Hi friends! I hope you enjoy this video. This stitch is a popular one and can be worked in many ways but my favorite is in the round. In this video I share solutions to 2 common issues that you'll encounter with this stitch that will improve the look dramatically. Let me know if you have used this stitch before! xx
@@minhchu9980 if she doesn’t elaborate, it’s very similar to a temperature blanket . Instead of recording daily temperatures, your do a row or round to reflect the mood you’re feeling for that day (or however you decide to log in for the year. ) I’m doing something similar called a mood blanket. I made a mental health blanket with this stitch last year, and I fastened off and joined new yarn at the end of every round, even if I was going to the same color next, just to avoid a seam. I was buried in ends after, but I accepted my fate hahaha. but I've been wanting to make a continuous round for a blanket with this stitch, and this is just the video I needed to help me feel confident about it!
I've been crocheting off and on for 42 years. I'm amazed at the new stuff I find that I didn't know I needed, and this tutorial is just what I needed! Your explanation and visual guidance helped me learn not only this pattern, but how turning after each round for square projects keep it truly square! I first learned to make a granny square at age 12 and it was the only thing I did for a very long time. When I became disabled in 2008 I taught myself to knit, but always came back to crochet. Since then I've learned way more than I ever knew existed! Thank you for putting together a great video! I can't wait to learn something new! 🧶
I made a moss stitch sweater over the summer, and I wish I'd known these tips back then. My square skewed and I wound up using it diagonally which made the whole construction so much more complicated. A simple t-shirt turned into a 3-month project. This video is a keeper!!❤
I had fallen in love with the moss stitch for dishcloths a few months ago, rows of it back and forth. This is a wonderful twist on that and it was wonderful to work up--thank you. Then I had the idea to not turn at the end of each round and just went round and round and it also looks great for a dishcloth! Thanks for the inspiration!

I just want you to know how helpful all of your tutorials have been for me! You are thorough, concise, and have really clear visuals for someone who is new to crochet (oddly I think I've picked it up quickly). To second many other comments, I have watched numerous moss stitch tutorials and could not understand the placement into the ch 1 space or why it kept going wonky. I also love the HDC join! This makes such a LOVELY corner. Thank you for enriching us with your tips and tricks!

