I think the true beauty to Walls strat is that he defines the initial layers of walls and his opponent thinks hes fully committed there. They have no idea the true horror hes built on the other side until they break through the first section. Theyre thinking "finally through the wall" only to see an absolute labyrinth of stone walls and bombard towers. Insane.
Only beauty is the incredible stupidity of yellow. They deserved to lose. 40 minutes in and yellow is making me rage with his stupid choice of just throwing cav and foot soldier at the walls.

Late but just wanted to remark about one particularly elegant move Wall did: It was impressive to see how Wall responded to yellow's big trebuchet push. He tried meeting it head on with bombards at close range, just rebuilding the wall under attack to buy time, deploying his own trebs and sneakily advancing the defenses, all of which *kind* of worked, but all of which cost him and none of which solidly solved the problem. Which is where the switch into halbs, while a violation of his previous strategy, was really just perfect. In the short term, it countered yellow's existing hussar army, but the halbs also blocked even yellow's new halb spam from getting through any gaps in the wall created by yellow's trebs, and offered a meat shield for Wall's bombards, which were soon joined by organ guns that perfectly countered yellow's switch to halbs. And then the shift from bombards to organ guns was so clean-the former were too vulnerable in this sort of open melee but the organ guns could both hold their own in that *and* hide behind walls and mow the enemy down in the role formerly filled by bombards. And then Wall proved able to advance them as a deathball effectively despite his former preference for purely defensive play. Definitely some pretty solid micro on display, but more importantly such clean tactics in this episode.
I made it. I can only imagine the "Oh COME ON" reaction going through yellow's mind when he broke through all those trees just to find those walls on the other side.
I want everyone to know that Wall is actually channeling Julius Ceasar in every game he plays. Total circumnavigation of the enemy, strategic expansion of siegeworks, and the absolute intensity of final assault.
I actually believe WALL really builds satellites. The levels of redundancy and engineering in his play style is indicative of someone working in that field.
he said it becacuse it rhimes " sad life - I build satelites " making fun of his oponent being mad but in a de-escalating manner I think :D and maybe he even do make them.
European castles are made to be labyrinths, so creating sections is just so fitting and historically accurate for Portuguese culture that wall isnt playing for walls, he is roleplaying the Portuguese in medieval defense tactics.
British Forts used to have sections that were deliberately made to look weak from teh outside to encourage attack, but if the enemy ever did attempt to breach the fort from that direction, they'd suddenly find themselves in something called a "killing field". Which is a wall with slits, overlooking a courtyard, designed to just mow people down. I.e, its designed to trick enemy generals.
This reminds me of how many medieval castles use their walls to create individual segments, forcing the attacker to run from one killing field into the next. The main difference of course being that this is usually done for _defense_ , not _offense_

It's mind boggling how he held it and defeated them. The amount of siege works and walls and towers were insane if it hadn't worked

And I love how in the beginning chat was saying how walling the tree line in his base was a waste of resources. In the end though that was the most important wall.
Even on paper it's a very effective strategy and could work on maps like this at most levels of play. Go Portuguese and wall in your opponent -> grab relics and hide feitorias in the corners or generally space them out so they are hard to completely eliminate -> use arquebus BBC to prevent your opponent from expanding past your walls -> once opponent is completely starved of gold and morale, tech into champion and flood into their base, shredding trash units and buildings alike, or if you have a nice choke point to work with, organ guns too. Every minute that you stall with the BBC is another minute you're banking way more gold and stone than your opponent, just gotta be patient enough to pull it off.

