I'm in some weird way so proud of Judd for not only bringing us movies we wouldn't otherwise see but for being such a straight up, straight forward good guy. What a great conversation with a great group of individuals.
You probably dont give a damn but does anyone know of a trick to get back into an instagram account?? I was dumb lost my account password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
For reasons of balance there's always one older heavy hitter in the room such as Ridley Scott, Jeff Bridges, Annette Benning, Oliver Stone, Michael Caine, Jeffrey Tabor or Sting . Now the overall outcome of hearing wise ways or otherwise the opposite with a distinguished dog learning new tricks. Iregardless and actually irrelevant to which way the sway may go both become equally interesting and just love the fact this formula is used.
Yeah man, that’s the dream. To be rich enough to have your own studio, and then you just throw money at your favorite filmmakers and let them make they want.
That's what the elite do. Come into the public and say sound-bytes to make themselves seem as part of the general crowd and non-establishment. Then they go back into their offices and do the same shit over and over again.
1:01:28 "You always have a choice between your ambition and your ego. And you have to be very clear which one you're choosing all the time. Because, it’s really hard not to choose your ego. But it doesn’t work." --Brilliant!!
very great work by the interviewer to lead the conversation instead of forcing it. once a great conversation you shouldn't suppress it but lead it in certain ways. it's not about the interviewer, but about the people you wanna hear talk. work well done.
This was surprisingly the best roundtable! Their is more insight and experience in this table than any of the actors and directors table. Everyone had valid points, I dont agree with Ridley when it comes to criticism. Journalist do have a duty of reporting but it shouldn't be an attack on someone. When creating art, it can be taken personal if not understood. But in the end Hollywood is a business. If the audience doesn't understand your art, then you can't blame journalists or audiences who voice their critiques. The first Blade Runner was very specific and audiences were split. Even Blade Runner 2049 didn't do well and that was a beautiful movie. Hollywood thrives on 50% creativity but also 50% business savinness.
Speaking to Eric Fellner's point about the cruciality of a film's final moments: The last five minutes of BLADE RUNNER 2049 are something to behold--a true visual masterwork, and one of my favourite endings to any film in years.
I love this moderator, he allows the conversation to evolve and go into interesting places. These roundtables are so intriguing, as they allow the viewer to kind of see the BTS of movie making and the way the industry communicates internally.
I'm an architect, and its funny watching all these round tables. The directors are like architects, the producers are developers, and the actors are craftsmen
These producers need to get together and make a movie about Judd Apatow unplugging from the Bill Cosby matrix he can't do ONE fucking interview without name dropping Cosby it's almost like a deflection technique at this point lol.
I still dont know how Jason Blum could still be making movies with that budget.. Im inspired by that mindset of keeping the cost low especially when we're starting out
HEY HOLLYWOOD REPORTER!! THIS IS WHAT A GOOD PANEL HOST LOOKS LIKE. KEEP THIS GUY. USE HIM FOR ALL FUTURE ROUNDTABLES AND GET RID OF THAT AWFUL HACKJOB YOU USE ON THE OTHER VIDEOS. WE ALL HATE THE OTHER GUY.
I was delighted and surprised to hear goofball Seth Rogen offer perfectly relevant-to-me insightful advice about changing your mindset to live in a competitive world.
It’s weird how producers seem to be more fluent and elegant than actors on the round table. Although I could listen to Michael Cain and Jeff bridges for hours
hey gosh, I just love the camaraderie on this round table especially the fact that Amy Pascal has worked with every single person here being that she was the head of Sony pictures entertainment for a very long time
Jason Blum and Blumhouse make for the most part horror with a very tight crew, production and scope, Get Out takes place in one place primarily and that place is isolated, same goes for their other movies. Ridley Scott have made big production movies since the 80's and he himself says in this video that none of his movies have passed a budget of a $106million(can say that Prometheus is reportedly $130million, though he says $100m in this video, possibly marketing added $30m), but the rest is around or under the $100million mark. No one could make Alien Covenant for a low budget, given the amount of practical effects, locations and sets that Ridley Scott uses, same goes for Prometheus, The Martian, Gladiator etc... Big scale movies needs a high budget. Also Blade Runner 2049, which he produced, it had a $150million budget and it was because of all the practical sets and practical effects had to be built for the film to match the scale and the feel of the original movie.
For those wondering, Amy Pascal is the former co chairman of Sony whose emails leaked about her wondering if obama liked 12 years a slave or Think like a man, or Django.
At 8:30 we get a shot of the host, either thinking to himself "Man I really got a conversation started here. I'm the man." or "Did I leave the iron on?" Hard to tell which.
Get Out was a unicorn. The Black Phone just cost $16 Mil to make and that's with the director and Ethan Hawke agreeing to get paid on the back end. Jordan Poole's latest movie, Nope cost $70 million to make. You can't make Aliens, Blade Runner, Gladiator or The Martian for $5 mil.
If you want insiders knowledge than David heyman who produced Harry potter and Paddington as well as the new tarantino film will tell all as no one knows about him.
...have to say it, why did Judd find it necessary to bridge the discussion from Harvey to Bill....There is absolutely no distinction between the despicable acts of the two, but....the question was about Harvey. Just a question, interested to see the answers. This is a wonderful round table by the way
6:30 After just seeing FastX at my local theater, I was bummed out. The picture quality, and sound were less than what I have at home. We would have waited to watch it at home, but had free movie tickets. This experience reenforced my decision to wait to watch John wick on proper UHD Blu-ray. It would be nice to have to option to download a "non-compressed" version of the movie too. With how big games are, people would be willing to wait for a large download to complete for proper picture quality. TH-cam compression is fine most of the time, but not for a "Cinema night."
Well, it's a visually awesome, great acted, lovecraftian space thriller. His biggest mistake was to make all the "Alien" bonds. He should have known, that all the nerds would rather see the same thing for the fifth time than anything creative.
Roland Deschain He specifically stated before Prometheus that he didn't want to use the Alien because in his own words "it was cooked" yet he then listens to the fans and the movie studio by putting the Aliens extensively in Convenant perhaps it was a studio decision and he had his hands tied but I doubt it why go to all the trouble of making two different varieties. He did the one thing he said he disliked in this roundtable. I bet the other directors knew but they didn't have the balls to call him out on it.
Everybody in this room is a fucking hypocrite. The whole group is talking about how hard it is to make movies with big studios in front of Amy Pascal who ran Sony pictures into the ground from 2006 to 2016 and got fired for acting like a racist moron in her email correspondence. During that time, Sony pictures has been making dreadful, lowest common denominator garbage, it’s just gross the kind of films they turn out and the head of the ex head studio is sitting right there.
Wow a lot of these comments are super negative… But as much as I love Judd and I am a huge fan I would have to agree that he does talk about Cosby a lot and is always always always on his soapbox on Twitter like I can’t even follow him because I don’t need politics in my life that much he’s borderline obsessed
53:59 Judd is great. I wish Jason had spoke up more about his time working for Harvey. It would be hard to. I'm a huge fan of Blum as a producer and don't want to see him dragged down by association.

