@@Rob8729 I know, right? I figure between wrangling Anakin for all those years and then living on Tatoonie with its twin suns and sandstorms it's understandable he looks older than his actual age. Just the Jedi code alone might be stressful enough to bring on the aging.
Sadly, Jake Lloyd who played Anakin in this film was bullied in school after this and quit acting a few years after this film. Additionally he has struggled with his mental health in the past though he is currently doing much better nowadays. The actor who provided the motion capture and voice for Jar Jar, Ahmed Best was also harassed for years after this film and it caused some mental health issues as well. He has also as of the last interviews he did gotten to a better place in his life and actually recently appeared as a Jedi in a Flashback on the Disney plus show the Mandalorian. A role where you can see his face.
@@Fairburne69 Fair point but I don't feel like the backlash is on the actors so much as on Disney itself. They shat the bed with the sequels. It really seems like the actors themselves weren't happy with what they had to do.
Did you spot Keira Knightly? She plays Queen Amidala's decoy double, and sometimes played the real queen in wide-shots when Natalie Portman wanted to go home.
Coby Actor, who portrays Darth Maul is Ray Park. Ray Park is actually stuntman, actor, and martial artist. He has portrayed other characters besides Darth Maul such as Toad from 2000's X-Men and Snake Eyes from GI Joe movies.
He's also the Headless Horseman in Sleepy Hollow (the Tim Burton one) whenever it is headless - hence the two-axe scene. It was actually made at the same UK studio around the same time as The Phantom Menace and also has Ian McDiarmid in it, as he's playing the town's doctor (so Sleepy Hollow has three Sith lords in it - Maul, Ray Park, Sidious, Ian McDiarmid, and Dooku, Christopher Lee who plays an annoyed judge early on).
What will really blow your mind is that quickly after they arrive on Tattoine, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan realize Padme = Queen Amidala. So he teases her a few times, like at the pod race when he says, “The queen trusts my judgement. You should too.”
No, Anakin was actually made by the Force, because he's the chosen one, the one who will destroy the sith as of course he did in "Return of the Jedi" when he threw palpatine down that shaft as Darth Vader.
The Sith master engineered the whole takeover of the Republic by backing both sides and creating a clone army. He could have implanted Anakin's mother without her knowledge, she was an unsophisticated slave. Whether it was an engineered embryo using Cloner technology or his own progeny is unknown, but he certainly took a fatherly interest in Anakin.
The ponytail is a Padawan braid. A Padawan is a Jedi apprentice basically. The braid is a mark of his rank. Once he becomes a Jedi, he will be able to cut it off.
Darth Maul is physically portrayed by Ray Park (Toad in “X-Men (2000)”), and voiced by Peter Serafinowicz (Pete in “Shaun of the Dead”). Sabé, the main decoy for Queen Amidala is portrayed by a 13 year old Keira Knightly in her first major film. Natalie Portman was 17 during filming. Also, Sofia Coppola plays another of the queen’s handmaidens. The story is set 32 years before (32 BBY) the events of “A New Hope” (1 ABY). Obi-Wan is 25 (57 in ANH), Anakin/Vader is 9 (41 in ANH), Padmé/Amidala is 14.
The "rat tail" of Obi Wan shows that he is a padawan learner, an apprentice, not a Jedi Knight yet. The final fight, sounding "Duel of the fates", it´s one of the best in the franchise for me. Legendary.

The body double for the queen was played by Keira Knightley. 25 years later and despite Keira Knightley eventually being significantly taller than Natalie Portman as adults Knightley still occasionally gets confused for Portman by people.

Happy Birthday ! So you were born when Return of the Jedi was still playing in theaters. It came out in '83, but all the Star Wars movies stayed in the cinema for at least a year. Even after the main theaters took them off, they would go to the discount theaters and Midnight showings for a couple of months before they went to video. There's a little Birthday / Star Wars connection for you
Keira Knightly was the stand-in character for Padme, the handmaiden/best friend,..etc in the scenes when Natalie's Padme was the one being addressed as the Queen of Naboo.

