This brings back memories of 15 years ago when I was there with a friend. Our vacation started from London Heathrow. We landed in Miami and spent 6 hours at Miami Beach & the Art Deco District before then flying out to Lima Peru. We spend 2 weeks traveling around Peru before flying back to Miami, after being caught up in the 8.0 earthquake of 2007. When we got back to Miami from Lima we rented a Mustang GT & drove to Key West. The sun was starting to set about half way through the journey to Key West, & I remember the radio station we were listening to as we were driving down only seemed to play British music from the 60’s. Later we spent 4 days driving around Florida before flying back to London.

Nostalgia trip for me . Done that trip several times . Used to drive that entire route in the 60’s and 70’s. Homestead area got wiped out by Hurricane Andrew in 1992. All of that area south of Miami was agriculture back then .
I was born in 61 and my dad was in the navy so we went from Charleston SCa to Key West and I wish we had never left. That’s what I hope heaven looks like✌️🙏

Everything is so much different from my country. I love these types of videos, thank you for sharing this drive with us all! You're an amazing guide as well! Also, I cannot believe how many gas stations there is in such a small distance between each of them. I lost count on how many I've seen during the drive. I’ve done this exact drive at the end of 2020. Absolutely stunning views of the Florida Keys when crossing the bridges going down Route 1, with of course the city of Key West being an absolute marvel. I need to visit Key West again. South Florida is truly gorgeous, I sometimes can’t believe its actually still in the US lol 😍

I'm a 5th. Generation Conch and we are an island of Dog lovers. Many of the business leave out water bowls for the Pups who are visiting our island with their families. If you make it down Again they have opened up Truman Waterfront park on the old Submarine base by Fort Zachary Taylor . The waterfront is all free lots of grass and even a nice new Dog park complete with obstacles for the pups to play on. A great quiet Place to watch sunset with your Pups. Mallory Square is fun but a bit noisy and crowded. They have a free water park for little kids at Truman Waterfront too. There are restrooms and water fountains for People and Pups but no food vendor's so bring a snack. My border Collies love their evening sunset walks there and the Puppy pals they meet on their walks. The Miami to Key West route was first built as a railroad. When a hurricane damaged a bunch of the bridges(in 1930s I think), then the state or locals down there(I forget what it was) all decided to convert the railroad tracks into a road. Some of the old railroad bridges still exist to this day, and certain ones were converted into piers for local fisherman to use. Plus anyone who wants to walk on them leisurely. Over time in the mid 20th century, a bunch of portions of the Overseas Highway had replacement bridges built. Such as where Seven Mile Bridge is located. The original bridges between islands for this highway, used the original railroad bridges that were converted into being a road.
Didn't expect much, but turned out to be very relaxing ride. With big 4k screen I felt like your passenger. Thanks for taking me where I've never been.
I used to think California was the most Australian looking state in the US but this drive is SO much like coastal country Queensland if it wasn't for the right hand drive I'd think this was somewhere around Bowen or Townsville. Very similar looooong straight two-way highway with lots of traffic and lots of little coastal towns, coconut palms, salt flats, mangroves and tourist traps.
😂 Well, Australia not only drives like the British on the wrong side of the road but most of the vehicles in Australia are small Japanese and Korean ones like you see in all over Southeast Asia!
From 53 minutes to 1h48m was my daily drive for the 3 years I worked on the Netflix series Bloodline. 80% of what we filmed was in Islamorada, 10% in Key Largo, and 10% in Homestead/Miami. But I did this drive every day six days a week... Miss it.
I enjoyed watching that and to be honest my favorite part about the whole show was the beautiful scenes and that property on the water ..the cinematography and video effects .the acting...all excellent thank you!
literally the best thing i've experience in my life, been to key west twice (while staying in miami). at least once in my lifetime i need to actually stay in key west for vacation.
Naturally things have changed in the Keys since the '50s. As a child raised in Miami, the family spent at least one weekend a month camping beside Teatable Bridge inIslamorda, until hurricane Donna destroyed the land mass. (That's pronounced Isle-a-marada). I took the whole ride to Key West with you and enjoyed it so much. Last time I did this trip was early nineties. I live in Texas now. Great Video.
It's been over forty years since I took a long drive. This was really relaxing. My last drive wasn't, I towed a 20 ft caravan from Adelaide to Brisbane, about two thousand km, or 1200 m. Hot and dry. Watching this at my desk was a lot more fun.
This feels so much like taking a ride with a friend. I was about to point out, at about 15 minutes, that there was blue sky ahead, and the skies were brightening. Thanks for this.
There are some great ocean views on different segments of the Overseas Highway. 2:29:43 - 2:36:46 AMAZING views of the Atlantic Ocean on the Seven Mile Bridge!! 😍 The Old Town of Key West is such a cute and laid back area. 😃 I felt like I was tagging along on this ride to Key West, and thank you so much for sharing, AK! 🤗
I lived there and made that trip alot. Left there and needed to see HOME. Its too hot for that trip today. No clue when I will or can. SoCal is cooler on the Pacific. Much much cooler. Thank you. God bless you. 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks very much for video taping this trip. You did a great job as it was just like I was taking this trip in my car. A lot of clouds but that is normal especially for July. Great job!
The Gulf is on the right side and Atlantic ton the left going down to Key West. The remains of the Flager railway bridge to the lower keys, built in early 1900's should be seen on your left out in the water I think. A beautiful scenic drive.
Did this trip back in June 2022. Stayed 2 blocks away from duval street and got to mingle with the locals. Wasn’t mad driving back to paradise, Miami. Even got a key lime pie on my way back