Hi I'm new to your videos and I am so grateful to have found them. I decided to restart crocheting after many years of not making anything. I am so excited to see all of the neat things that can be created using crochet. My biggest question is there a video that I can watch that would help me restart, that you have filmed? I love your explanations, your voice, the way that you go over the process more than once and you are easy to follow. Anyway, I would love to know an easy pattern to use so I can create my first blanket/afghan. I picked out a kit from a company on FB, and I am thinking that it might be a little to advanced. Also, how to I pick out yarn that is quality yarn and how do I find it? I'm sorry for the questions, I am truly excited to start learning and making. If you are able to answer my questions or if anyone would be willing to do so, I would be extremely grateful. In the meantime, I will be benge watching your videos. I really like the look of the square crochet. I hope it turns into a blanket. Sorry to sound like a need, just super excited. Thank you for your videos, all my love amy.
What a lovely message, thank you , and I’m so glad you are finding use out of the channel. 😀💕I would recommend that you look through my “playlists” to see if there’s a section of videos that would appeal to you. It means a lot to me that I get to be a part of your return to crocheting 😀👏🏻👏🏻💕
Thank you. That visible seam in the traditional approach to crocheting this square is annoying. Hiding the 1/2 double crochet, slip stitch in the corner, in my opinion, is priceless.
Amazing tutorial! Just wondering something, I want to create a granny square blanket but I'm not sure which hook size to use. What size of crochet hooks do you usually use?
It depends on the yarn you decide to use. Look on the label and it will give you a recommendation for what works well with that yarn. I usually work with yarn that requires a 4-5 mm hook. Both are pretty common for granny squares . Hope that helps 💕
Any tips on joining the squares together? I'm trying a join as you go and I just cannot figure out the corners. I always end up with 1 extra or 1 less stitch than I need.
I haven’t done a video on this yet but I did a quick search for you. Have you watched this one yet? Maybe it will give you some ideas. th-cam.com/video/eLvpu1l_H_8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=gfHVCypyHa4z43mX
I think I asked you this before, but can’t find it now - what is the brand name of the stitch marker you are using here? it looks like it stays in place without having to fiddle as much as you do with the locking type.
Hi, im having issues with some cupping but only in the center of my square, im not sure why its happening or if it can simply be blocked out and its not something i need to worry about.
It sounds like it would help to add some extra chains on the center to help Loosen it up. I’d suggest adding an extra chain in the corners (do 3 instead of 2 for example) and see if it helps with the cupping. If you don’t want to pull it apart and start over, try that on a practice swatch and see if it helps make a difference. Blocking could help , but I think you’ll be happier if you can loosen up the center 💕
@PlayHookywithMe I've figured out my issue, so I tried what you said and I couldn't get it to work, I'm sure it was more of a me problem 😂 but it was a tension issue. I was pulling my yarn too tightly on my hook. When the extra chain wasn't working I sized up my hook and started again with the origional pattern, had cupping again, husband said I should try loosening my stitches and now my square is as flat as a board! I'm a newbie to the craft so I'm still figuring everything out. Just wanted to say your channel has been so helpful and you explain everything very well, besides that little hiccup I've had zero issues which is more than I can say about other channels I've watched. Hope you have a wonderful day!
@@Bellllllz that’s fantastic! I’m so happy you figured it out and you came back with feedback. thank you! That helps me greatly to know what helped. That is invaluable and will help others and me as well in future to help problem solve 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️
I haven’t tried a rectangle before but that’s a great idea for a tutorial . If you need to know right now, I’d recommend you search TH-cam . I’m sure there are variations of it already available 👍🏻💕 But I’ll work on one as well.
I love the tips for the square, but I’ve tried this stitch several times for other types of projects done in rows. It’s a pretty stitch and I’m always hearing that it is. Every time I try it the work ends up wonky. I just frogged what I had done for a scarf. Aaarrrghhh!
What made a difference for me was chaining two to turn, rather than chaining one, and always turning the work clockwise. Also, make sure you are doing your single crochets in the space under the chain stitch, rather than into the chain stitch.
It’s reversible to avoid the skewing that happens if you work this stitch continuously to the size of a blanket. It’s intentional - not wrong as you’re trying to imply.
I watched 4 videos on moss stitch granny squares and had absolutely no luck trying over and over … until I found this video!!!! You are amazing!!!!! Thank you so much!
Thank you thank you! I have watched 8 videos from others, and even though this stitch is not hard, each vid was slightly different and I got confused. Your video is so calm and plainly explained, that im now ready to start something

very good tips, thanks! The HDBL at the end is a new twist of which I was not aware. Now deciding if I want a wonky blanket (will be fun visually like a fun house attraction) or a square one. Or maybe one of each! I do have enough yarn for that.
Is this possible to do in a rectangle like your other crochet to infinity patterns? I feel that it could easier be done by adding two longer sides in the first round? Right.
I I love your tutorial. Makes it so easy to understand. I would like to alternate two colors every row. Is it possible to carry the yarn or would you have to cut it every time?

