I think this trade is especially indicative of D’Angelo Russell’s trade value around the league. D'lo was simply a redundant luxury for a team that had too many 1-way players, and badly needed 2-way players. So the Lakers have known since this off-season that they need 3 things: 2-way guard that specializes at point of attack defense, 2-way SF that can maneuver screens, a defensive bruiser at center that can stay on Jokic without needing any help from a double team. D'lo was good, but these holes in the team were holding us back. We just solved 2/3 of them. Now the Lakers need to get a strong center that wont get pushed under the rim by Jokic.
Great move for Lakers. Adding one of the best skilled defensive 3 and D wings in league without giving up a first is huge. Milton also a solid throw in to and could contribute. JJ was not utilizing Dlo properly at all but even still, he was better than Finney Smith and younger so that fact that Pelink also gave up 3 picks along with that is Insane. Hopefully Dlo has another resurgence there. Kinda would like to see him on the magic one day though
Now LA doesn’t have a PG in their rotation, meaning the ball will be in Brons hands more, meaning a higher likelihood he will get injured OR will play less defense to preserve his energy. I don’t mind the trade since it is an upgrade over DLo but Shake Milton as your potential starting PG is rough…
Ngl Rui, Dlo, AR and Wood all seem like the same type of player: inconsistent, offensively limited, defensively deficient, average athletes, that all need to start in order to be confident/effective
The thing about the buyout thing too is... If any player gets waived, and they make more than the Mid level exception, teams over the 1st apron cant pick them up on waivers. And most teams that are trying to contend are over the 1st apron 😂 Only like a rare contender like the Thunder have that freedom to do that since theyre not a tax team, currently.
As a Grizzlies fan I’m a little annoyed, but the Lakers offered a much better deal than we did Context: It was reported that the Grizzlies were in active conversations last night to trade Luke Kennard, John Konchar, and a protected first for DFS
The protected first was probably the deal breaker, depending on the year of that pick. Because, barring injury, the grizzlies should be really good in the standings to where their 1st round picks are probably going to be in the later rounds( like 20+). At that point, it's almost like a 2nd round pick 😂 And if it's lottery protected, it wouldn't convey or it would turn into a 2nd Rd pick( if the grizzlies ended up getting injured and drafting in the lottery again).
@@DavidParker-eu6zf I understand that, there my team that I follow. I just think you can add D-Lo and still lose a lot of games. NBA lottery isn’t as great as it used to be. The difference between last and 5 last isn’t a huge gap

Lakers are definitely going to do another trade after this there's no doubt, they still have Gabe and Max Christie who's getting his trade value up and 3 first round picks.
Those two will be waived by the Nets anyway (since they're rebuilding), so they traded DoDo and Shake for 3 second rounders. DLO will most likely be on a team that's around the 6-8 seed or a team that's looking to make it to the play-in tournament for the veteran minimum. A team that would be the sucker IMO will be the Philadelphia 76ers since they are in a precarious position right now and this move will reek of desperation.
The lakers don't need nobody, they got the players to be competitive into the playoffs, they just have to trust one another and continue to get better. .
Lakers have plenty of contracts left . And Fox contract is only in the 30 mil area . Also Reaves is on arguable the best contract in the league currently they won’t deal him unless it’s a star/superstar type player so he won’t be moving most likely
DLo is a good defensive player but a bad defensive one. He also did not put enough effort when he played. Lakers did the right thing to move him because he had become a bad fit in the roster. Wish him success wherever he goes.
As someone who is a fan of neither team I think the Nets absolutley one this trade they got picks young players and also less wins by trading DFS meanwhile the lakers just got a decent power forward I guess.
This is a terrible deal for the Lakers if they want to win. Russell is underrated like crazy. If they care more about building a future after Lebron then sure getting some draft picks is always nice. Not sure why Brooklyn did it cause they’re not in win-now mode either. I guess they wanna flip him.

4:36 8th reserve guard is crazy 🤣
The thing about the buyout thing too is... If any player gets waived, and they make more than the Mid level exception, teams over the 1st apron cant pick them up on waivers.
And most teams that are trying to contend are over the 1st apron 😂
Only like a rare contender like the Thunder have that freedom to do that since theyre not a tax team, currently.
Knecht has token dlos spot plus you can never have too many 3&D players next to lebron
Dlo is so inconsistent, he needs to go.
As a Grizzlies fan I’m a little annoyed, but the Lakers offered a much better deal than we did
Context: It was reported that the Grizzlies were in active conversations last night to trade Luke Kennard, John Konchar, and a protected first for DFS
The protected first was probably the deal breaker, depending on the year of that pick. Because, barring injury, the grizzlies should be really good in the standings to where their 1st round picks are probably going to be in the later rounds( like 20+). At that point, it's almost like a 2nd round pick 😂
And if it's lottery protected, it wouldn't convey or it would turn into a 2nd Rd pick( if the grizzlies ended up getting injured and drafting in the lottery again).
