Before i retired i bought my dream truck with my fifth cat motor, but it was my first emissions engine. It struck fear into my heart every time the check engine light came on, knowing i was on borrowed time. Once in the middle of Dallas, Texas the mechanic told me i only had 3 minutes before shutdown. Prior to that i ran three 3406’s over a million flawless miles each with only normal regular maintenance. Love watching your channel and dirt perfect.
When I sold mine in ‘19 it was an ‘07 with an ‘06 C15 Acert pre def, with1,128,000 miles we’d never been inside the engine. Used a gallon of oil after 8,000 miles on the service. I liked it, 13 speed transmission it was good to go.
I looked at that neatly dug borrow pit and thought, smoothed out a bit and lined with PVC, there would be a handy back-up reservoir for use against a very un-rainy day. Time may come when every drop of available water will be a boon thankfully used, disrupted weather patterns being what they are.
Tremendous progress on project, even with throwing a code. Shaping up so well, beautiful setting for a homestead! God's blessings and pray equipment hangs tight!
Hi, my experience with DEF rigs is that the nozzles cake up and clog causing the code. Clean your nozzle tip unless still under warranty, and then they can clean or replace. Good luck.
As a casual observer the reason the sheeps foot compactor cannot compact anymore is because the roller is choked with clay, when I saw it in the last video it appears the scraper blades are worn or need adjusting because they are not clearing the residual dirt, love your channel, your work ethic and general overal profesionalism.
The county i lived in prior to this place was known for rock. Every late spring i hired my son and his friends to pick up all the rocks in the area i mowed, 1.5 plus acres. They would literally fill up a wheelbarrow with rocks. I always joked about my ability to grow a nice crop of rocks every year. When i was building him a 20×50 play ground (known as the Taj Mahal) i wanted to dig down about 6" and fill it with mulch. Just digging all the post holes for all the structures was a pain.
Yeah Chris I kind of wondered why you was buying the older equipment now I understand so it's sometimes older machines to the rescue and I got to looking at the whole that is a mighty big hole in the ground I just didn't realize how deep until you started pushing the dirt in
That is one tidy pad for the house and is sitting in a lovely spot ! I take it if I have my bearings right that the house will overlook the new pond as well ?
The older equipment is going to start going up in price because of the down time caused by emissions regulations and the technology involved, to bad, some of the new equipment sure is nice. The pad looks awesome sir, stay the course, you will win. Thanks for the update.
Pre emissions equipment has been going up since all this crap started. And it just keeps climbing. No end in sight. Already paying as much and sometimes more for older hood equipment than it cost new.
It's been going up in price for quite a while. I have a 1998 Peterbilt with a big Cat engine that I bought in 2011 and came with new tires for $16,500 and I had several guy's last year offer me anywhere from $55,000 to $67,000. I was tempted to sell but then thought about how much it'd cost me to replace it and even then I wouldn't know how good or reliable the replacement truck would be. So I'm keeping it and will probably be the last truck I buy.
That's one hell of what you call a borrow pit,in English! English the word borrow means you have to give back! what you gonna fill that little Grand Canyon with, only a question from a retired English man living in Italy Still can't sleep until I've seen your daily video .many thanks for entertainment!!
Good morning LetsDig18. Pity about the dozer but as you say the pre emissions machines are the ones to have at hand. The borrow pit is going to take a bit of filling although given time and your ingenuity there will be little trace of it left :)
Chris your lucky that N Carolina has so much clean Fill in dirt that you can use when needed and have a nice day Sir. You also laid a clean neat house foundation as usual.
Hurts to see that top soil buried so deep after spending years to build a few inches on a house lot, but hauling costs what they are I get it. Looking good Chris.
as Chris said, 'just sandy dirt, a few inches deep'! Good enough for light cropping, but not good enough for an English lawn. Anyway, he saved all the good stuff at the back of the pad. 🙂 + look at all the 'dirt' he has to remove from the lake ...
Aye but needs must I guess. That sandy topsoil's only kept intact by plenty of added organic matter, so not the best. Now if you could mix it 50/50 with the clay...
Remember when you were working the controls by hand on your excavator and sitting on a sandbags and the markings on the side said Tonka, those were the days.
Just think, a bit closer to the house, a bit of trimming, some trenching for piping and a heap of spray-crete, you would have nice swimming pool from the borrow pit.
That borrow pic looks like a nice small pond if one could get water to it. It's to bad about top soil not being used in the field or someplace growing stuff.
Our def sensors would go out at work on our rollers and paver at work it's so corrosive they figured out if we just filled them at end of everyday instead of letting it go till it was low saved a lot headaches of kept deff from crystlizing and fucking up the sensor
Turned out Great Chris !! That sucks damn machines keeps throwing codes, puts a dent in the whole day !! But, you have back- ups to get it finished on up so, no problem there anyway...lolol... Hell, I done forgot about knocking that ridge off, should get enough to fill the borrow pit back up, if not I'm sure there will be more around there somewhere you can throw in it...lolol... Great as always Man !! Have a Great Weekend, and Evening !! And, On too the Next !!
1:40.., if you press the dirt down Chris you could maybe get 2 more scoops in the bed of the truck?.., Desmond Doss (Hacksaw Ridge).., gimmi one more lawd.., just gimmi one more!
Ref the dozer issues, did it ever cross your mind that Komatsu put something in their system that periodically malfunctions forcing you go go spend your hard earned $$$ to their company?.., that some Komatsu wizard comes onsite, waives his magic spanner and thats you all good for another 3 months.., seems abit like a scam to me.
The pond, barn and house will all be a part of this big project .I would like to see a video of it when it's all finished. Having a house and barn and a new pond would really be a nice after the fact video.
Those Komatsu dozers are the bees knees, so operator friendly and so easy to see out of. I’ll be glad when the equipment companies get these emissions systems figured out and perfected. There’s entirely too much downtime right now.
chris you have one of the best channels on this platform you mite not have the biggest channel but its a great one and you are such a great digger operator
Better put in a dran pipe for that hole, any fill dirt will turn to mush as the clay wii hold moisture. Any equipt that drives over it will sink. Chris wiil have to dit em out. More vids for us to watch..😂
I want to thank you for taking time out of your day to film what you do there's nothing more enjoyable than to watch someone tried to change Mother Nature one day I hope you respond back by telling me what you have found good things and bad things🎉😊😊😊😊
New equipment seems to go down more frequently than the older. My 988 Cat was a very nice piece of equipment. Great anger management tool. Rock Quarry Beast.
i dont know how you do it .every year things go down for the same thing def system.i would be on the phone with clint telling him to keep an eye out for one of low hour dozers without all that garbage.
How come you don’t have a blade on the backside of the dozer with a 360’ swivel seat, you could increase production at least 30% and save as much in fuel.
Hey Chris! Did you know if frogs had wings they wouldn't bump their butts when they jumped 🙂 Love the Channel, love the content! If it has Tracks or tires it gets expensive!

