    Make small saws from a set of filler gauges with filling teeth in them, buy a full set of these torch cleaners and you can do perfect nut slots of any size for almost free with some practice.

    There could be a lot of affordable usable nut file sets out there for under $50 if the manufacturers of the cheap ones actually rounded the bottom edge of the file instead of keeping them flat.

    Hey Matt, same approach for a plastic or bone nut? I know a bone nut is far superior.

      Depends on the application, but generally any material that is hard enough to not get compressed from the strings, and not "grabby" like really soft plastic then it'll work. Some modern plastics are impressive tbh, I'm not too snobby about it but people like traditional materials like bone or brass the most. They all need proper slotting and maintenance anyways imo
