Thanks Bobby, this is just what I need. I'm doing your Blues Rock Phrasing Course currently and this looks like something really useful to add to my practice routine!
Meh, BB only needed one 😉 Great lesson. I was very influenced by an article I read years ago that Miles Davis often improvises within one octave. Took a lot of pressure off trying to traverse the fretboard all the time.
@@BobbyHarrisonGuitar I practically lived there in the 90's. I thought that was you when I was recommended a video of Brit Floyd at Red Rocks. Yes, it was a great venue. Thx for replying!
I practically lived there too. Even though Harlow has its no-go areas, I feel lucky to have grown up in town and an era where there was such a great local music scene. I don’t live in Harlow anymore, but I still have friends and family there. It’s such a shame that The Square closed, but it’s great that Smithy is determined to keep booking live, original acts in town at other places such as Redchurch Brewery. It’s not quite The Square, but it’s great.
You can expand or contract a limitation exercise to suit your needs, but the purpose of this exercise is to restrict ourselves to just one area of the neck. The next video goes on to expand this to different positions. Playing in different positions is important for fretboard knowledge, but the notes will be the same, so it will sound just as limited. I feel the approach here is to do more with less and really build vocabulary within a small area.

@@matiaschaparro823 Thank you very much!
The picking technique in the bonus lick makes all the difference.
I’m glad you found it useful. Some people shy away from economy picking, but it can make certain licks easier to execute.
Love this exercise, it makes you think in melodies again..not shapes, and that's what a listener will remember
Thanks. I’m so glad you found it useful.
Thank You Brother...❤
Always welcome!
Just loving it Bobby. Thanks very much for the licks man. Very moreish. ❤

I know its good practice ,but maybe it would be just as good to practice these 4 (5) notes in different positions so it doesn't sound sooo limited.