The actor who played Anakin Skywalker in Phantom Menace was Jake Lloyd, who previously appears in a few episodes of ER and the movie "Jingle All the Way" which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger. He actually got out of acting some time after Phantom Menace due to some harassment he suffered in school.
I love the fact that you enjoy these movies, the joy is so evident. Oh and well done on getting that the Queen uses a decoy, not all reactions figure that out.
I have the same "May the Forties Be With You" mug! 😄Great reaction Coby as always, young Anakin's (Jake Lloyd's) life sadly went off the rails after this movie. It was a lot bigger surprise when Padme revealed she was using a decoy to most people when episode 1 first came out because at that time Natalie Portman and Kiera Knightley weren't well known famous faces.

I sometimes got him confused with another dwarf actor from the 80s, David Rappaport.
Coby, I love your excitement. I love you are self-confident enough to admit you hadn't seen Star Wars. Did you know that Adam Driver grew up without watching television? One of several seasons why fans dislike Ep.1 was GL's deliberate decision to turn the force, from something the original trilogy depicted as metaphysical, into something scientifically explainable.
I guess that's one reason. Its not high on my list, though. There's way too much bull crap going on long before we get into metachlorians.....or however you spell it.
You can go either way with it, but I choose to believe that Qui-Gon knew about the queen switcharoo and was just messing with her. Like "what you gonna do, reveal yourself to win this argument?"

Happy 40th young lady, and very glad you're enjoying this ONLY SIX part saga. Fun pt1
Thanks, Coby! 🌟 My mother, eldest niece and eldest nephew all love 'Jar Jar'. I love Ahmed Best.
40 is the new cool. Enjoy the next chapters!
37:07 Yes, Warwick Davies, He played Willow, he played Wicket the Ewok, this character is named Weasel... He has been in every single star wars movie since return of the Jedi.
Coby, your facial expressions when Jar Jar has his first few scenes is priceless - bahahahahah
The short guy you were talking about in the podracing scene was Warwick Davis...yes, he was Wicket the Ewok in Return of the Jedi, and Willow Offgood. He was also the Goblin in the last Harry Potter movie, The Deathly Hallows Part 2.
1:56 "ONE OF US! ONE OF US!" 😍🥰
Qui-Gon Jinn's communicator was a Gillette Sensor Lady's razor.
Don’t they make Gillette sensor 🪒 anymore?
@@nathancruz9172 I have no idea. Not being a woman, I wouldn't know.
Besides, I use Harry's.
The Force is Anakin's Father. So, yes, a sort of "Immaculate Conception."
R2-D2 is the GOAT. Nice 4th wall break too.
Coby,
Love you observant you are...the fun details you notice. You ROCK!
🥳 happy belated birthday, coby🥳 may the forties be with you, great gift👍 great reaction as always, thank you😁👍
Episode I Racer is still one of the best racing games ever made. You called it!
36:15 hahaha Qui-gon is calling the queen out there lol he knows who she is and is calling her bluff 😁
"It's Baby Darth Vader! He's SOO cute!"...🤣🤣🤣
The body double for the queen was played by Keira Knightley.
25 years later and despite Keira Knightley eventually being significantly taller than Natalie Portman as adults Knightley still occasionally gets confused for Portman by people.

