    *This is my second WEN tool and they are both great **MyBest.Tools** I needed to do some trim work around the house and needed a scroll saw for the intricate work. No complaints so far.*

    @MRrwmac 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Steve, your creativity and patience never cease to Amaze me! The type of frame suited to the picture occasion was perfect and the stories you added were Fantastic! Selection of woods for color combinations worked out really well also! How many times did you go through your music playlist while sitting at that scroll saw (haha)? I never would have thought the scroll saw portrait that was given to you would have inspired you so much! Now your skills are inspiring others! Purely excellent work on these frames Steve!

    • @SteveCarmichael
      @SteveCarmichael  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mac! Thank you very much! I listened to a lot of music while making these, which is why there is no machine noise cause I had to mute it. I think that's why so many people narrate their videos, because they are playing music while they work. I don't like doing the narrating, I'd rather talk to y'all on camera. It's more funner! lol

    I've been enjoying your videos so much! I'm a female who's new to woodworking. I always wanted a scroll saw, but was intimidated by the blade. After watching your videos, it doesn't look so bad after all. It reminds me of sewing. I like miniature building dollhouse roomboxes and furniture. My miter box and hand saw are taking a toll on my hands. Is there a smaller saw that you can recommend? I saw some at Micromark, but I don't know what look for as far as quality and versatility. I really loved the diamond ring story! Thanks!

    • @SteveCarmichael
      @SteveCarmichael  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Janine! Good to hear you are interested in scrolling. It is a lot like sewing, especially with a foot switch to make it start/stop. There are lots of entry level saws that are similar in the $200 or less range, but look for one that can hold pinless blades. If you like it, you can always upgrade to a better saw later. I really recommend the Dewalt or Delta saws, because they are so much better than the entry level saws. This is the one tool where I really notice a big difference in enjoyment between the entry level and mid level saws. Thanks for watching!

      Steve Carmichael Thanks so much for your wonderful advice. My wish list just keeps expanding thanks to you TH-camrs. From what I've been watching, it seems as though Dewalt is the best for most power tools. The girl in me really likes the color too! ☺️

    I just gave a nice Craftsman Scroll saw to a good fellow that help when I blew a tire I had no jack? He fixed me up & I saw he did wood work you can tell if yer a woodworker so I asked em if he could use it. I still wanna get another to do some projects with.

    • @SteveCarmichael
      @SteveCarmichael  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was good of you to give someone that saw...may have sparked a new scroll saw artist. I gave someone my old scroll saw when I got the new one. The Dewalt is so much smoother and easier to use than my Craftsman was. It's the one tool where it's worth the extra $$.

    • @SteveCarmichael
      @SteveCarmichael  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Lewis! LOL You should add some and try it. I am bad about adding stuff like that and not tracking it. I think if somebody uses the link and buys something, you may get a referral fee if the stars align somehow. There have been a few months were I've gotten a small fee to buy glue or sandpaper, which is totally awesome btw.

    • @RandomAudioGuys
      @RandomAudioGuys 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You get 4 to 8% of their total purchase if you link 2.00 sand paper and they bought a new engine with it you get a % of the entire sale. They have to do it within about an hour of clicking the link. I think its a good idea. Would just like to see a good purchase from it. Im curious, Hubby setup one for our videos so were going to give it a go also.

    Excellent video Steve. Bought a scroll saw last year after watching some of your videos.... Time to actually make time to take it out of the box and get busy. Thanks for the inspiration!
    I saw your early comment about having to angle the wood to cut in a straight line.... Is that due to the low tension and flexibility of the blade? Any do you have any blade tpi or brand recommendations?
    I haven't used a scroll saw in probably 20 years so I am looking forward to it. Thanks again.
    Ron

    • @SteveCarmichael
      @SteveCarmichael  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ron - I like using a reverse tooth blade 12 tpi because it cuts from the bottom and top to leave both sides smooth. For thicker wood, I use #3, #5, or #7 (heaviest) depending on the hardness of the wood. You just kind of have to buy some different ones and try them. I asked my fellow club members about having to angle the wood and they said it has to do with the way the teeth are set on the blade, and you have to adjust the angle for different blades.

    The gravity one is awesome! Also like the technique of the face framing, much easier than routing the back.

      Hey Lucas! Thanks! Yeah, I was thinking some people who just do scroll saw work might not even have a router. Plus, taking a router to a project is my perfect chance to ruin it. lol

      Hi Barry! Thanks! Hope all is well! Our Auntie Pat is visiting from Hockley this month. She brought some Flakes and Fruit Pastilles!!! mmm Yes, these would make some thoughtful gifts.

    So good to see another video from you. I think I’ve worked through most your back catalogue while waiting for a new one. Great project! Gave me some ideas for Christmas.

    This is one of your best projects to date! I was looking for something I could do with my grand-kids on the scroll saw.
    I think this will be a hit.
    Thanks Steve!

      Well, thanks! I worked hard on this one for a couple of months. I did these for a presentation at our local club, plus drew the templates and made them all. Looking forward to just turning a pen or something easy this week. lol

    I have the same DW788. Love your videos. Do you have a particular and favorited blade choice?

    • @SteveCarmichael
      @SteveCarmichael  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, thanks! I bought some Olson blades, different varieties to try them out. I have some Flying Dutchman ones and others some friends sent me. I like Olson Reverse blades for 3/4" thick or less softwood. For hard woods, I use bigger blades - #3, #5, or #7 depending on how it cuts. I just try a blade and if it burns or doesn't cut well or easily, then I move to a bigger blade with fewer teeth.