I know your a nets fan too, you dont think theres any chance he stays? I could see him balling out with the nets and maybe getting extended
But they don't want him to, not this year anyway. They're trying to capture the flagg
They’re trying to tank, they don’t want him playing well and helping them win games.
@@DavidParker-eu6zf I understand that, there my team that I follow. I just think you can add D-Lo and still lose a lot of games. NBA lottery isn’t as great as it used to be. The difference between last and 5 last isn’t a huge gap
I liked Finney-Smith with the Mavs haven't really watched much of him in Brooklyn.
Dam LA improved I hate my life
Arguable
Did they, tho?
@@rongiefaustino8867 I mean dlo is ass 12 points on barley 40% shooting as the lakers 3rd or 4th best player and Russel is shit on defence and you get a 3 and D wing so idk it depends on how you see dlo as a player
@@Capyfish2064 yeah that and how the lights effect finney, people forget alot of players have a hard time playin in LA consistently
@@Capyfish2064 can't argue with how ass DLO is. But the Lakers' improvement is very much up in the air.
This was a good start trade but they gone need more they still not beating beating OKC or dallas or even the nuggets with finney smith
Lebron is like Zelenskyy he always needs more help and can never deliver 🤣🤣🤣
Bro that’s gotta be a record. Returning to 2 different teams lol damn.
DLO to the mavs in small contract to replace luka for the next 2 months (til all star break)...he can play shooting guard in kyries spot, kyrie in lukas spot, and hardy gets his chance to prove himself as backup pg
Lakers are definitely going to do another trade after this there's no doubt, they still have Gabe and Max Christie who's getting his trade value up and 3 first round picks.
Why would we trade max, he’s been getting decent
@@MiseryBagZexactly their probably gonna get rid of jhs n wood either one of those before anyone else
Good job lakers, don't address the issue - we need a big man who can score in the post
If dlo can reach a buyout with Brooklyn, Miami Heat would be a good landing spot for him.
He wasn’t buried in LA, he was averaging 26 mpg this season. He’s a liability on defense and he has to have the ball to be successful.
& that's Lebron's job on this team. DLo had to go!
You're underestimating Max Christie
Its crazy how his career has gone down hill. He's only 28 thats when players are usually in their prime.
The lakers don't need nobody, they got the players to be competitive into the playoffs, they just have to trust one another and continue to get better.
.
They can’t play a fourth quarter after two games in three days….
Lakers have plenty of contracts left . And Fox contract is only in the 30 mil area . Also Reaves is on arguable the best contract in the league currently they won’t deal him unless it’s a star/superstar type player so he won’t be moving most likely
I don’t think this is a good trade for the lakers but I think that keeping DFS from going back to the mavs was a good idea
DLo is a good defensive player but a bad defensive one. He also did not put enough effort when he played. Lakers did the right thing to move him because he had become a bad fit in the roster. Wish him success wherever he goes.
Bizzare from the Lakers, they're going nowhere now and they give up multiple future draft picks for a 31 yr old averaging 10 a game?
Lakers dont need a third star, it was the right move
Nic claxton won’t be traded he’s a part of the nets future.
As someone who is a fan of neither team I think the Nets absolutley one this trade they got picks young players and also less wins by trading DFS meanwhile the lakers just got a decent power forward I guess.
Would have loved to see Ben Simms playing with the Lakers
This is a terrible deal for the Lakers if they want to win. Russell is underrated like crazy. If they care more about building a future after Lebron then sure getting some draft picks is always nice. Not sure why Brooklyn did it cause they’re not in win-now mode either. I guess they wanna flip him.
They should use all their draft picks themselves and not trade for any of them (as they should have years ago) for a while.
I really want DLO to play for the nets.. been a lifelong nets fan and I was gonna stop watching basketball cause we were so bad and DLo reignited my love for the team. Sucks he’s prob not gonna play
All we need now is a cam Johnson caliber player and we are solid.
Nets D’Angelo was on another level.
Nets fans don't want D.Lo back. We trying to flip this trade some how.
fact they aren't building to win now is just disrespectful LeBron is 40 yrs old AD might stick around this is a mess for the lakers
Bucks could use Claxton he always plays Giannis tough. But… we have no assets that BK would want and we can’t give up AJ or Andre!
yo the description says '3 first round picks' for DFS 🤣
Fixed my bad, thanks 😂
