For days before I had kept pan flute relaxation music going, the type with lovely sounds of nature, water, birds, rustling of leaves. Then I played La Valse D'amelie, then this. So hard to hear without those images being conjured but still so beautiful. I would want this to be one of the last things I heard too.

Having been a dancer I can say it is both. You can put your feet in the right places at the right times and not dance. What they did here is to choreograph a dance to the requirements of foot placement along with showing the spirit of the music. Nice to watch.
Actually there is more to it --- both performers were deaf. The love for each other combined with intricate movement on the keyboard and some basic notes caused their ear drums to resonate at the proper frequency thus causing their brains to rescind the inability to hear. That's Good God Love Inc.!

It would be interesting to put some sort of musical instrument on the floor during a ballet, and having the choreography go along with the music that is being stepped on, making a whole new dimension to dance and music.
I feel the same way! As I watched a different video of them performing this song, I was struck by how they move closer and then farther apart repeatedly at 2:42, and then at the end he moves farther away from where they had both been standing. It adds another layer to the sadness of those parts. And in fact, the notes themselves moving closer and then farther away might explain why those parts sounds sad in the first place. If so, that gives this dance a kind of explanatory power as well.
