Every time I hear a piece done by David, I am just blown away. He, to me, is one of the most musical people I have ever heard. His playing is outstanding and his arrangement are just unbelievable. Everything he does, is done in taste. All his lines are clean. He cherry picks what he is going to insert into the music. That is one of the things I love about David. No pi@@@@@ contest to prove his speed. No worthless and redundant blues riffs that you will hear some of the so called jazz greats use over and over. Just pure taste and class. always interesting, and always pushing the boundaries of what can be done, both rhythmically as well as harmonically. He just has a beautiful mind for music. Like him or not, if you know anything about music, you know, he is simply one of the all time greats,
Warren, you said it better than I ever could. Dave Grusin in many ways is the greatest piano player, composer, buddy-who-makes-you-happy, musical genius that we have seen or heard in our generation. Magnificent.
Dave has been wonderful over the past 50 years and I'm a fan. But he's only the arranger here...Henry Mancini is the real 1950s-60s genius who wrote the melodies we all know.
radiokid2 I'm not sure you can appreciate how difficult, as well as original, an arrangement can be. Show me an arrangement like this one and I will admit that it's basically a cover of a song. You won't find one, and this is one makes Grusin so special. Have you ever heard his arrangement and playing of Yesterday by the Beatles? Dave is a genius, and so is Mancini. But Dave has cranked out more soundtracks and jazz tunes to fill my library, that is for sure.
Simply the BEST Dave Grusin rendition of a classic that I have heard to date. The strings accentuating the melody over the swing rhythm. And the training notes from 5:00 to the end... ethereal bliss.
Grusin fantastico tierno intenso sensible con un gran sentimiento y amor por la musica.logra penetrar en el sentimiento de sus seguidores con un ritmo unico y apasionante
..Dave Grusin is pure emotion on his arrangements and his soft piano touch..beautiful songs like this Mancini's tribute or his own 'Goodbye for Kathy', my beloved song....
The song, although so melodic and beautifully performed, is a tribute to sadness: a reflection of how two people very much in love came apart. On his album, Two For The Road, he plays with members of his band. Worth a listen.
Dave Grusin a brilliant composer, arranger of films, paying tribute here to another brilliant composer, arranger for films, Henry Mancini, with the theme from the Audrey Hepburn/Albert Finney film. the whole album where this song is taken from, was dedicated to Mr Mancini.
Thank you Umberto for uploading this one. Although Grusin is an excellent composer himself, but I love his interpretation of this piece. It's a great traveler's song and makes me eager for movement again. Just lovely.
+Umberto Carola You are very fortunate. BTW where about may I ask is this at? With beautiful music like this, you are very rich, even this piece of music I would want with me on a deserted Island.
Davvero stupenda questa versione di Grusin, a me piace molto anche quella del duo Metheny/Haden dal vivo... grazie per la condivisione e per il bel video in background! :)
Two for the road? A road for two? Does it really matter - now? We're two - oh well. we're alive and free. Time is now standing still and, we share this beautiful, sentimental moment - together.
+Umberto Carola, this is one of my favorite song, but this arrangement is exceptionally breath - taking for me ... And the place reminds me of home in the Philippines, which is only a few minutes away from the ocean ... Moments like this, brings back the olden days when I was at the shore watching the sunset almost everyday. Thank you for making this video, it is one of the best I've seen and heard. Ciao Umberto! Dio benedica te e la tua famiglia.
+Umberto Carola I add my thanks to you Umberto. What could be better than the Grusin treatment of what Henry Mancini admitted was his favorite of all the film themes he composed, "Two for the Road" in 1967 ? Classics like this will never go out of style. Again, thanks for this presentation.
Dave is a wonderful musician...but people, lets remember that this is all HENRY MANCINI music...he was the real genius of the 1960s...he did the first TV jazz score in history (the Peter Gunn series.)
If you'd like to see an exact transcription of Dave Grusin's Two For The Road, Adam Biggs has transcribed it and has it for sale at his website. I've never heard a version of this song that I like better than Dave's. And to see it on paper is mind-blowing. Here's the link, in case you're interested. www.pianotranscriptions.co.uk/dave-grusin.html
FOR ALL YOU DAVE GRUSIN FANS! Please watch the Feature Length Documentary Film about Dave titled, "DAVE GRUSIN: NOT ENOUGH TIME" For more info and a link to the film go to: www.grusinfilm.com
That's because it's Dave Grusin's interpretation of Henry Mancini's music. If it was exactly the same it would be a pointless exercise...Don't you get that ?

You'll get an 'Amen' from me, 'radiokid2.' In a tired-still-real truism, Mancini's orchestrations have spoken - and still speak - volumes.
Boy - that guy Grusin is really at the top, ain't he? One of my all-time faves, and it don't get any better. Well-said, Warren.
What a combo, Mancini & Grusin. Dave's playing is so masterful.
Music floats in the air, the horizon no curves, the firmament covers us, love God's creation🌷🌹

Well said Wen San Yong.

David Grusin is a master! How he can take a standard and make it so incredibly magical is beyond me.
Every soundtrack he wrote helped the movie that much more. His music made my senses explode with sensations, and still do.
What a beautiful arrangement. Henry Mancini is proud, I am sure!
one of mancini's best. one of anybody's best. thanks for this great interpertation.
In my opinion the loveliest melody ever conceived by the incomparable Mr. Mancini.... and what a movie!

biutiful!
excelente
Thanks for upload...
great!!!!!!
今日もお疲れ様でした
A rare pleasure
Reminds me of San Francisco or Seattle shoreline.
Other than Mancini's original rendition, this is, bar none, as good a version I've ever heard of this hauntingly beautiful melody.
Me encanta
Muito bom
My life's ambition is to play 1/10 as well as Grusin.
that is a noble goal...............and I'm right with you

Umberto, where was this video taken?
Bruce Morgan Is near Mapoli,is a place called Lago Patria.
Too slow and too jazzy. This is not the way Henri Mancini intended for it to be played.
That's because it's Dave Grusin's interpretation of Henry Mancini's music. If it was exactly the same it would be a pointless exercise...Don't you get that ?