We spent a few hours in Key West and then drove back to Miami. I can't wait to do this drive again and next time we'll for sure stay in Key West longer.
I did this trip with my friend going to visit family in Marathon Key! This was in 1976 I'm sure looks very different today! But still amazing and beautiful!😊

Awesome video! Miami and southern Florida is so beautiful. I was able to make this trip last month it was amazing.
This feels so much like taking a ride with a friend. I was about to point out, at about 15 minutes, that there was blue sky ahead, and the skies were brightening. Thanks for this.
This is the best tour video of key wedt ever ,believe me.
I'm amazed how you can drive this far, without a toilet and refreshment break!
Thanks! This is such an epic journey and love seeing all the amazing views of the Atlantic Ocean
Should have seen KW back in the 70s, when I used to make 2 or 3 trips a year there...before the tourists and the cruise ships discovered it.
@@flarrfan - I used to travel to Key West in the early 80’s. It was amazing. I want to go back this year but I’m afraid to be disappointed.
HengMiao - This drive has over 1 million views I noticed 🚘😎
@@Daniel-yb7mx Thank you for letting know!! 🤗 Wow, CONGRATS to AK for reaching 1 millions views on this driving video! 🤩
Great job!
Great video. Enjoyed seeing what it is like to dive from Miami to Key West. Enjoyed the tour around Key West too.
This brought back some great memories! Such a scenic drive
OMG that old seven mile railroad bridge just sitting out there all these years rotting away!😱
Even got a key lime pie on my way back
Awesome!
Thank You! Haven't watched the entire experience yet but will do soon. Thank You.
Miami driving tour look Very besutifull view

Thank you so much for the video. I will be making this same drive in September, but from Jacksonville.
In Winter of 1999, my friend and I hitch-hiked this entire route from Miami to KW. After hitching from upstate NY first!
I have not traveled to the Keys
. Always wanted to go. So i am getting to experience it through your videos. Thanks
This video gives me 2010 vibes when I went to Florida to see my grandmother for the first time :D

Magnifique Merci Denis from France..😀🤟
As a Brit who has never been to the USA, i would love to do this trip one day. I doubt it will happen, so for now watching your travel will be close enough.
This is a really cool adventure. I’ve always wondered what it was like in the Florida keys.
it’s paradise.
This drive was one of the best life experiences. We did this drive last year. We drove down from Miami Beach and had a chance to stop at Bahia Honda.
Además de la belleza.Una obra impresionante de ingeniería. Excelente video.Congrat!
Thanks for a great ride to Key West. It has changed so much since I was there but it is still beautiful. Thanks again.
