    This is a great video, particularly the tip about weight. However, I think very old scarfs can lose some of their weight, I have a 1963 Ludovicus Magnus Louis XIV that I have every reason to believe is authentic. It has been well used over the years and is my most used scarf. It weighs 63 or 64 g (cannot remember which, weighed it a while back). Do you have any very old and very worn scarves that you have found to be a tiny bit under?

      Great point, Kathie. Silk is a natural fiber and yes, subject to aging. Depending on how well cared for and used, silk can deteriorate over time. Thanks for your comments!

    My wife just picked up a Hermes scarf from our local thrift store for $4 today, thinking even if it’s counterfeit the design was beautiful enough that it was worth it. After watching this and a handful of other videos (perfect hem, still has both tags on it and they look identical to the same scarf we saw online, colorway is correct, weighs 72grams) we’re confident she has an authentic scarf that’s worth $450-600 on eBay right now. We aren’t planning on reselling it ❤

    I'm new to your channel, and new to Hermes scarf purchases. I've always coveted an Hermes scarf, but I never thought I would get much use from them, living in a warm climate. Considering their beauty, I decided to start with Twilly's (or Twillies) for my handbag handles. I'm in love. You have been a great source of information, teaching me about the artists behind the designs. Based on your recommendation, and seeing as I am going on a trip abroad in the near future, I plan to visit the Hermes airport boutique within each international terminal I enter. From you, I also learned of the many ways to incorporate twilly's and scarves into my wardrobe, even in warmer climates. Thank you.

    One of the best tips I've seen about the Care Tags is that the only names for silk used are 'Soie" and "Silk". Many fakes will also include the word Seta, which is silk in Italian.

    Excellent tutorial! I wish I had viewed this before finding bargain scarves on eBay. One I found had the rolling toward the dull side, no care tags, it lacked the artwork’s name & artist’s name, and lastly, it lacked the Hermes copyright emblem. Oh well, it was an education.

    Excellent video Maya! I own two vintage Hermès scarves bought second hand and I made a lot of research before I purchased them. I find it easy to see the difference in the quality vs my other silk scarves from Gucci, Ferragamo or Dior, although the Dior is closer to the Hermès in its weight. I never thought of asking about the weight so I will definitely ask if I purchase a Hermès scarf second hand again in the future. Thank you!

    Hi Maya. This question always puzzled me. I thought maybe you have the answer. I learned that Hermès would never misspell on their paper tag with bar code. And that bar code tags are another source of looking out for fakes. However, I noticed that every Mountain Zebra scarf listing show the word Mountain as "moutain", without the n. I always wanted to verify this. Do you happen to know more about this and why, if genuine, Hermès spelled it without the n in mountain. As always, thank you for all your Hermès knowledge.

    • @cranleyplace
      @cranleyplace  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the question, Lily, that’s a great observation and tip. I actually went back to see if I still have the retail tag for my Mountain Zebra (I don’t), but the ones I still do have, all the scarf names are all spelled correctly. Let’s put it to the scarf community to see if anybody still has their original retail tag.

    • @cranleyplace
      @cranleyplace  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @gadgetlily at least three other H collectors with this scarf confirmed the misspelling on the Mountain Zebra tag 🏷 all bought directly from H. But who knows, there could be more examples. Thanks again for the question 😉

      @@cranleyplace Thank you for your investigation and data gathering. I think it is good news for many shopping on the secondary market that a misspelled Hermès Mountain Zebra tag, if purchased from a reputable seller, does not necessarily mean it is questionable. Thank you, that’s a great question. I don’t own any wash scarves, but have to assume that they start out the same weight, at least for the 90x90s. From what I understand, the wash treatment softens both the silk and colors. I’d recommend weighing a few of your wash scarves for reference. My guess is that they’re all at least 65g. Hi Maya - Ugh, I think I was duped. I bought one on Poshmark and it's much more transparent than I anticipated. Also, the hand rolled edges are very small stitching that's just too perfect. The weight is, well, let's just say it reminds me of the scarves my grandma used to wear, very thin and light. The design is one Hermes produced and has both the artist's name and Hermes logo matching the placement of ones found online, but I still think it's fake.

      @@cranleyplace Yes I did; it didn’t even come close to 165g for a 140cm silk shawl. I immediately noticed how much lighter it was than one I already own; that alone was gnawing at me. As I scoured websites, including the one I purchased from, along with TH-cam for scarf weight, yours is the only video that mentions scarf weight & confirmed my suspicions!! Although the return window has closed, I will raise my concern with the merchant & contact BBB if all else fails.
