More money saving moves from the garbage front office. Give out 20 million for a pitcher who will at best pitch next year half way thru. And when he does come back from over a year of not playing, you think he'll be pitching at the level he use to? Please, there's literally more talented pitchers who struggle coming back. Their staff can't stay healthy, and they keep signing high risk low reward scenarios. You paid Chris Sale to win the Cy Young for someone else. You paid Giolito to not pitch for you last year, and won't be ready until later this year. Paying a pitcher to not pitch for them is just par for the course. You guys say low risk high reward, this is not true. They are paying injured pitchers that take 2 years to get right instead of just paying a star what hes worth. You could of saved that near 60 million dollars that you gave to Giolito and Sandoval and actually paid for a stud.
Look at the Dodgers depth chart at the start of last season. They had like 10 stating pitchers and still ended throwing bullpen games in the playoffs. Teams need a LOT of depth and most decent starters are getting 20mil/year. This sets the Sox as a destination, which is a good thing because you can get great pitchers at a discount for a season ahead. They need to make more moves, but pretending they could've gotten 1 pitcher instead is really silly. They need *more* depth, NOT less.

Great signing if you had star players and a championship team already on the field… we don’t spend real money anymore and prob never will with John Henry owning this team… when we do eventually win it won’t be as fun as the past when we had stars… all we have is high end prospects to trade away instead of spending money, it’s a joke… basically we operate now to just get into the playoffs and hope for the best after that instead of instead of giving us the best possible chances of winning with a real playoff roster… this is who we are now it’s miserable compared to how things were in the “old days”
@@redseatradio no I wouldn’t hate it. It would still be fun, i’m just saying that aggressively adding star talent and forcing championships like you have a hunger for it (like we used too) is way more fun than trying to do it like this and luck into one

Maybe we should get some dollar general signs around Fenway Park because Henry likes shopping there so much. You are right though it is a decent upside pickup but they need to aim higher if they are going to contend.
All right...full transparency here...I don't follow other teams and their players the way I used to...when I saw this signing, I thought Sandoval was a guy coming back from the Korean league or something like that.... WOW...just when you think it couldn't possibly get worse...18 million to a pitcher who has next to no chance to contribute in 2025, but "fingers crossed for 2026!!!". The money that has been flushed on Paxton, Fullmer, Hendricks and now this feller... I work in the human service services field analyzing behavior through data and other tools. In 28 years of doing this, I've learned there one universal truth and that is " The best predictor of a person's future behavior is their past behavior". John Henry's "habit" of shopping at Family Dollar will not change unless something drastic forces his behavior to change- i.e., the real life consequence of fans not coming to games, not buying the merchandise, etc. Happy holidays fellow Red Sox fans!! Patrick Sandoval...make sure to rehab real hard...oh wait, it doesn't really matter, does it? Corbin, keep your chin up.
Massive overpay for a marginal stiff. He's never been better than 3 games under .500. 2022 was his only "good year". He was forecasted at 5.5 million. Why would they pay 8+ million. That's insane. If your #3 is 2-8 you are headed for 95+ losses. This money could be spent better elsewhere.
I was just thinking this today. It’s amazing how Chaim blooms style and Craig breslows style of running the team seem pretty much identical. Like, why fire bloom in the first place to just hire bloom 2.0 to replace him?
thats quite the way to spell corbin burnes lol. but fr tho why we gotta sign injury pitchers. its kinda a waste of money and waste of a roster spot for guys who are not gonna be here till the second half. if it works out then i’ll eat crow so it better pay off
I'm 50-50 on this move, but I do agree with you about if they add another starter, this would be fantastic. Now with Sandoval, I don't think they need to go after Burns... Sasaki or Buehler looks really good right about now! Plus Teoscar! Oh my!
Think about it. WHY would teoscar sign with the Sox? By all accounts he loved his time in LA and wants to give it another go with the dodgers. He just won a WS with them. LA is a team that does whatever necessary to field a winner. Meanwhile the Sox have been dysfunctional, without direction and clearly not interested in putting in fielding a competitive team. It’s been this way for years now. The Sox certainly aren’t going to outbid the dodgers. If you were teoscar what would you do?