I found funny when he mentioned "yellow has a huge wave of hussars" then my mind went to "AND THE WINGED HUSSARS ARRIVED" but just bouncing of a 200 feet thick wall
Yellow's sole advantage was that he could move between theatres much more quickly than Wall. I think feinting would have given him the capacity to bust through somewhere at some point, especially when all of Wall's bombards were on the south wall. Also, I made it.
Satellites make sense I worked on ISS, and other space vehicles including SLS and this definitely sums up the fact that people in aerospace self create 95% of their own entertainment. We named him Henry the Stair Sentinel We spent 6 months photoshopping him an office. A badge. Family photos. Pro nuke/Anti-raid posters etc. Shit was hilarious. All while meeting project deadlines. (Im an engineer)
LOVED this one. I watch them all on youtube. I'd like you to interview him where he explains the order of things that he learned over the months and years to refine his technique to this pretty high level. Way more interesting than interviewing The Viper, because I'll never have Viper's innate skills so his "insights" aren't something I can take advantage of. But if I knew what WALL did and why, I feel like I could mimic that just fine. And yeah- one win every three hours is a bit of a price to pay, but it's better than the nine losses and one win I get when I play for an entire afternoon on my own.
Mom! I made it and i feel inspired! what an actual legend haha the banter was a thing of beauty and if he does build satellites no doubt he looks down on monumental historic walls for inspiration! keep these Wall vids coming :)
Made it. What really won this for wall and made the stray work was how tilted he got yellow as the game dragged on.. Yellow had so many times to break through and kept trying different strategies to do so but as he got progressively angrier his skill a began to decline until it got to the point blue realized he could actually push in and finish it. Brilliant man
The bombard visual "bug" is caused by the Portuguese unique tech. Since Arquebus gives bombard cannons ballistics, if they fire at a fast-moving unit like a hussar, their shot will go wildly off target since it's aiming for where the hussar would be. When they target a bunch of hussars all grouping up they fire in weird directions and angles that aren't actually valid as a result.
Man seeing how much they have upped their game over the course of the 2 videos is so satisfying. This looks maddening to play against if you don't see it coming and they get you in imp :D
These crazy siege battles are so much fun to watch. Edit: Everything Wall does in his openings seems very well thought out. I bet Wall is a big fan of trench warfare.
I recently won a BF vs WALL. He walled me to 20% of the map from the very beginning and built like 25k stone worth fortified walls. Only after the game was over I took the time to check his name out. Never heard of him before
You probably didn't. You probably just turtled/onion walled like most defensive players did vs the AI, including me. He using walls offensively as a way of attrition/frustration and he's rediculously good at it.
I made it, I love these long legendary games because they present little thought experiments on what could / should be and the long game analysis is really interesting. I can't bring myself to actually play though, can't bring myself to fight a lot of losing games to get to an appropriate ELO lol
One sure way is to use like 20 trebs and just mow down the wall, one tile at a time, let him build more behing and keep creeping in, nothing outranges trebs soo you will hold half the map soon enough and force a fight on your terms
Yea, make ton of TC and use supremacy villagers to do it, or trebs + arbalest, arbalest (on spread formation) to snipe BBC once he will try to snipe trebs. Either way it would not be easy as Wall is experienced in this type of warfare.
57:00 People get upset because they’ve committed this time to play to win. Now that that time is for a losing cause and they feel it’s not traditional play. They’ll say what they want to justify why they are mad. But like you said t90 just because he plays differently doesn’t mean he’s not a good player. Btw gg and ty for this game. I love games like this. It’s such a simple tactic and no one ever implements it.
NGL after I saw the original wall video I started walling in AI on arena. AI is dumb, tries to attack through the gate. So I realized you only have to wall up their gates. Easy win every time lol.
I made it, it's always neat to see Wall's strategy, some of it looks like chaos or pointless at first but you can tell they know exactly what sort of things to expect and how to counter them with where they place the walls and gates and everything.
Great content and great players : - Blue, with is rather unique strategy, perfectly executed until the end, - Yellow, who explored every strategy possible and didn't want to resign. At one point he was so close to passing through with his army of Huskarls but surprisingly temporized and gave an opportunity to blue to rebuild his defenses.
1:08:53 Stats: yellow: half army. 2/3 resources. far less workers... but 30% more Actions Per Minute. Shows what skill can make up for. Yellow was a nowhere man, living in his nowhereland, talking to nobody ♥
Its crazy how yellow kept trying to break the walls while being at zero gold himself.. even if he had managed to break through and take out some of the corners, all he would be hoping for is for blue to now use his pop space and gold pile to completely run him over
Whatever yellow did obviously didn't work, and he lost the game for that. But this game is over twenty years old, he isn't the first person to have done that, nor will he be the last. In what way is this crazy? I genuinely don't understand why people use words like "crazy" or "insane" so casually.
@@Daniel-yh9dz it's called hyperbole, and is not intended to be taken literally. It involves exaggerating an observation for effect, often to communicate excitement. Looked exactly like this. All the fords fortified like crazy and then came the petard rush strats :D amaing.
I made it, Wall strat looks so fun, about humans being persistant through anger inducing circumstances. Atleast for me i think it's the learning experience, It's easy to get angry when you think you're loosing, being treated unfairly or scammed and I guess continuing with the anger is away of over coming it and learning how to prevent it in the future (that's how i see it anyway) but is strange how we do that
I really wish that when yellow asked "What mental problem do you have" that Wall would respond "I have trouble letting people in"

