Great video. RIP Peter Brock and John Harvey, thank you for the memories. Definitely 1982. This car won Bathurst in both 82 and 83. Sold a year or 2 go for over 2 million from memory. How about the A9X that parked behind the guys?. Cheers
hah yeah ! back in the day they used to pay me a few bucks a month. Imagine if I hadn't of given up on it. I'd be famous, pity I don't want to be famous :p. I reckon I should try and get to 1000 subscribers since the 500 I have are probably all dead and I wont be losing them :d
Last year I was looking at an upload I have of John Harvey in a drag race at Calder and noticed he had commented on it many years before and I'd never seen the comment. He died before I replied.
This was just after the homologation of the SS when the Commodores gained 80 horsepower with the big valve CNC'd heads and had also lost around 150 kilos in minimum weight. Bob Morris' car would have also been at least 50 horse power down on Dick Johnson's Tru Blu.
thanks for this i enjoyed it ford holden dont matter this racing is to blame for my love of AUSSIE cars yanks are the homeland of racing but we do it better NEVER LATE IN A 308
@trevorwinton I wonder if this is actually 400 yards instead of a quarter mile (440 yards). From this website www.whichcar.com.au/features/holden-vh-group-3-vs-peter-brocks-vh-05 under the heading faster and faster I found this In a promotional event the day before at the 47th Australian GP, Peter had recorded 12.30sec for the 0-400 yards on the Calder drag-strip and had beaten the Bob Morris/Alan Jones Falcon in doing so. In the video they say Brock did a 12.69 second quarter. 0.39 seconds for 40 yards, that's slightly over 100 yards per second, I don't think that is possible. So to me it seems for Brock they have maybe included reaction time of 0.39 seconds in the time. I reckon Brock car can do quarter mile in very high 12's or 13 seconds flat. Page 31 here www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au/bathurst_program_1983_index Shows 0 - 100kph in 4.86 seconds, 0-160 kph 9..99 seconds and 13 seconds for 400 m What are your thought on this ?
Heheheh. Wishful thinking. Yes, we all know the green meanie has a bit more kick-ass grunt than the VK. We can only hope David Bowden and who ever is keeping the 05 VK at the moment get to read this comment....
shows how much more development brocks car had. and his wins arnt all that great towards the end when you look at how much better his cars were (against priv enterd low budget teams) and how much money was avalible to develop with. still a very amazing driver but nothing godly.
you just go by the old lap time's of these cars you want to see race brocks time back then with the cars of today time's on the same tracks to see a gap i am shore track surface has changed since then to .
To all those 'real' racing fans from my time, you'll agree with this. The 351 in Morris XE is 'down' in power - not properly developed and will never had the chance against the fully sorted HDT 05 car or even the Re-Car Commodore. If it was Dickie Johnson in his beaut TRU-BLU XE, the result might be alot different. His 351 has abit more 'oomph' after several years of good racing. Just saying how it is so be nice to me!!!!
Brocky lives on forever. Its good to see this old footage coming out

PB competed in the drag racing nationals, at Calder, in the A35 Sports Sedan in his early racing career.
Funny, PB after his run wanted to do a full lap of Calder !
He got the worst start of the 2
and still won it, classic...
You been on TH-cam forever 🙌🏽

Great video mate do you have any more old footage like you can put up..
Bummer!
Hope "that someone" will download it some day.
Top Flick, Have you got any footage of the Hatch in the background running?
I miss Peter perfect
I loved it! Wish i could shut the guys up so i can listen to those lovly engines
@21Wook75 that looked to me like both cars did it somewhere around 12 seconds.
The XE Falcon in question was driven by 1976 Bathurst 1000 winner and 1979 ATCC Champ Bob Morris.
Cool Action...

There was no doubt over who was going to win that.
Thats bloody good youd have to spend a few bucks even these days to get even a 6lt clubby to do that time
thats classic
owned...
12 secs over 400m thats quick
thats definitely quicker than i wuldv thought
err, the falcon driver wasn't Dick Johnson.
12.69 sec is not bad for a naturally aspirated 308 commodore
its calder

Lots of moaning and excuses from the Ford fans in the comments - just accept that you got beaten this time...it's no big deal.

Holden smashes the Ford... what else would you expect. Those old Fords looked like tanks and about as ugly too
