Yes, we do occasionally. Most of the old mines are mapped but there are always some that are not. I've never had an issue with explosive gas nor oxygen deficiency but have had problems with water rushing out.
How much trouble would it be for 1 man to standby to remove the rocks from the top of the machine ? Otherwise,1 man to operate the heavy equipment, the cost of fuel and he had to make at least 3 attempts to clear it but he can’t see it until he moves the loader,
Not only very unsafe if wall collapses which they do from time to time but also there is alot of coal dust floating in the nearby vicinity which is extremely bad for you lungs and health, the loaders have air conditioning pressure cabins to stop dust entering.
your front end looader operator need to practice when his tire get close to the machine so he ca do a scraspe off of coal in stead of a flat drag which is hard on the machine.
Yeah dunno about this highwall mining stuff. I worked for a company here in Australia that bought the archveyor system off arch industries in the USA & it had more problems that what it was worth.
OH YOU EVIL MONSTER DESTROYING THE WORLD ! Just off half way round the world for a chat with my fellow dictators in a 747 just me and 10 staff , just MY RIGHT !
this method of mining uses a machine that can cut the vein of coal out of the ground without the need of mountain top removal to get to the entirety of the vein. so they remove as little overburden (soil above the coal) as needed to expose the vein then the can set up this little guy and as it grinds the coal at the front is passes it along to the rear of the machine.
3:35 I can't believe that operator wasted all that time and fuel doing something he could have done in half the time with a stiff yard brush. Wasn't exactly clearing boulders was he? I'd have jumped out and kicked it all clear with my boot. I'm not wasting fuel or machine time on that.
When is $ 400 a tonne every bit is worth it goes through a wash plant, the high wall miner is lazer guided , you can’t stand on it you have to be 15’ from high wall in case it collapses
Dude! Talk to us! You know all about what is taking place and you don't say a word? Uhmm? Best of luck, but you might want to ponder a change to your format.
Not sure if you have noticed or not but this is the first few videos I’ve put up on YT. I do take in constructive criticism and am trying to explain things more in newer videos.
Got electricity in your home ? Drive a car or truck? I bet there's many items and comforts in your life made possible by coal, at a cheaper price than any other energy source
Would like to see other end of machine if possible, thanks. Any stats ( tons per hr, fuel usage, etc) w/also be welcomed.
This is not the "modern" way,its just one of the many ways to mine coal
True!!! Modern compared with older ways up to around the 1980's. The good part is that techniques are still being improved upon everyday!!!
You should add what type of machine you're using here.
High wall miner
And when the mountain sits down on it, call us over from the deep mine to go in after it
just wondering if the mountain ever crushes the columns left behind. they don't seem very wide.
It will get crushed some day, gravity is undefetable, but we probably dont life than anymore.
Occasionally, but if the MSHA Ground Control Plan is followed closely it rarely happens.
Sometimes after the weight is removed the ground is pushed up and closes the adit
Do you ever break into old workings? Interesting to watch thanks.

Where mining around old works now in illinois its sketcky lots of water in them old mines lol
High wall mining!
Yep. One of a few different ways of doing it.
It heart breaking leaving coal seam between mine out area and start new mine out .
Not able to mine it from surface so next step is Highwall mining it.
That was a cool video
THANKS!! I hope to have some more like this soon.

People are not allowed any closer to the wall unless they are in a piece of equipment with fallen object protection. Mining laws are very strict!!!
Rules in these types of industries are written in blood my friend.

makes me sleepy
Looks like the machine from terminator

Tph on this operation?
Not very much, IMO
This was high wall mining .when ever stripping ratio be come more monied out high wall coal removed by this method
Still along the bord and pillar method
more videos please?
Yeah dunno about this highwall mining stuff. I worked for a company here in Australia that bought the archveyor system off arch industries in the USA & it had more problems that what it was worth.
has to be high maintenance
Good..
If ya ask me seems alot of waste coming off the chain
Amazing! Coal is the only source of CHEAP & RELIABLE Power! Beautiful stuff!
Long live King coal!
Hydrothermal and natural gas power plants would disagree.
High wall miner operator keeps raising the cutter head into the rock above the coal seem. Don't!
It was going to fall anyways and is better to go ahead and knock it down to chew it up and send it

EXTREMELY OLD EQUIPMENT. How can you call this modern. It’s high wall mining using technology from the 70’s or 80’s.
This is completely incomprehensible to people that don't know mining. Narration would be appreciated.

Not really very difficult to to comprehend.
I dont know shit about mining and this is pretty self explainatory
40 plus years old, limited depth possible - BSc mining engineeer degree Colordo Shool of Mines
@Howard Right next to Kanss and Uth
And you can't spell school?
long wall mining seems more efficient,
It is. But this is one of the most efficient ways on the surface with no one underground and no expense underground.
slow going, even by 1970s standards
It's just punch mining..

Wasn't exactly clearing boulders was he?
I'd have jumped out and kicked it all clear with my boot. I'm not wasting fuel or machine time on that.
I'd leave the machine running while I did it!

MSHA doesn’t allow people any closer to the wall without fallen object protection. Welcome to laws on mining.
those rocks falling off the face are bigger than you think. the arm on the machine is about 3' high
You go and remove those rock's, instead of laying in your recliner.

Better for the planet to leave it in the ground.
Better for my family to mine it!!
@@halfwayfarmsandoutdoors3550 bravo! Do it!

@Bradley White How so? Do you like electricity?
Got electricity in your home ? Drive a car or truck? I bet there's many items and comforts in your life made possible by coal, at a cheaper price than any other energy source
Boring
