Penn is owned by Pure Fishing, that's why I mentioned it. China doesn't take jobs away from Americans. American companies outsource jobs to China. I am not a fan of China, but I do understand the reason for outsourcing. Quality is also dictated by the American company, not by the Chinese. You get bad products out of China because the American Company did not want to pay more to make it better. China is just an employee.
Hey so where are all four of them bearings in the c4 reel? I know there’s obviously the two spool bearings, the bearing in the handle side of the worm gear (that the c3 doesn’t have) but where’s the last one? I’m talking about the previous generation of c4 reels without the bent handle, idk if this new generation is different or not.
A very reasonably priced reel, I wonder whether it will be good for distance landbase casting say with a surf rod ? Worse comes to worst, may be I can install some Boca ceramic ball bearings. I just installed some onto my Calcutta 251 and it definitely improved the performance and I now have to active 2 brake blocks without excessive thumbing.
Can these be used to fish for schoolie stripers in the 10 to 15 pound range? Also, can these handle deep water crankbaits and swimbaits? I have two older C4's from 2009. Both 5601's that I was considering using for striper fishing. Other than the 6-pin braking system and the bent handle and star drag, and maybe the duragear system, is there any else that could be different between the two that would make this a step up if I were to get the newer model?
So you still would go with the shimano tekota 500 and 600 reels over the abu garcia reel for trophy catfish and striper fishing in freshwater. Drifting and using cut bait on the bottom. And sometimes using live bait for flathead catfish. Thanks for your help
Hi there. I am looking through JH and deciding between the c3 and the c4. Aside from the release mechanism and the bearing count, I don't seem to notice much of differences. Which would you recommend?
also standard thumbar on the C4 vs old school side push button clutch on the C3 which means your thumb is not holding the spool when it goes freespool to cast. And i'm pretty sure the gears are directly swapable so you can order C3 gears with lower gear ratio and drop them into a C4.
Love this reel iv had an 88lb tope the reel handled it fine not a problem.. I think its all down to the person using it,, This is the reel I use for big fish and 30lb braid its fine but I do use 6 feet of 100lb mono/hook length, sharks will brake the braid if it rolls on it..
Thanks. I will try to see if it is confortable or not, I was thinking to use it with brand line to fish on top water with some frogs , I have 2 low profile reels with monofilament and I want to try the brand but they have a good mono so I dont want to change it
not ideal suitable for baits like that or that kind of bass fishing really. And you'll never need a reel this size for them. If you want a round reel, find a smaller one like the calcutta 50 size or 100 size diawa round reels. You'll be looking at double the price over this C4 but it'll be more what you're after.
Bidhan Joshee The Rocket is made in Sweden. Just because something is made in china doesn't make it crap. Quality is determined by the manufacturer, not by the country of origin. Bad reels are the fault of the manufacturer, not China.
Great review on the reel and great videos on your site. Thanks for taking the time to give us simpletons information. Fishing question: thinking of using this reel for 20-40# striper and between 2-4 oz lures, will it suffice? Thank you much.
jandhtackle but that is the clicker right? that isn't quite how a spinner works, considering you don't get the noise on a spinner when you crank the line in.

jandhtackle I brought it inside and when it warmed up (actually heated up from the warmer air) the drag started working if you know why I would be happy to know. Thank you
Yes, but 20pounds of drag is a little less scary, you'll just have more of a fight on your hands with the lower drag. Not a problem just don't put it on full drag otherwise there will be a failure either in your knot or your line
The round bait casters a new to me. I noticed some have the black bit for your thumb and others have the little metal button on the side. Which one is thumb bar and which one is push button?
Drew Olmsted 6601 is left hand model. I just got myself one for my Christmas present. Put line on it tonight and will be fishing with it at 6 am tomorrow. BTW I got it for $79 at Gander Mountain as it was the display and didn't have a box.
still cs rocket 7000 are made In sweden?oh thanks sir for ur information.thank u so much fell the same Iphones are made in china..ok I will get 7000 cs pro rocket
No it's not. All of the gold penn reels are made in the usa. All of the gulp and plastic containers are made in the usa. Also, what is your problem with China? iphones and iPads are made in china.
You are only partially correct. Many companies have had serious problems trying to maintain quality control by remote control, half a world away. There are also cultural and political hurdles to overcome in management. So if a subcontractor somehow puts melamine in your milk or lead in your kids hotwheels paint, or cadmium in your little girls earrings, what can you do? You don't have much recourse as a consumer or a company manager. Once you start production on your great new widget you might as well forget about intellectual property rights. Your foreign contractor will go mysteriously out of business, morph into a new enterprise and start making your widgets as their own, and to hell with your quality standards. Ladders, batteries, food items, jewelry, you name it. They can make it cheaper and more dangerous. Just try to sue. Why should anyone care though, if they destroy the business rules and environment that consumers depend on for safety? Who cares about labor laws or the environment? Who needs industrial infrastructure in the developed world? Who needs manufacturing jobs? We have our white collar jobs, right? Oh, wait, they are being outsourced too,or workers are being imported to do them. And we all know how great it is to try to get customer service communication, product support, repair parts, etc. these days. Products used to last for years, and so did jobs.

great for left handed people.......they don't offer shit for people that learned to fish the right way....right handers rod in right hand crank with left.
@@Firelord360 I'll agree with joe bama I am r/h dominant from birth. I cast right handed and reel left handed. I own several of these Josh and they are virtually indestructable
Yes. As far as I know. The reel is stamped Made In Sweden on the sideplate.
I use one of these from my kayak targeting stripers with 40 pound braid and it has been working great.
What rod?

How does this handle with Muskie fishing? For continuous casting.
This is an old style reel. maybe to upgrade to something newer.

Might be a stupid question but can I lug 10-12 oz with this reel? Lures not bait rig.
JandH - can you tell me or show me how to fix the click spring? It seems to have gotten bent wrong or something. Thanks!
Your best bet is to call the shop in the morning and ask for Jimmy. If the store is not too busy he can walk you through it. 631-244-0600.
Hi there. I am looking through JH and deciding between the c3 and the c4. Aside from the release mechanism and the bearing count, I don't seem to notice much of differences. Which would you recommend?
The gear ratio is the big difference. I've fished the c3 all my life so I am biased.

Which one of the reels would you choose for trophy catfish. 40 lb to 70 lb. The 6600c4 or the 6500c3 reel. Thanks for your opinion
Timothy Mcvay They both seem small for 70 lb fish.
What kind of rod do you suggest I use?

You cannot bottom fish with 8 ozs of lead with this reel. Not even close! Get a Shimano Tekota or something similar.

Could this handle 10-50lb yellowtail?

You can but you will need to practice. You'd be better off with a low profile reel for that.
