  • This is a 20m vertical antenna with a parasitic reflector, and results show a 2 S point gain and a good front to back ratio.
The reflector is NOT connected to anything, except some radials.

Nice comparison. I am going to try this arrangement out. I have a small garden so I think it will work well for me.

That's brilliant Brian. Having that coil switch in and out gives you the confidence its working. You must be in a good location as I here very little OC from my QTH. I may try this method some time and full credit to yourself. 2 s points is 12db in a Kenwood so pretty good.

Cheers don't forget different ants work differently in different locations. 73.

What i never get about parasitics, is how to lay out the radials so the radials from the parasitc to interfere with the raidals from the driven element. Then? I start thinking about half squares to achieve directionality instead. Then? I think about a larger half square behind it, and a smaller one in front. All the Best! 73 DE W8LV BILL (W8LV/VE3 prepandemic.)

Hi Brian, you mention a previous video on the 2 element parasitic but I can't find that video? Comment on your coil F/B results: very conclusive however to see if it switches direction it'd be great if you took signals from the opposite direction to show them stronger there (e.g. from VK). How do we know the comparison of one vertical on its own vs with the reflector? It could be the results showing without attenuation, then with attenuation of parasitic, though I doubt it, it seems likely this is working very well as intended. Just recently we were discussing whether a 1/4 GP can be used in this manner, as we could not find any literature other than phased verticals fed and need to be a whopping half wave apart. For vertical dipoles (or EFHW which could also be fed at bottom with unun) there's plenty literature. Coincidentally I came across your video here and it does seem to show great improvements also for a 1/4 GP!