I have hated DEF since it came out, so I'm glad I don't drive trucks anymore. Seems to kill fuel pumps.

You have picked the best of both worlds in the digging industry my friend… get to do a lot of clearing, and a lot of dirt work. Got the life🤘
Enjoyed this video! Especially filling in the borrowed pit! ❤❤❤
Excellent job Chris looks like you know what your doing .
Here in Illinois contractors will screen and sell access topsoil.
In Ohio as well!

that is one big borrow pit! put a good thick layer of gunnite and that would be a great pool!
Thanks Chris for a day in making a barn pad and the things that happen owning equipment!!👍👍
That was a whole lot of dirt hauled out . And a whole lot has to be hauled in to fill that massive hole
It's been really nice seeing you in the videos again, Todd.

There's just something so therapeutic about watching dirt waterfall.
There’s a lot to be said about something that uses diesel, the air we breath and compression to run. Way less complicated.
... a little cement and you could make a hell of a lap swimming pool! Add a few bass and you'd have some competition 😉

We used have a lot of problems with DEF on a Case Cx130D so we got it tuned out of the machine. Saves a lot of headaches and money lol

Thank you and have a great day.

Another day, another equipment glitch! Part of being an owner operator. Another great video Chris! Take care and God Bless!!!😊
Looking good 👍
That's quite an in-ground swimming pool, there, Chris!
You don't realize how big a hole the 220 can make till you watch the "tiny" dozer push dirt into it.
Did I notice a thunder creek trailer with letsdig in big letters written on the sides attached to your new ford truck at 24:56.

In a few years all of the roots that you see in the dirt will compost into even better top soil.
It is just dirt. Stored in the ground pit for when it may be needed sometime in the future.
Don't pack it down good place for a root vegetable garden???
Didn't appreciate how deep the pit was until the view with the dozer made it clearer :-)
I thought the same thing...
Looks like you got the makings of a nice swimming pool there.

You could suggest turning the borrow pit into a swimming pool. Saves filling it in then 🎉

or a bomb shelter, tornado shelter, possibly a man cave.

It's interesting how important Barney is to these projects. He's kinda of the central player.