You should see the meme groups in some these aerospace companies. My last one had a mascot that was a cockroach that someone found in a stairwell on an airforce bace. We named him Henry the Stair Sentinel We spent 6 months photoshopping him an office. A badge. Family photos. Pro nuke/Anti-raid posters etc. Shit was hilarious. All while meeting project deadlines. (Im an engineer)
I will also add that many people in aerospace are anti social and very compulsive. You have to be at times.
Hats off to WALL, this was definitely a huge step up from 2 years ago and so much fun to watch!
i don't watch AOE content often but damn i loved every minute of this video.
Thanks wall for that amasing gameplay
Mom! I made it and i feel inspired! what an actual legend haha the banter was a thing of beauty and if he does build satellites no doubt he looks down on monumental historic walls for inspiration! keep these Wall vids coming :)
I made it, and I loved every second of it. WALL is a legend, a man of focus and sheer will. I aspire to be like wall...
Erich Ludendorff would be proud by the amount of defence in depth that WALL uses
The french couldve used wall's vision of defense in the maginot line.
I literally just watched the last 2 WALL vids, what a legend.
"As the Organ Guns slowly Bach away"
Smoothest most underrated and undetected joke you've ever made.
We definitely need to watch more of WALL
It would be more interesting, if we could see people defeating his strat
The genuine anger in this video makes it even funnier
There's 3 videos now - the 2nd was 10 months after the 1st - 'Legend of Wall Returns' I think
Never heard of him before
32:20 this is like chocking someone with those #1 foam gloves fans bring to sports events... it migggggggggggghttt take a while!
My brother and I used to play this way all the time. It's great.
You probably didn't. You probably just turtled/onion walled like most defensive players did vs the AI, including me. He using walls offensively as a way of attrition/frustration and he's rediculously good at it.
I always watch these all the way through without skipping. I ALWAYS make it. :)
I made it, I love these long legendary games because they present little thought experiments on what could / should be and the long game analysis is really interesting. I can't bring myself to actually play though, can't bring myself to fight a lot of losing games to get to an appropriate ELO lol
I'm kinda amazed he didn't just quit at the 3rd wall, my assumption would have been "This guy has been building 100 layers hasn't he."
"atacking is scary, all I do is defend"
- Best moment quotes of mankind
Here's a wacky strategy: attack the walls with trash units and let the other player destroy his own walls with his cannons.
I was thinking that's why monks could have been great...get one conversion and all that friendly fire goes right to the middle of the siege mass
@@belisarian6429 Spanish dont get Arbalest
@@VINsational331 Monks are expensive and outranged by siege.
this game is an absolute gem

People get upset because they’ve committed this time to play to win.
3:40 - He's walling off all the relics. So yes, he does gain something by doing this.
I made it, it's always neat to see Wall's strategy, some of it looks like chaos or pointless at first but you can tell they know exactly what sort of things to expect and how to counter them with where they place the walls and gates and everything.
I made it into 41:00 I really never enjoyed aoe much but this video is really indeed interesting, I really appreciate your content!
I made it and it was worth it, this is what peak performance looks like :D
Great content and great players :
- Blue, with is rather unique strategy, perfectly executed until the end,
- Yellow, who explored every strategy possible and didn't want to resign. At one point he was so close to passing through with his army of Huskarls but surprisingly temporized and gave an opportunity to blue to rebuild his defenses.
Mom I made it lol
Me 2!
Have a good lif kiddo
Me 2
Ayyy. Just reached this point in the video!
Sad life? 11111111
Mom I made it