@jk11463 Why so negative? I'm always optimistic. If I were Teoscar, of course I would sign with the RedSox! I'm a Sox fan! I don't think the Dodgers played up to their means, in the WS. The Yankees sucked a little bit more, plus couldn't catch the ball in game 5.
Potential depth piece to fill the gap that Giolito leaves after his one season in Boston? Like I mentioned I very much like the current Red Sox rotation. I would like a bullpen arm and a right handed bat.
This is Absurd!!! If they dont go out and get another quality SP and a power RH bat then i will not watch a single game this year! 😠 😡 Im sick of the empty promises and depleted lineup they throw out there for the last 4 years. Im DONE!!! enough is enough!! im losing my darn mind
The move is fine, hopefully we can get a pitcher of high upside when he returns in 26. However I think most fans would rather see the team sign a player that can help this year and be an impact, this feels like what they have done over the last few seasons. Also it's another we did not hear about this until it was announced, at least they are consistent in that matter. Thanks for breaking that I am sure a lot of us would not have seen that one.
@@redseatradio No I didn't mean it was a bad move, I just meant wish they would do other moves besides this type. This still has a chance to be a really good move, just not for this season.
As an Angel, on average, the defense behind Sandoval committed an error in 41% of his starts. All other Angel pitchers are between 15-20%. Defense was CONSISTENTLY trash while he was on the mound and got significantly better for EVERY other pitcher. Meanwhile Sandoval started MORE games than all other Angels pitchers in the last 5 years, including Ohtani. He worked his ass off for a falling franchise and I was ready for him to find somewhere new where he can reset.
We definitely need more pitching but this isn’t what I had in mind! $18M for someone who regressed for a year and a half and then had Tommy John. Are we basically paying $18M for 2026?? So back to square one……it would be nice to have another top of the rotation pitcher who would be available starting in April and then we still need a closer and a strong lefty reliever. But we spent $18M on someone who will be at full strength for one season. What am I missing? I’m trying to be patient. Someone please explain.
I will take Sandoval but I want Burnes too. Sandoval may prove to be a good add but we need someone also that can pitch right away. All that being said Sandoval is a good depth signing. We will see him in August/September probably.
I have no issue with the deal as long as we don't miss out signing someone for 2025 because we are 9 million dollars short in what we are comfortable offering.
I actually like deals like this. I think the Red Sox have a very young staff and I still think most will hit a wall but not bad as last year, even Crochet. So this adds a fresh arm in July or August. There also will be injuries. I am starting to wonder if when players arms start to go, their stats go bad first. There is nothing wrong to get high end pitchers and putting them on the IL. At the end of 2025 and in 2026, I think you are going to see high end minor plays ready to contribute. I still think they should add another starter and if they add a starter and Saki so much the better. Having high end pitchers that do not cost a lot is a good thing. It is better to have too much than too little. Paxton raved about the way the Red Sox treated him while he was recovering. That cannot do anything but help.
@@TheCybercoco You could be right but on this snowy day I want to be optimistic. I found out just now his surgery was in June so probably September at the earliest. But, he could be just like Hendricks.
Every year they do this. They should change the name of the team to Boston Reclamation Sox. Paxton, Giolito, Hendricks, Sandoval. A lot of wasted dollars
Never heard of him, so I looked up his numbers. A back of the rotation LH arm and not a sure thing. Ought to compete with guys like Criswell for the occasional start, as a replacement in case of injuries in 25-26. Meh...
They were willing to spend $700 million on Juan Soto. Why can't they spend less than that for Corbin Burns or Alex Bregman, instead of spending on a pitcher who can't help them until the season is half-over.
Another sore-arm pitcher the Red Sox are so fond of... dreadful and disappointing. I'm tired of this but if you like the signing that's fine. I have no interest in arguing about this organization anymore.
I don’t blame Breslow. This is just like Bloom. Get players in the bargain bin so you can play just well enough to not lose your base, and at the same time build your minor league base. Hopefully we see some proof that this plan will work this year. Hopefully they don’t trade any more of the young stars-in-waiting!
