For me, it wasn't the scene of Nick 'killing' Judy that was boarderline traumatizing. It was the scene with the muzzle. Because you can see how badly it affects Nick, even decades later. It shaped his entire world view: that no one can be trusted, because no one would ever see him as anything more than a untrustworthy fox. The cinematography, the dark lighting, and the quick movements as the muzzle is shoved onto Nick's face...it's a great scene, but it's also one of, if not THE darkest scenes in the movie.

Maybe I've learned all the wrong lessons in life, because my viewpoint is that nobody cares about your dreams, and that you should rely on yourself more than you do on others. And my childhood was kinda like Nick's; absolutely nobody ever liked me, and I didn't even have to be a Fox for that. Hell, I wasn't even any kind of ethnic minority. Maybe it was because of my Asperger's? Either way, sometimes you're better off being self-reliant is what I'm saying. And if you HAVE to rely on others, make sure it's someone who's actually compassionate about your goals, and doesn't just pretend to.

Sounds like Otterton figured out (at least some of) what was going on, which unfortunately immediately made him a target. He was darted, realized his mind was slipping away, and only had a few seconds left to get some sort of message out before going feral, so he picked the flower's colloquial name, hoping it would be memorable enough to be passed on to someone who could help. It’s honestly really sad because it applies to the real world all the time. For example, companies that produce/mine oil, landfill/incinerator companies, gas station companies, and car companies don’t really care about climate change, all they care about is the money they get from using gasoline/oil/fire/leaving trash to rot, and using renewable energy seems to be just too much for them.
(Obviously it’s near impossible to just stop climate change, because humanity depends on electricity, cars, etc. Until products using renewable energy like Teslas, wind/water turbines, and solar panels are more affordable to the general public and are more efficient than fossil fuels, companies would probably invest in that instead. Or if the governments of the world make laws to slow down climate change. Or if people’s voices are loud enough, we might be able to change the world.)

I think having the predator/prey stereotypes not line up one to one with real world racial stereotypes is a fantastic choice because it lets people learn the lessons the film is teaching in something of a vacuum, and then apply the lesson to the real world, rather then feeling like it's preaching a particular position beyond "stereotypes are bad". If the film was explicitly about gender discrimination, or sexual discrimination, or race discrimination, I feel like it would turn a lot of people off and make them not really want to watch the film because it would come across as too much of a lecture. This feels more like an abstract case study.
I also love the fact that Judy is both discriminated against AND has her own prejudices and biases, because in the real world this happens a lot! It is entirely possible to be the victim or subject of discrimination while holding your own prejudices, and learning to recognise the ones you may unknowingly carry is a very important lesson, especially when you may be used to looking at yourself exclusively as a victim of discrimination rather then as a perpetrator.
Also Nnick and Judy are adorable. God I love this film.

Because he's the one that reveals the name Night Howlers, confusing everyone into thinking that it's the wolves and then the later clarification. Since his job revolves around flowers it makes sense that he'd know not only the nickname of this flower, but also that they are the reason he begins to lose control in the limo, hence him shouting it as he goes "savage." Just a nice detail to remove possible plot holes that I appreciate.

    • @SteelyPhil37
      @SteelyPhil37 7 ปีที่แล้ว +39

I did notice and appreciate this plot point. However, Judy correctly identifies Night Howlers by their scientific name and even their regulatory class in the early scene with Bogo, so perhaps the biggest plot hole for me is that she needs her parents and Gideon Grey to tell her the colloquial name for these flowers and that they can cause animals to coke out. This is knowledge that I would expect her to have having grown up on a farm where these plants are used as a warning. Furthermore, she knows Otterton is a florist, so given the intelligence she displays throughout the film, she should have put two-and-two together way earlier and without needing the reminder.
While I'm on the subject of plot holes, there's also the fact that while it's referred to as 'darting', the gun shoots capsules of distilled Night Howler that splatter against the animals' coat. I'm skeptical that the drug could have such a drastic and immediate effect without getting injected directly into the bloodstream, but that aside, it seems unlikely that the scientists under Lionheart wouldn't have noticed the blue residue on at least a few of the predators that went savage and figured it out on their own.
None that really matters, though. I f*cking love this movie and the attention to detail is way higher than that of most other films.

@Voltaic Fire yes, I agree obesity should not be encouraged, and there are seriously better ways for representation. Watch the Regular Show episode where Rigby abuses his body so much because he's "perfect as he is" that his body completely gives up on him.
It's a perfect example that your body is a temple, and true self love is improving yourself and guiding yourself down the path to become your best self.
Not for others, but yourself. Makeup, workout, fashion. It can make yourself happy if you know you're doing it to feel good.
Can we just have a movie like that please?

Okay, things that I thought should have been given their own individual wins:
    1) How Judy's ears go down as she's humbled and in awe when she first sees the city. Good "sense of scale" moment.
    2) Nick and Judy each have their own personalities and takes on life, but they each have their own kind of "smarts" to them that works well. Not just a "book smarts/street smarts" fashion, but their chemistry helps them overcome their goals.
    3) Little Nick is just super adorable. So sweet!
    4) That flashback to Nick's childhood was way more real than expected. But at the same time, it makes an excellent contrast to what the movie is supposed to be speaking out against. Everyone, no matter who they are, can fall in love with the tiny version of Nick, then feel their hearts ripped out in unison with his when he gets bullied and scarred for life.
    5) Hey, Disney made another feature length animated animal movie. Nice!
    6) A reference to Bruce Lee's famous "slowly building excitement" was used in the final shot of the movie with the sloth.
I can't think of anything else off the top of my head. I've gotta give this film another go!

