Check out my top 16 indie games coming in 2019 www.youtube.co.... I review Celeste on the Nintendo Switch. Is it the masterpiece it's cracked up to be? Let's find out.
What I love about this game was that, as difficult as it is, it's also strangely relaxing. It never makes you feel like it's punishing you. And because every screen is a checkpoint, it's very pick-up-and-play. I would come home from work and tell myself to clear a few screens today and then put it down to go do something else. And of course, the graphics, soundtrack and story are a true delight. As triumphant as I feel clearing stages and chapters and getting strawberries I feel that I'm rooting for Madeline as well. I just want to give her a hug.
_"What I love about this game was that, as difficult as it is, it's also strangely relaxing. It never makes you feel like it's punishing you."_ This is exactly how I felt. I highly suggest anyone who enjoys Celeste for these reasons give _Ori and the Blind Forest_ a shot as well.
Antonio 4 Annunziata did you get it? If so, would you say that it’s as hard as everyone says? I’d be happy to be able to get through the base game, let alone the b c sides but going by what everybody is saying, I’m unsure if I’ll even make it that far.
@outsideredge In your paragraph you've explained simply why it might be a good idea to buy this game better than all these reviewers and TH-camrs spouting about how great the platforming and emotional impact of the game is, in their full articles/videos.
It's weird. Platformers aren't really my thing, but I finished Celeste. Without assist mode too, though I was tempted to turn it on multiple times. Celeste is so charming, and I find that it's easy to see how I improve each time I fail. The failures were, inevitably, part of the fun. Sometimes I got frustrated, but I'd just take a break before eventually coming back refreshed and ready to continue. In all seriousness, it took me months of on and off play to make it to the peak. I haven't even started Core or the B-Sides. But I was fairly proud when I managed to make it to the top! With quite a few strawberries too! I found the reward was in getting a little bit further each time I tried, and eventually overcoming the challenges that lay in front of me, be it collecting a strawberry or making it to the next screen! On top of that, I think the fact that I know the game is difficult took away some of the pain of failing over and over... In fact, I died nearly 4000 times before I reached the peak! Sure, you could see that as failing nearly 4000 times, but it also means I got back up and tried again nearly 4000 times, and I eventually succeeded. I realized why the game tells you to be proud of your death counter. Because it means you made mistakes, but kept trying and improving and eventually succeeded. It is the ultimate symbol of growth.
I love this game so much and you covered something most reviews don’t. That initial ‘are you f-ing kidding me?’ Only to end up nailing it. There is such a sense of that metaphorical climbing of the mountain. At the summit - #11 killed me.. I died 1300 times just on that part because I hadn’t watched any TH-cam videos and wanted to complete it on my own. Even though I’ve done everything including the fire and ice levels, I just cannot get enough.
Graham Kelly Respawns happen in the screen you left off in. It can be difficult but never unforgiving and it’s so damn satisfying to complete each challenge
This is my favorite game of all time. Even though in my rage I say I hate it. It has the coolest platforming I’ve ever seen. And the mechanics are pretty simple
I downloaded this game, and for the first couple of hours I didn't get what the big deal was about. Then I got it. It's an amazing game, it has a great amount of variation to keep things interesting and the rate of difficulty increase is set perfectly. Each area is daunting to look at at first but rarely do you have to work out what to do for more than a couple of minutes. It reminds me of when games were awesome and challenging in the early 90's.
Excellent Review! I've been on the fence of getting this game from just hearsay - I'll give it a shot. If I end up hating the game, I won't hold it against Quest Mode. I believe your review for yourself and many others.
@@omaisho the only thing that frustrates me in this game is how often it won't go in the direction you want to go. so many deaths due to that. i feel like if i don't push the stick exactly diagonal, then it goes either up or straight.
@@notjohnsmith517 Oh, I've never experienced that before. That might be because I'm using a pro controller and the stick is a bit bigger, but I could see why that would be annoying. :P
Dude I beat this game with a wonky pro controller… when the D pad wasn’t precise enough because the analog stick was drifting… I ended up having to use the analog stick I had 1400 deaths after 11 hours lol
Good review, but I don't think it was _as_ good as the reviews say... like... it's not a 10/10 game, but it's at least an 8/10. I felt like the story ended a bit abruptly and wish we the story was a bit larger than it was. 5:13
Awesome job dude keep it up ur video format is so clean and you worded everything perfectly. I subbed but you deserve way more. Keep up the quality work!
If it goes on sale maybe I’ll get it, I definitely want it but 10 hours just doesn’t seem worth $20 to me, I doubt it will ever go on sale cuz ive never seen it on sale once
It's free if you have Xbox Live Gold. I had never even heard of this game. I did my research on it once I saw it was free, and I was shocked to see so much praise. 2 hours in so far, and this game truly is amazing.
No, there are actual old-school platformers and Banjo-Kazooie is not one of them. Being "old" doesn't make something old-school. The word "school" has a real meaning.
This wasn't in response to the game being frustrating, but rather in response to the levels looking damn near impossible before attempting them. Once I jumped in, I eventually found my way through without getting frustrated.
Obtuse? Did you mean another word like roundabout? Anyway, you don’t know what a panic attack truly is until you’ve had one. And the game knows that. That’s why it does more than just saying “panic attack.” You might see a line of dialogue here in this review, but you don’t see what the game shows before and after that dialogue.
The game looks interesting and fun but calling it as good as BOTW or Mario Odyssey is ridiculous. Great old school platformers are a dime a dozen, like Super Meatboy, Cave Story, Steam world Dig and Shovel Knight just to name a few.
All three games shine in different ways. In terms of sheer value, I agree that BOTW and Odyssey win out because they will keep anybody busy for dozens, if not hundreds more hours than Celeste. But in my opinion, the story in Celeste was better than the story in BOTW and I had more fun with Celeste than I did with Mario Odyssey. But that's just my experience. Thank you so much for watching my video and leaving such a thoughtful comment!
Nepu-Tech USA Honestly this game comes very close The story if perfectly written The controls are...well the xbox controller doesn’t like diagonal dashes The game is extremely beautiful and really fun and the soundtrack is the best video game soundtrack I have heard in so long! Also there is so much content in the game despite how much is shown There is a secret 8th chapter,B sides, crystal hearts,C sides, golden strawberry’s and also this game is perfect for speedrunning It is considered by some to be the best indie game ever! I honestly think its in my top 5 games of all time This game in near perfect in every way!! The game even still teaches you new moves all the way to the last level in the game In the core c side it teaches you hyperdashing which is shown no where else in the game I highly recommend you get this game
This game is something special. You'll never understand if you dont play it, but there is far more than meets the eye. It is definitely up there with Mario Odyssey, in my opinion even higher.