I like it. It’s building our pitching stable. I’m all for doing that any way possible. Another left hander. Bonus. What about Mayer (broken record)? Will he be a stop gap 3B and will Devers DH? Bregman would be absolutely perfect for Fenway. His RH pull swing is made for the Monster. The fact he plays some very good defense seals it for me. But he’s a champion and for that I’m sold. If he can be had for 5 years you pull that trigger. This is why Boras sucks. He wants too many years for his clients. Doesn’t matter whether Bregman wants something. He’s gonna steer his clients to most money. What if the Monster extends his career? I’d be happy if they signed Bregman. If the RS could trade for Jones without trading Mayer I’d be almost delirious with him and Crochet.
The Red Sox also got a washing machine with this move! Just teasing, I do not mind this move. But I am worried that this means were out on Corbin, unless we are gonna trade Crawford.
I think it's a smart, low cost move. Sandoval will start the season on the 60 day DL so won't be taking up a 40 man roster slot. I'm happy with this signing.
The sox need to put him on the 40 once he signs until spring training. Then they can move him to the 60. Hopefully, his spot on the 40 will be taken by Anthony or Campbell.
What a horse shit move again by the brass… our locker room is basically a dollar general bargain bin! Sell the F-ing team already… full throttle, no throttle…. More like no pulse. Lost a lot of fans over the last few years and piss poor moves like this is exactly why.
Henry is almost 80 and doesn’t give a crap about the Red Sox. His 5 year plan is not to die.

Great signing if you had star players and a championship team already on the field… we don’t spend real money anymore and prob never will with John Henry owning this team… when we do eventually win it won’t be as fun as the past when we had stars… all we have is high end prospects to trade away instead of spending money, it’s a joke… basically we operate now to just get into the playoffs and hope for the best after that instead of instead of giving us the best possible chances of winning with a real playoff roster… this is who we are now it’s miserable compared to how things were in the “old days”
right yea I am sure we would all hate a World Series win cause they only have 1 300+ million dollar player. Come on man
@@redseatradio no I wouldn’t hate it. It would still be fun, i’m just saying that aggressively adding star talent and forcing championships like you have a hunger for it (like we used too) is way more fun than trying to do it like this and luck into one
Seriously… just seriously.. 😒. Corbin Burnes is out there and we go. “Hmm a recovering pitcher from Tommy John. 8+ mil it is!!!!!” WE ARE GENIUSES!!! Ffs kill me…
might be the worst offseason of all time, as there is no reason not to spend and we aren't even close to the luxury tax.
Is the Glass Boy Sale syndrome, Paxton, Giolitto, etc😂😂😂😂
Man! WTF? I think I'm gonna go as a dodgers fan... I'm done with the Red Sox
okay
Well bye
Then you were never a fan. You dont just support the best team lol 😂
@@alesitercrimson24 I've been a fan since 2003, They know what this teams needs! And what are they doing? Breslow voice: (it would be a great idea if we sign injured players that nobody wants on this team, we got 700 million to invest but who cares)
And Remember!...They're going after Nick Pivetta..
What if they like our current rotation and dont expect to add to it?
To hell with this cheap bottom feeding team.
If Boston wants to win the world series, they will pony up the money to sign Burnes. If they don't, they won't. It's as simple as that.
I hope for my sake, this isn’t considered the next big acquisition 😂
I guess im not going to worry about it until he healthy and takes the mound, still go get Burnes.
This signing is a joke. He also waste of a roster spot. Do they really think we're that dumb of a fan base?
Maybe we should get some dollar general signs around Fenway Park because Henry likes shopping there so much. You are right though it is a decent upside pickup but they need to aim higher if they are going to contend.
I feel like I like this move a lot, now I feel like we need a seasoned vet in Buehler and I feel like I’m pretty comfortable with the rotation
Yeah you get someone else this move looks great
My sentiments exactly!
This is a depth move for the future. Doesn't really move the needle. Until they make more impactful moves, these moves will continue to be annoying.
