    I had this same issue on my 2008 coopers,I replaced the in tank fuel filter and hpfp with a cheap eBay hpfp pump for $120,still had low fuel pressure,I ended up buying a hpfp from the dealership,runs great now,fuel pressure shot up to 800 to 1000 psi

      Yeah I ended up just replacing the hpfp and it worked fantastically.

      I bought mine as a PSA part £320 if BMW part £700 for same thing as gen 2 share same parts.

    HPFP definitely was the biggest flaw on the Mini 2nd gen.

    in any car if you care.....turn ignition lights on then fully start engine like 2 or 3 seconds later. Give car a chance to wake up (do its ecu checks) i.e throttle position check and many more prior to the key turn. In a diesel it would warm the glow plugs prior to start. That's if you care but hey its your car.

      maybe a second later....just not straight away.
      Key in...push button.....wait a second....then clutch and button again to fire up. Take care of that mini they are fragile. Also buy a "ultra gauge" £100 uk poounds. It has temperature gauge and everything else you dont have along with fault codes.

      @@MrAssassinash I understand you should let the fuel pumps prime. Problem was the high pressure fuel pump failed. I replaced that and the fuel feed line (had been broken by previous owner) and the car is doing great now. But thanks for the heads up on the gauge.

      @@Knkair how do i know, If İTS damaged? My Car Runs rich, but beautifully good. Otherwise the Car Sometimes Need 3-4 Seconds top start, but no idle issues. İTS a n14

    Its mostly likely the hpfp, I have a 07 cooper S as well and I have the same problem. I purchased a scanner and sure enough the code lead to a bad hpfp (check engine was on in my car)

      I replaced my hpfp as well as the fuel feed line because whoever previously worked on it broke the clips that attached the fuel feed line to the hpfp. Instead of using the clips, they wrapped some wire around it and hooked it to the engine. After the fuel line and hpfp were installed the car started and drove perfectly.

    This is a PSA. If you are not mechanically inclined the R56 Mini Coopers ARE NOT FOR YOU. I see it in the comments, Some people can't turn a wrench if their lives depended on it.

    you have a fuel / air mixture issue, i can tell by the backfire

      Yes it was likely running lean because the hpfp was failing

      Order a hpfp from fcp euro and get it done. Much easier install than you'd expect

    anyone still commenting on this? I have a 2011 mini cooper s and the hpfp was replaced under warranty around 36000 miles. i’m at 73000 now and this happened to me this morning almost exactly the same way. waited a hour and it started up in limp mode. drove it around the block and limp mode went away. the car drove normal to work. i’ve experienced rough starts in the past on cold days but today was different. the car stalled out like 3 times when i initially tried to start it. i’ve been reading forums and see a suggestion for HEET and/or BG 44k fuel additive. any experience with this issue? will the hpfp need replaced multiple times, it seems like every 35k?

      I'd just buy one from fcp euro and use that lifetime warranty each time it fails. They're faulty easy to swap out

      Try to test ignition coils resistance 4ohms, change fuel filter and ignition spark plugs

    What was it like starting on freezing cold mornings?

      It seemed to be worse the colder it was. I don't think the cold actually effected the high pressure fuel pump. I just think the fact that engines don't like to start in the cold is just amplified by the whole engine not getting enough fuel pressure.

    u left the hand brake on

      Sensor is broken, light is always on. If you actually pull the hand brake the lcd display will display the e brake light and the dinging noise will start.

      @@Aster92718 the high pressure fuel pumps are surprisingly easy to install. There are a few videos out there on how to do it and what tools you need.
