is just incredible. I wish the S24 had that level of character.
In one take you said you prefer accurate to brightness, and then go back on that and say the iphone front video is visually appealing (which i must point out, is brighter)...
Visually appealing doesn’t = brightness 😉. There are far more elements to it, starting with the execution of the dynamic range and the larger codec.
Well I'm so glad you're here and not gone
Thanks so much for being here!
"Seeing a 1-year-old Samsung device still being overkill is crazy!"
I’m hoping they make it overkill again next year. Remember those days when we debated why so much RAM?
Why I am getting this feeling that Apple will still stick to 60hz in next year's base model just to make the big boys pro series more lucrative.
I do think that's a purpose. They give you just a bit of enough, but if you want more, you have to pay for it.
I'd love to see you do this with the iPhone 16 vs the Vivo X200 the Average Dad store has it for a great price
Haha the X200 pro just arrived in my doorstep 😉
Loving that Jaime Rivera has his own channel! This man's voice and demeanor were made for vlogging and podcasting. Topicality is on-point!
Thanks, appreciate you! Appreciate that you’re here.
Freaking fantastic to hear Jaime again, great video too
Thanks so much!
Not sure why Jaime is getting biased comments. He’s been pretty critical of Apple shortcomings over the years. Wasn’t he an Android user. Idk, I could be wrong.
Dude. All good. I just let them talk. I’ve given comparison to Galaxies for years. Samsung made a poor choice in keeping this base at 8 gigs of RAM during the AI boom. Up to them if they wanna buy it 🤷🏻♂️🤣
I always had 2 phones, iOS and Android. From 13 Pro Apple became my main phone but still using Android daily. I always liked the basic S series. Compact, light, flagship performance, decent camera. The only downside being the battery. If you plan to use the phone for 2 years get the basic S. If you want a longer term phone and you don’t mind the 60hz display, get the iPhone.
However at similar money you can get the last year pro, a better device, a flagship. That’s it.
I use two phones as well. I do disagree on getting the base Galaxy S for 2 years, mainly because of those 8 gigs of RAM. These new AI models are getting pretty powerful and useful, and the Plus variant is just better prepared for it. The fact that AI got Apple to double the RAM on its iPhone is enough of a statement.
That’s true but not everyone it’s using AI on daily basis and if they use, most of the time it’s cloud based not local. I bought S22 for my mom 2 years ago on good discount. She just want a good camera, decent updates and a fast phone. She use Copilot to find food recipes. 😁 I’m sure you are right with AI models but not anyone wants this, for most of the people it’s still a curiosity.
S24 it’s pretty much the same phone with incremental improvements, i think it’s a good flagship for the people that don’t want a flagship.
No lie I listened to pocket now for 10 years straight and I can’t now without you so I’ll follow you anywhere 😂
Thanks so much for being here!
I can’t decide between the two, I live in a region where the galaxy s24 has the exynos chipset, which performs worse than the chipset in the iPhone 13-14 which had the A15 bionic…
Yeah it’s a tough one. If you upgrade your phone every one to two years you’ll be fine. If you plan to keep it for longer, I’d go for the iPhone.
@ yeah, but almost all my friends are android users and want me to buy the s24. Some of my friends are iOS users so I’m gonna keep my 13
