A good defense for his only full length American film. I think it's his weakest film but still recommend it to anyone going through his canon of work. It's a solid good film surrounded by bunch of some of the best cinema ever made. Some non American director's films and styles just work perfectly in their own homeland, take it away from that setting, actors and crew and it doesn't hit the same. My Blueberry Nights is a perfect case for that. Also Christopher Doyle not on board is missed.
Norah Jones ain't no Faye Wong but she does a decent enough job. I always found the Rachel Weisz/David Strathairn, the least interesting part of the film. Jude Law is likeable. Good soundtrack and it is well shot but Kar Wai in America with English speaking cast just doesn't work. The Grandmaster was a nice return to form after this. He's only directed a TV series since, hopefully we see another film from him sooner then later.

Could not agree more. I had not seen it more than once when it came out so having to watch it several times for this it grew on me. More than I was expecting and I think it might have been the music more than anything.