@@PlayHookywithMe I'll check it out. Thanks!
I think I asked you this before, but can’t find it now - what is the brand name of the stitch marker you are using here? it looks like it stays in place without having to fiddle as much as you do with the locking type.
The crochet dude stitch markers by loops & threads 👍🏻
Definity wanderful work ❤😮😊
How about starting in the corner with a stacked single crochet.
Sure ! Try it and see if you like it 💕
Would you use this as a border for a moss stitch blanket done in rows?
That’s always an option - it would look interesting 💕
@@PlayHookywithMe Thanks for your response!
Hi, im having issues with some cupping but only in the center of my square, im not sure why its happening or if it can simply be blocked out and its not something i need to worry about.
It sounds like it would help to add some extra chains on the center to help
Loosen it up.
@@PlayHookywithMe thank you sososo much for your reply!!! I'll give that a try
@@Bellllllz I hope it works 🤞🏻🤞🏻💕
How would I do a rectangle blanket?
I haven’t tried a rectangle before but that’s a great idea for a tutorial . If you need to know right now, I’d recommend you search TH-cam . I’m sure there are variations of it already available 👍🏻💕
But I’ll work on one as well.
Love it
Thank you ! 💕
lovely!
Thank you 💕
And I forgot to mention how lovely the yarn is that you selected. Just checking to be sure it’s Peach Blossom.
That’s right , peach blossom 👍🏻💕
❤
Great tutorial👍Love the tips to making a perfect square.😊🧶
So glad you enjoyed that , thank you !🧶💕
I love the tips for the square, but I’ve tried this stitch several times for other types of projects done in rows. It’s a pretty stitch and I’m always hearing that it is. Every time I try it the work ends up wonky. I just frogged what I had done for a scarf. Aaarrrghhh!
Oh that’s a shame, I will have to see if there are some solutions for working in rows 🧶💕
What made a difference for me was chaining two to turn, rather than chaining one, and always turning the work clockwise. Also, make sure you are doing your single crochets in the space under the chain stitch, rather than into the chain stitch.
I see a bump on your granny square, it’s because your work is twisted.
It’s reversible to avoid the skewing that happens if you work this stitch continuously to the size of a blanket. It’s intentional - not wrong as you’re trying to imply.
I hate stitch markers
Good for you
I watched 4 videos on moss stitch granny squares and had absolutely no luck trying over and over … until I found this video!!!! You are amazing!!!!! Thank you so much!
I’m so glad it helped! 😀👏🏻👏🏻💕
Thanks
Really appreciate your kindness 💕💕💕
Thank you thank you! I have watched 8 videos from others, and even though this stitch is not hard, each vid was slightly different and I got confused.
Your video is so calm and plainly explained, that im now ready to start something
I’m so glad , thank you for letting me know 😀🧶👏🏻
Thank u !!!! I needed this tutorial for my tempature blanket, I'm about to start !! I hated how the squares always ended up crooked, and u mastered it !!!!! ❤
So glad you found it useful, thank you ! 🧶💕
I love the moss stitch. I look forward to using it this way.
Your instructions are great: clear, concise and calm. Thank you for sharing!🇸🇪
Thank you so much! 😀🧶💕
Good morning!
When I grow up I want to crochet just like you!!! 😁❤
Thank you so much for another Wesome tutorial. I'm 65 and thought I had learned a lot crocheting but I know nothing. LOVE your channel and your tips and tutorials are life savers. Thank you so much. Have a very blessed day!😊❤

Thank you so much for this tutorial! I love moss stitch and use it for borders mostly, but now I'm thinking I'd like to make a blanket in the round. Your tips are priceless!
Thank you ! 😀🤗💕
Thank you for your video, really didn’t know what i was doing wrong to make my previous moss stitch blankets in the round all wonky. You explained very well. I'm already trying your technic out. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge, it really helped.
I’m so glad it helped, that makes me very happy 😀👏🏻💕

Yes , you will ! 💕

Thank you so much, Cynthia 💕
Again WOW, you are one of the best crochet teacher!! I've seen a lot of other videos and yours are super easy to understand, specially the rectangle one I just watched, like I said before never been able to make one. THANK YOU! ALMEDIA.
Really appreciate it, thank you . So glad the videos are inspiring you 😀❤️
very good tips, thanks! The HDBL at the end is a new twist of which I was not aware. Now deciding if I want a wonky blanket (will be fun visually like a fun house attraction) or a square one. Or maybe one of each! I do have enough yarn for that.
Haha awesome - embrace the wonky, I say! 🫶🏻
Hi, do you have a border that would go with this pattern if made into a blanket? Thank you for the wonderful tutorial. 😊
Here are some to choose from 💕

So I could use this pattern to make a blanket? Would I just keep going till my blanket is as big as I want? I will just be using a variegated yarn.
That’s right . It will make a square blanket 👍🏻💕
Love Moss Stitch and love those stitch markers you use. They are truly one-handed.
I love them - they don’t suit all projects but things like this they stay in place w really well 🧶👍🏻💕
Yes, I’ve never seen stitch markers like this. Can you give a brand name?
Is this possible to do in a rectangle like your other crochet to infinity patterns? I feel that it could easier be done by adding two longer sides in the first round? Right.
Moss Stitch Rectangle - NO Twisting NO Jogs 🤩🧶

I I love your tutorial. Makes it so easy to understand. I would like to alternate two colors every row. Is it possible to carry the yarn or would you have to cut it every time?
Oooh, not sure on that one. I haven’t tried and can’t quite remember the organization of it. You’ll have to give it a try for us and let us know. 💕👏🏻
What did you do with the squares, did you join them or were they coasters?
These were samples just to show you the pattern. I’m not using them for anything but a coaster is a great idea as well as joining several together. 💕
