Kyle Petty traces racing roots with Matt Kenseth | Coffee with Kyle | Motorsports on NBC

He was my driver since the 2000 season. I loved his driving style early on in cup. He didn’t complain, he didn’t dirty race. He just went out, held his ground and finished good. Miss watching him at Charlotte.
6:45 hits him, gets him loose passes him for the "win". Typical "rubbing is racing" bs. He's like everybody else.
I REALLY MISS MATT KENNSETH ON TRACK IN NASCAR HE WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITES...
These are one of the most relaxing and interesting interviews out there. I'd love to just put myself in Kyle's shoes and listen to Kyle just telling stories for a while
When you look at Kenseth's timeline, there is no doubt in my mind he is one of the top 10 best drivers in the HISTORY of NASCAR.
1) 2003- Gives Jack Roush his first cup Championship.
2) Kenseth leaves Roush Fenway racing in 2012, Roush starts to decline heavily (once Edwards leaves they become bottom feeders)
3) Kenseth joins Gibbs in 2013, they become the most dominant organization in the sport (still are to date). They were good before, but they weren't winning championships and 50% of races on schedule like now.
4) Kenseth rejoins Roush in 2018 with #6, a 25th place car. At the end of the season, the #6 car is a top 10 team. Now the team is in the playoffs with Newman in 2019.
Long story short, Kenseth was more than the 2003 champion, two time Daytona 500 champ, 2000 rookie of the year, etc. etc.
He was a "franchise player" that turned organizations around and made his teammates better. Not a lot of drivers have done that.
One of the worse toupe's though.
You're exactly right. One of the most level headed people in the sport too (for the most part haha)
This is why I love Kenseth...
@@harley-ic6qg lol
@@bentheswitchsportsfan06 What his Toupe?
I always look forward to new "Coffee with Kyle" segments, keep them coming! 😎 👍 🏎
One thing I’ve always appreciated about Matt Kenneth is his judicious employment of both frankness and diplomacy - a rare quality - to go with a great sense of humor. Not too bad behind the wheel either...
One of the most underrated drivers of all time in my opinion. One of the probably 5 best for a decade + and rarely gets mentioned in the hall of famer discussions.
Attaboy to Matt. His career, his perspective on life........ well done.
Matt is the David Pearson of our time. Awesome interview
What a great complement.
@Jack Wells Yeah, more consistent.
World class ability. Not a driver in his day had car control like him. His save at Daytona summer 2010 was best I have ever seen. It’s on TH-cam
Most down to earth classiest guy to ever race a car. Great guy n great driver. Kudos Matt!
I can seriously say Matt Kenseth was always a racer I had no problem with. Great driver and was always in the running to win. He is one of those drivers that maybe not talked about that often but was one of the better drivers in the sport. It is cool that he is retiring to spend time with family.
Great conversation between great racers, awesome.
Matt kenseth is and will always be my favorite driver!
Wish you were still racing MATT 👍👍🏁🏁 !
Kyle Petty is a great interviewer. A guy who's lived it knows how to talk to the guy who lives it!
Sorry to be offtopic but does anyone know a trick to log back into an instagram account??

Thanks so much you really help me out !
@Hendrix Roger glad I could help =)
I haven't seen a boring coffee with kyle yet ... mr petty please keep em coming
Humbly honest kind man that's what I call a gentleman.
I’ve never had a problem watching him win, but after seeing this I’m a late to the party fan! Humble dude
grew up a Gordon fan and over time became a fan of Kenseth he needs to be back in cup.
Tony Tornado Kenseth was my Ford guy. I was a hardcore Jeff fan, but I love Ford, so I looked for guys like him to pull for. Haha
I miss Matt Kenseth on track.
God I miss Matt being at the track every weekend.
so do i Matt had class
That's how I feel about Mark Martin. Tons of respect for Matt.
Absolutley, he can still win when it counts. I haven't watched a nascar race since they did him wrong.
He’s back in nascar he will be in the 42 car replacing Kyle Larson.
Just a fantastic interview. Thank you so much Kyle for your series. I enjoy them tremendously!