Coby!! Nice to see you back for some Star Wars and popcorn. Happy 40th birthday young lady! 40's aren't so bad don't worry.
Just finished part one and switching over to part 2 but I like to always say - you're my favorite person to watch movies with. Appreciate the fun attitude and your live observations. Thanks for letting us hang out for these watches!
Happy Birthday, Coby! you don't look a day past 26! I'm only 5 years ahead of you. God bless you! I remember seeing the Phantom Menace in theatres (seven times) back then. Keep up the good work!
I agree happy birthday. I would not have guessed anywhere near that old. I do have a shirt with the same saying as your mug i got a couple years ago though. I think every sw fan gets one at 40 hah
Happy Birthday Coby! We share a birthday and fun fact in case you didn’t know, we share a birthday with the one and only Harrison Ford Han Solo himself
21:02 It’s still difficult to comprehend that this sweet little boy grew up to be the most powerful and feared lord in the whole galaxy. 🤯
Happy birthday Coby! Now that you're 40 maybe you can answer a burning question some of us have had.... what happened to your Australian accent? Love ya! 👍😃
5:35 "Those... light sabers are next level."
Yeah. The only thing the beam/blade of a light saber will _not_ cut through is the beam/blade of another _light_ saber.
I love your reactions, your emotions watching the Star Wars movies, it makes me feel like I'm watching them for the first time also !!!
🎶Vader maybe later, now he's just a small fry!🎶
Oh my, my this here Anakin guy
Maybe Vader someday later, now he's just a small fry
He left his home and kissed his mommy goodbye
Sayin soon I'm gonna be a Jedi!!!
Been waiting for this for freaking WEEKS!
It's pretty sad really and should be a cautionary tale to any young actor about how the press, a fanbase and industry more widely can have a very negative impact on child actors.
Happy Birthday, Coby!! I'm 46, but I look younger also. ❤🎉🎈
i can’t believe you remember the dinosaurs . i loved the baby . :)
I’m a Hebrew Israelite I’ve always wanted to be a Jedi ✌🏽💯☺️
I’ve seen the force in real life and I study the force in real life
I really loved this reaction ❤️💯💯 I loved hearing her talk about Star Wars as the movie plays
Happy birthday Coby!🎈🎉🎂🍰🎊🥳🎁
The actor playing Darth Maul is Ray Park. He also played Toad in the first Xmen movie.
Yes, Coby. Star Wars Jesus. Happy Belated Birthday. 🎉
These 3 films in the late 90s/2000s i really like, they r my fav star wars films by far even tho they get alot of hate... they hav a real deeper meaning/philosophy!
It was a lot bigger surprise when Padme revealed she was using a decoy to most people when episode 1 first came out because at that time Natalie Portman and Kiera Knightley weren't well known famous faces.
I saw this in the theater several times for one reason- I was in love with Natalie Portman.
What a wonderful reaction! The look you had with C-3PO and Anakin are the best. I also love that recognized Warwick Davis right away!
Hope you had a great birthday! I agree you look amazing for 40 😊
She knew the singular of dice is “die.” (small swoon) 😁❤️
Happy birthday, Coby! And welcome back to the Star Wars Universe.
37:08 Good eye! Ashley "Warwick" Davis! Played the "first" Ewok (Wicket W Warrick) in ORTJ and the titular role in the movie Willow. Davis has of course played several small-statured characters in the SWU, and other films. He is also the evil little imp in the Leprechaun horror franchise.
I sometimes got him confused with another dwarf actor from the 80s, David Rappaport.
Happy birthday Coby!
Coby, I love your excitement. I love you are self-confident enough to admit you hadn't seen Star Wars. Did you know that Adam Driver grew up without watching television? I like how you compare the characters to other characters. My daughter would say: "It's the momma!" from Dinosaurs when I came up to her school. FYI, I've never seen BLADE RUNNER. Happy Belated 40th Birthday! 🎂 I collect T-Shirts. My daughter bought me a T-Shirt: "Don't You Wish You Looked This Good At 40". [I'm 75] "May the 40th Be With You" 😂👍🏾--you look GREAT! My kid bought me a T-Shirt that says: "May The Forks Be With You"--2 giant forks on the front. 😅 Did you know that Liam Neeson 🇮🇪💚 was on "Miami Vice"? Kid/I walked around Hollywood with "Miami Mice" T-Shirts.
🔔 COBY @ 36:23 You were right to think it surprising that he wouldn't know. He knew. He was gently, subtly mocking her.
I LOVE the Dinosaurs reference haha. That show was the best. Also Happy Birthday and welcome to the forties club....it sucks lol.
Love the grandma from The Dinosaurs reference! Never thought of that before! Haha
21:09 - Coby: "It's baby Darth Vader!"
Pffthahaha!
I've only just started the video but had to say: the face you made when jar jar started talking in the preview was just so... Unadulterated and made my morning 😂😂
14:30 Fun fact: Amidala's double is played by a young Keira Knightly.
the mr wizard knock off in dinosaurs was the best.... "we need another timmy!"
Coby, you have seen the actor playing Anakin before. You just don't remember when. It was TURBO TIME!!
So you are absolutely correct that Natalie Portman is Queen Amidala, but her "decoy" is Kira Knightley, and while on set, in makeup, even their mothers confused them.
Jesus Coby I thought you were my age and I’m 27! Love the vids ❤
