    Hi, Thank you for this video. I recieved my P2 a few days ago along with the RA2, followed your instructions and the tumbler came out perfectly. The only thing I was not sure about is how you determined 14mm distance from laser to tumbler.

    Awesome video, I'm new to my P2 and learning every time I use it.. I learned a lot with your video but still have a question... the measurement of the DISTANCE ?!?! How did you do it?😅

    • @LastLegWoodworks

      On this project I used the automatic distance measurement that the P2 designated. It uses the red laser pointer to measure distance to the work surface.

    • @simonbrooke639

      If I’m doing glass and I don’t want to mask it, I can’t use automatic measurement, so what does this distance refer to? I’m guessing it refers to height above the top of the slats (when fitted). Maybe a future enhancement but shouldn’t the auto measure feature work the highest point for itself, given an approximate starting rectangle?

    When doing a longer name on the Tumbler, do you continue reducing by the .8mm or is there a stopping point?

    • @LastLegWoodworks

      Hello, If the entire part of the tumbler that will be engraved is tapered then yes. If the taper were to stop before the end of your engraving then the letters wouldn’t need to be changed after that point. Hope that helps.

    question I do my tumblers using the rollers. in the xtool software you have to put the laser on the highest point of the cup. Then in the software you have to place the green line in the center as well. This making you line up the design to the edge of the green line in the software. If I want to line up to an existing logo on the cup this makes it not very easy. Am I doing something wrong. Due to not lining up to center of the design this makes it hard to do.

    • @LastLegWoodworks

      Right. I know what you mean. I've had to use some trial and error a bit on some projects to get things exactly where I want them. I hope xTool changes that process.

      Correct, all depends on size and detail. I just did a 40mm by 20mm logo on a cup with my P2 and it took 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

    My RA2 pro doesn't have the aviator connection for the P2. Do you mind doing a conductance check and posting the pinout that the cable has? I have some aviator connectors and some stepper wires and can make my own, but rather not trial and error my connection.

      Try this link. Note the orientation of the rectangular plug with the two tabs, and the round plug with the indentation at the bottom. Also the rectangular plug only uses 4 of the 6 spaces. Hope this helps!

    the rotary tool fits in without the riser?

    • @petergamache5368

      Just measured it on my own P2... This works without a riser base but is limited to the smallest diameter (A) roller setting. You cannot use the chuck or any other RA2 accessories. To do this, remove enough slats to place the roller base in the tray, which puts the top of the rollers at about the same height as the slats. This lets you engrave round items (pencils, pens, dowels) up to about an inch in diameter.

    So how do you calculate the reduction for letters? cause cups come in different. Thanks in advance

    • @LastLegWoodworks

      Well I found out by making the mistake of not making any adjustments for my first one. I noticed the letters gradually changed as they travelled up the tumbler. I just measured the difference between the first letter and the last letter and divided that amount between the total number of letters. I’m sure there is some mathematical way that is beyond me to figure that out, but I did it the hard way😊

  • @jeffcollingsworth3332

    😞 Promo SM

  • @jppalm3944

    So 20 tumblers, 20 different names, you have to adjust letters of every name. Nah

    • @dillonohrt1903

      The only time I’ve ever adjusted was for circular shapes, never had an issue or complaints about “misshapen” letters. Agree, this is a miss by the TH-camr

    • @JayBates

      Only if the letters are in the vertical orientation. If you have them below the design it's not a concern.

    • @LastLegWoodworks

      Its not a circular shape that causes the issue, its the conical shape of the tumbler. With the letters running along the length of a tapered tumbler. (as in this video) You tell the rotary tool what the circumference of your tumbler is, but its only that circumference at one spot. Along the taper it changes. So if you want say, 14mm tall letters, the rotary tool is rotating a certain amount to result in that 14mm letter. But if the circumference is larger than the measurement that you entered, then more surface area will pass under the laser tip, causing the resulting letter to be taller, and if its smaller, then less will pass under resulting in a shorter letter.
      I didnt realize this until I had engraved a tumbler with all the letters at the same height and the letters gradually got larger as the moved up the taper on the tumbler.