I swear, your comment section makes my head explode every time. You're stronger than me Corbin.
Same man. Bunch of whiny losers.
Cheap money
Watched Sandoval a bit too closely thanks to fantasy baseball.. Absolutely love the upside of this signing. I believe he will produce.
I hope so too!
I actually like this signing. This is obviously a head start for 2026 there's nothing wrong with that. Now Breslow move on to getting better for 2025!
Is Chaim Bloom still running the team? Seems like one of his deals. Big market teams don’t need to make moves like this.
I was just thinking this today. It’s amazing how Chaim blooms style and Craig breslows style of running the team seem pretty much identical. Like, why fire bloom in the first place to just hire bloom 2.0 to replace him?
thats quite the way to spell corbin burnes lol. but fr tho why we gotta sign injury pitchers. its kinda a waste of money and waste of a roster spot for guys who are not gonna be here till the second half. if it works out then i’ll eat crow so it better pay off
Nice depth piece. Perhaps he could be used out of the pen in second half. But need another starter or high leverage reliever.
@@dkshdw2004 😂 okay……..
What’s next … Rich Hill going to unretire again.
Did he actually retire?
Potential depth piece to fill the gap that Giolito leaves after his one season in Boston? Like I mentioned I very much like the current Red Sox rotation. I would like a bullpen arm and a right handed bat.
It's ok that's about it. Back to waiting patiently mode.
Yeah kind of
The fit was fire today bro
Hey thanks man
This is Absurd!!!
Of course they would. But that doesn’t make this a bad move. It’s not like the offseason ends tomorrow
It tells me they are giving up on 2025
2025 isn't supposed to be a championship season. Never was. They are building a young core of guys coming up
We definitely need more pitching but this isn’t what I had in mind!
Lets hope he has better luck in Boston than he did previously!
Patrick Sandoval played 6 seasons for the Angels, 19 wins, 45 losses, holy crap! 😒
You're optimistic. This deal won't bear any kind of fruit until sometime in '26. No doubt about it.
@@TheCybercoco You could be right but on this snowy day I want to be optimistic. I found out just now his surgery was in June so probably September at the earliest. But, he could be just like Hendricks.
Great so we got a mid-season trade for a long reliever……. No prospects only money…. Now Sox need to get another Starter…..
Yeah
Every year they do this. They should change the name of the team to Boston Reclamation Sox.
Paxton, Giolito, Hendricks, Sandoval. A lot of wasted dollars
Giolito was signed fully healthy
You know what will piss off the Red Sox fans? Boston expressing a second shot with Nick Pivetta.
Chapman and Sandoval total paycheck for 2025 could get us an excellent closer.
Never heard of him, so I looked up his numbers. A back of the rotation LH arm and not a sure thing. Ought to compete with guys like Criswell for the occasional start, as a replacement in case of injuries in 25-26. Meh...
Corbin It's just more of the same that keeps the sox at the bottom.
Gosh, I think at this point the best plan for long-range, sustained success is to start winning, like, now.
Excellent Reclamation Project,,, short money High Potential
They keep on signing injured players.
Im on the fence...basically this does nothing for 2025..could be amazing for 2026 but I know I want to see some significant improvement in 2025.
Dumb typical Red Sox move
How is it dumb
I don’t blame Breslow. This is just like Bloom. Get players in the bargain bin so you can play just well enough to not lose your base, and at the same time build your minor league base. Hopefully we see some proof that this plan will work this year. Hopefully they don’t trade any more of the young stars-in-waiting!
Hate these type of signings. These almost never work. Paxton worked out so well, so let's do it again!
I actually think signing is not bad. Its affordable and risk but going to buy potential talent is smart move.
Are you happy thru far on this miserable off season ? ? ?
The sox need to put him on the 40 once he signs until spring training. Then they can move him to the 60. Hopefully, his spot on the 40 will be taken by Anthony or Campbell.
What a horse shit move again by the brass… our locker room is basically a dollar general bargain bin! Sell the F-ing team already… full throttle, no throttle…. More like no pulse. Lost a lot of fans over the last few years and piss poor moves like this is exactly why.