We're constantly pushed around and made to feel week stupid and inferior because of our culture, like we're all a bunch of uneducated hunters that love hockey and maple syrup that live in cabins and wear plad hats, dennim jackets and snow boots all the time. Or that our military/police are jokes. Or that we all say aboot? Or have a weird accent?

But as it is your words are like a blaster: *So Uncivilized.*

    • @jacobmcneer609
      @jacobmcneer609 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@Ottolineification "get a life." So many things wrong with this one simple phrase that you used. For one thing you are the person responding ten minutes after me, while I am only getting around to you 6 hours later for my 1st comment and 12 hours later for this one. Secondly "get a life" is so overused and cliche (as is saying my mother should have aborted me, for that matter,) that it doesn't faze or offend me in the slightest. On the contrary all it says to me or anyone else who reads your comments is that you lack creativity and have to resort to juvenile, personal, insults instead.
Now on to your "defense" of VIII: all you provided was your own (poorly worded) opinions, in order to convince somebody you must provide facts and explanations. For example: "VIII sucked ass because its central protagonist Rey is a Mary Sue. This is due to the fact that she faces no challenges on her journey that she doesn't easily overcome, everything comes easy to her and she is absolutely perfect in every way and is always right." That is how you make a claim. Next you must provide evidence. "She gained the skills of a Jedi Master in a very short time period. Faced off against Sith lord level threats with very little experience and won handily. It only took her a few hours of nagging to convince a jedi master who had stayed in exile for 30 years to train her and rejoin the fight. She effortlessly flys the Millennium Falcon despite having never piloted anything before leaving Jakku. She effortlessly lifted a ton of boulders with minimal training. In addition she nonchalantly resisted the dark side cave." That is how you do evidence. I backed up my claim with numerous scenes from the movie that supported my interpretation of the character. This gives my claim legitimacy. Next comes reasoning which explains how the evidence supports your claim. For this claim I would use something like this: "These scenes show that Rey is a Mary Sue because despite minimal training in the ways of the Jedi she performs perfectly as a Jedi Master in all aspects, is an excellant pilot the moment she steps into a functioning cockpit despite never flying before. Her persuasion skill is high enough to convince a stubborn old man that he was wrong. In addition to all these extraordinary abilities she has no flaw, no weakness she needs to work through in order to succeed and become a better person. Thus I claim that she is a Mary Sue and her uninteresting character is part of the reason VIII sucks ass."
Now as to me writing like a Jane Austin character, I was and am merely being polite and eloquent, two things the internet drastically needs. If you have an issue with the former I cannot help you, if you have trouble with the latter I suggest either a dictionary or a remedial english class. Actually an english class would solve all your problems with creativity, reasoning, and eloquence. I highly suggest you take one, because right now you are like a blaster: *So Uncivilized.*

you gotta understand how hard and time consuming making high quality
animation is. I'm in a school for animation and i know that making the
models, the rigs, the controls, the expressions the clothing, the
scripting etc( and thats before you even add the fur and high details!)
is very VERY time consuming and requires a lot of practice.
People at Pixar really kick ass every year with these movies and not
only do they have the skills, they have the passion to do it right. the
animators, the riggers, the programmers, the designers for the
environments and the writers, they are one of the most talented people
    in the industry!
Hopefully one day i can be professional enough to be apart of movies
like Zootopia. thats my dream right now and this movie filled me with
more determination to reach for that dream like how Judy did to become
the first bunny cop. Follow your dreams everyone, just be ready to face
    the challenges.

GuywithGreenShades s Ikr, I don't know anything about animation, but I usually like to look at the detail in things and this movie has SOOOOO much detail from every background character to the texture of the plants! Zootopia really nailed it!

the addition of eyebrows for a lot of anthropomorphic characters in animated movies were an easy way to sell the expressiveness of the characters, and i respect the modelers, riggers, and animators who also somehow made the character's movements look like a blend of a human and whatever animal they are. it shows that they put a lot of effort and love into this film.

    More great things about Zootopia:
    1. This Movie Exists.
    2. Judy Hopps is adorable, endearing and TOTALLY BADASS all at once!
    3. Nick may be the stereotypical sly fox, but he does it well.
    4. Judy forcibly takes command of a criminal subway train, crashes it, makes it explode and walks away without any serious injury to herself, Nick or the criminals. Did I mention badass?
    5. This movie could possibly have a level based on it in Kingdom Hearts 3. Close your eyes for a moment and imagine Judy holding a Keyblade over her head with a big smile on her face. Now look me in the eye and try to tell me that didn't make your day.

also i love how the police force is being portrayed somewhat realistic even with the fact that theyre actually wearing situational gear and armor... during the big busts they roll up in heavy vehicles and heavy armor but while going on patrols they keep it lighter with what most likely is a soft bullet proof vest thats more designed to stop lighter grade guns and knives with built in knee and elbow pads to be semi less intimidating and somewhat more agile

I love how far films that are actually mostly made for children go to keep the adults entertained as well. The whole plot has so many satirical hints to the real world, some are even quite serious. Bellwethers plan is basically a fascist way of gaining power. And the godfather reference is absolutely hilarious, as well as the "naturalists" segment. This film is really enjoyable for the whole family and not many achieve that. To be honest there are a lot of proper hollywood blockbusters with more childish humor than Zootopia.