Stats: yellow: half army. 2/3 resources. far less workers...
but 30% more Actions Per Minute. Shows what skill can make up for.
Yellow was a nowhere man, living in his nowhereland, talking to nobody ♥
Wall is easily one of my favorite legends
Its crazy how yellow kept trying to break the walls while being at zero gold himself.. even if he had managed to break through and take out some of the corners, all he would be hoping for is for blue to now use his pop space and gold pile to completely run him over
Whatever yellow did obviously didn't work, and he lost the game for that. But this game is over twenty years old, he isn't the first person to have done that, nor will he be the last. In what way is this crazy?
I genuinely don't understand why people use words like "crazy" or "insane" so casually.
@@Daniel-yh9dz Waw that's crazy bru
@@cfilorvyls457 So you just find it crazy, without any logic or reasoning whatsoever?
@@Daniel-yh9dz it's called hyperbole, and is not intended to be taken literally. It involves exaggerating an observation for effect, often to communicate excitement. Instead of saying something is unusual you say it is unheard of. Surprising becomes amazing.
Its a very common turn of phrase which I can certainly understand being confusing for a non-native speaker.
@@TestTestGo I'm a native speaker. But indeed I didn't know such things have a proper name before. Thank you for telling me.
I guess it's probably because I've seen too much stuff that most people in our society are sheltered from.
Therefore, over the years, things that are surprising or amazing to most, became normal and banal to me. I started to find others "hysterical", and others started to find me "boring". The older I get, the more I feel I don't belong.
But anyway. I do understand things a bit better now. Thanks.
Always in for a full wall vid, even if it’s 2 months later 😂
I definitely made it, was fascinating !
I really appreciate people like you t90 who are just so genuine. Thanking subs for 2 years since the wall vid is cool dude.
All of yellow's misery snowballed from losing a scout :D I love age of empires
That's so funny I just watched the first WALL video today. WHAT A LEGEND!
3:58 The confidence of Hoang to use the Hoang strategy everytime:)
I can’t believe “I made it” through this video. What a wild ride.
I feel sorry for yellow. He got put in a cornerroom with regenerating walls.
I made it this far and this is SO entertaining!
I come back from work and Wana see some good match up and I see legend of the Walls and oh my god did this deliver
T90 been watching your streams for years thank you so much man you bring joy to us and Wall man what a legend
41:00 i made it. i don't even know what game this is but it's so entertaining. i should be working
my god WALL is just amazing.
We need more ppl like Wall in gaming in general. Just folks that play for fun instead of one meta slave after another.
absolute legend.
I made it lmao
That aside, I really do appreciate the fact that WALL doesn't hesitate half a second to wall his own units in if he has to:
Enemy broke a wall?
WALL
Is threatening my units?
WALL
Can see my walls?
WALL
Has resources?
WALL
Built siege?
WALL
Built more siege?
BUILD MORE WALLS
I lost it when Wall said "winning", absolutely ice cold gigachad
Virgin jerk: insults
WALL CHAD: I build walls and satellites ahah
reminds me of old lan paries. we were all not good at this game but we figured we always go with the map where the home areas are seperated by rivers, ban ships and make 30 minutes peacetime.
Looked exactly like this. All the fords fortified like crazy and then came the petard rush strats :D amaing.
"Someone says you have a sad life... that's a good day on the internet" LMAO
"I made it" :) fascinating how many curious strategies people come up with
I really want to see a short interview with Wall to see if he really builds satellites... Also "Mom, I made it"
41:02 I made it without skipping mr t.90
I made it, Wall strat looks so fun, about humans being persistant through anger inducing circumstances. Atleast for me i think it's the learning experience, It's easy to get angry when you think you're loosing, being treated unfairly or scammed and I guess continuing with the anger is away of over coming it and learning how to prevent it in the future (that's how i see it anyway) but is strange how we do that