Interesting that these guys are sad that not as many people go to the cinema to watch films anymore. Thus, I now prefer to watch films at home on my big screen with a decent sound system played at a volume that doesn't make me feel like a prisoner of war being psychologically tortured. I love the film 'Alien', but would probably hate to see it in a cinema, purely because I know the extreme volume and distorted rumbling would completely ruin the experience for me. I'm sure some people would disagree with me on this, but I know for a fact that I'm not the only one who feels this way. And I'm surprised that this issue is so rarely discussed in the industry.

I like how Riddley Scott is just talking casually with the rest of them, this dude is a legend,he's made some amazing films
amazing films and the martian
Seth rogan looks like he smoked a joint before this and just realised he’s sat next to Riddley Scott 😅
Not in the passed 20 years

Ridley Scott sitting next to Seth Rogan talking about filmmaking is something I never thought I'd see. Love it.
Now these are some smart insightful conversations into the complicated world of film-making. Loved it!
“We live in a very politically charged time”
Seth Rogen: “oh we’re jumping straight into that huh”
I laughed so hard at this comment its so true xD

I really wish they had Kevin Feige on here. It would be fun to see what other producers think about the Marvel machine.
Captain Chev Your wish came true.
@lilmil YOUR WISH CAME TRUE

Hopefully they’d rip him a new one
Jason Blum had several fascinating tangents. I never knew the guy was so involved.
I wish I was a billionaire, I'd just waste it all giving it to great filmmakers and just let them make whatever the fuck they want
Red-Son I wish you were a billionaire too.
I wish the same...
The fact that people are thinking that way is great...
I would give David Fincher 10 Billion and give him time to just take us wherever his mind takes him.

So awkward when they were discussing Get Out. Amy had to try so hard to keep from joking "Ill bet Obama loved that movie."