This is probably the most well written review of Celeste. Subbed.
Oh, bu tyou missed one thing... The C-side. Levels designed by the devil himself.
Don’t even get me started on chapter 9
I beat it, but
*IT TOOK ME DAYS!*
"Most of them take anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 min." Me stuck on the same level for over an hour:
This right here. Hahaha. This game hurts so good, though.
I am sold, you made me want to play this game, great review!
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
You really need to if you haven't yet
Dude, your style is so clean! Well done!!!!
Thanks for the kind words! And thank you for watching. I'm just trying to grow my channel, and every view counts!

Jordan Dwiggins ah, I feel more confident now. Still not brave enough to play bloodborne. Tho. Lol

"This game it's never frustrating". You filthy liar.
Just finished it and didn't get frustrated once. I guess it's just a matter of a person's outlook on the game's trial-and-error nature. :)

Ha! Yeah, she is pretty awesome :)
Forza Ninetails
She has severe anxiety too
There are no collectibles in b-sides

Use the D-pad for the whole game EXCEPT for the feather sequences, where you'll want to use the joystick.
I liked the video! I played Celeste all of the way through the c sides and touched on it in my video, you definitely stuck to the good stuff
I don’t own pro controller, can I play handheld with hori split pad pro?
Awesome review, lighthearted and interesting. So awesome to see you consistently putting out great content! Looking forward to the next video
Thanks for tuning in and commenting! Glad you're enjoying my videos!
Great review man! Really insightful, made me appreciate the game even more.
Thank you for the kind words! Glad you liked my review and the game.
I eventually got fed up, cranked up most assists and just rushed it. Not really feeling like installing this ever again.