I really enjoy these interviews. It’s so insightful when a driver interviews a driver because they know what questions to ask. Kyle is really great at this. Matt is an incredible person for sure
Matt is such a class act and I really miss him at the track each week. Kyle, love, love your in-depth interviews with the drivers, crew chiefs, etc. ok, you’ll mentioned Jimmy Fennig - he’s one you should have on your show sometime.
Those were definitely jabs thrown at Brian France. Lol
Yep!
jason wiggins yes and should be he has screwed nascar up.
Excellent interview. Matt is truly a good guy.
Matt is just a class act...amazing driver and competitor
Kyle and Matt are 2 of my favorite people in nascar. ....could listen to these 2 talk about racing all day. Really miss matt on the track
I really like Matt! He's always done the best he could do with whatever he had!
Always liked Matt.. I had several teamates in sports that were quiet guys.. Guys you would not expect to be competitive, Who really dialed it up and were leaders/outstanding performers at game time. Matt always impressed me as a similar competitor. I always enjoyed his consistency and workman like efforts. Great guy and Great Ambassador for NASCAR.
I can't believe they didn't talk about Matt dumping Logano-the loudest applause I think I've ever heard at a NASCAR event. Matt must have called it off limits, because he is a class act. I was thrilled to be at Daytona for his second win there. Awesome time....
One of my favorite drivers
1 and only😎🤙🏁
Always a Matt Kenseth fan. Good human being!
Very interesting series and really enjoyed Kyle's questions and Matt answers. Looking forward to more.
I really enjoy this pod cast
Another awesome video Kyle I've always loved Matt and his style of racing always keep it clean very respectful of others.
Love these interviews Kyle.. Great job
Excellent job as always. Thank you!
The Best Driver out of Wisconsin. I watched him at Slinger. He was a David Pearson and should be proud King Richard said that. The top ten of all Nascar Drivers by far.
Watched him at Madison Int and Slinger
To be honest, I never expected Matt to ever talk to Kyle Petty very nicely after what Petty said about him on national television. Shows that time heals most wounds. But, even more surprised that they never brought up a certain incident. LOL
I love these interviews with drivers I grew up with. I would like Kyle to interview drivers like Terry & Bobby Labonte, Dave Marcis, Lake Speed, Hut Stricklin, Ward Burton, Ken Schrader...the list just goes on and on!
Hut Strickland dude was my favorite driver before Matt kenseth
Columbus 151 Speedway Wednesday night open test was the best deal in Wisconsin racing, $10 and run the wheels off the car 5pm till dark. The Moore family that ran the track were a class act. Like Matt I sure miss that track.Columbus 151
Speedway Wednsday
Very nice piece. Way to go Matt. 👍
Another great coffee with Kyle interview! I'm a Ford man and held a little grudge against Matt for going to Gibbs but he did what he felt he had to. Hindsight is 20/20 and he's a great racer no matter the car and this interview proves his personality matches old school drivers if not exceeds some
I used to watch Matt race at 151 and Jefferson.
*Eric Estepp has entered the chat*
LMAO
Most likely
A real class act!
Kenseth = Class act 100%.
Great interview with Matt. He was always a class act. He was very talented. I was a big fan of him. He would always be there at the end of the race. Thanks Kyle
Great interview. I like Matt but I can't believe a certain incident was not mentioned. Always loved Dale Jr.'s quote" You don't want to make Matt mad".
Because that was the reason joe gibbs didnt renew his contract.
Driving somebody into the wall full throttle nobody wanted to renew sponsership
@@Grizz270 That's not why Kenseth was let go. Sponsorship had already dried up before that incident.
I'll never forget that day. I was at martinsville for that race.
If that was the case KB would have been gone years ago
Matt is easily one of the best drivers of his generation, and I'm not just saying that because he's a fellow Dane County native. Maybe he'll pop up at Madison again someday...
Great interview, Kyle did a nice laid back interview of a great driver, with so many drivers of his talent gone no wonder the stand have so many empty seats.
Excellent interview guys :) !!!
Excellent interview!!!!
