Since there's a lot we don't know about this tribe making assumptions just based on the way they approach visitors is quite, the explorers haven't even been able to reach the island with their lives intact... Only guy who managed to, retired.
For all we know the tribe might actually be civilized to a large extent and is probably just hostile to the outside world to prevent some colonial stuff and being dragged into war