I’m not really surprised at how good Kyle is at this, considering he grew up in the spotlight, but he’s such a likable guy, so low-key, so personable. And who could possibly know more about the ins and outs of NASCAR than Kyle? I hope he keeps doing this for a long time because he’s perfect for the podcast format’s informality.
2020 and the 42, time to win some more races Matt
I follow nascar since 1968 when I was 10 years old
Mark Martin and Matt kennseth are my 2 favorite drivers of all times
Drag race engine guy saves his career. I had the same deal pretty much. We found a drag race builder who was interested in what we had going on, made us the same deal and we only paid for parts. Those guys sure know how to make power.
Another great chat... still really digging these !
A true gentleman.
that was just a GREAT interview 👍
Thanks for the interview
Another great interview... thanks
The intro is so wholesome
I was such an avid fan of NASCAR. Particularly, Mark, Matt, & Carl! Today I couldn’t match a name with a number.
Can read between the lines and tell how these guys feel about the "playoffs"
Thanks for interview
always fantastic interviews respect Kyle
I was fortunate enough to be at both Jr's and Kenseth's 1st Cup wins in 2000.
Really wish 151 Speedway was still around...
always a great job kyle ! these show are the best , thank you
14:08
Hmm one guy looks really familiar
Matt is a family man first and formost
Absolutley miss the guy man, I can't stand to not see him still out there winning until he's done breathing Love ya Matt always my favorite!!!🏁🏁🏁
I love these
He drove the heck out of that 6 car
14:05 well said Matt
I watched him win the 94 miller lite nation als at Madison. He was 19 and beat like Ken Schraeder and other guys. I was only 7 but I remember how big that was
Cambridge proud baby. Hometown hero! Matt the Brat! Ask him about that nickname lol. Hey Matt tell Katie Kat I said hi. I was one of the only people that could call her that without her getting mad lol
yay hi to Matt Kenseth
Eric Estepp is very happy rn
NASCAR needs to go back to the old roots of how it use to be and see if they can catch lightening in a bottle again , go back to the old track the abandoned , like Rockingham , wilksboro , old points system , bring all that back , but man old man they were once so huge , the great Drivers they had were the best , really miss the old days . I use to set in front of a old tube victor radio with a big dial and try to find the races on , couldn’t find them on tv back then and I would listen to Petty wining all the time , I was a Bobby Issac fan , miss those days !!!!!
He entered Nascar the old school way, so cool.
kenseth was my driver and I wish he still was out there kicking there asses. this is why the sport is suffering so much. we need some new blood once in a while but not a complete overhaul each year.
Man I feel for athletes because by the time they are 40 something they have to hang it up that's got to be hard I really do feel for them.
Can y’all interview Ricky Rudd
I upvote/support this. Get him here or get him on Dale Jr. download or get on him Waltrip Unfiltered but get him somewhere.
The Rooster
I’ll co-sign on this
I see Matt wore his finest hair piece to the interview :D
Yep
Plenty of fun tracks in SE Wisconsin.
I really like these.
Interview Carl!
That 88 in the beginning is a beautiful car, just saying
I'm so glad Kyle didn't ask Matt about Joey!
And right there Matt said what the problem is with Nascar today he said (it was just part of business) until that changes expect Nascar to shrink back to the size it was in the late 70 or 80 and don't worry it will be a good thing for the quality of racing and fro the fans. Now they will be some teams and tracks disappear but it's all part of it.
The year before Kenseth was Champion, he won the most races but finished sixth in points.
Matt finished between 2nd and 7th in the standings every year with Gibbs--except for the year got suspended for taking out Logano (he had won 5 races that year). Gibbs replaced him with Erik Jones--who never finished higher than 15th in the standings with Gibbs.
How is this guy not in a cup car?
He said why at the end
No disrespect to Matt. He looks like he's not been working out. Staying up in shape. If he is, i don't mean that wrong. Looks like he's just relaxed and living life with his family.
@@phillips5368 He will be running the berlin marathon in a couple of weeks. Look for him to run 7 minute miles. I wouldn't say he is out of shape..
My uncle bought Roy's car one year.
Matt should have been given the 41 ride.
