Do you understand what you are witnessing in this performance? This man was terminally ill and he sang this difficult aria on pure technique. When you think of Dmitri, you think of a singer who sang from his heart. However, here, you get to see the true technician that he was. AMAZING!!!!!

I was there. It was the only time I ever saw Dima. I only got into opera about a year after he was diagnosed. I was 13 years old and sitting near the back of the orchestra, and I had a cold. I have more than half a century of opera-going in the future. I’m sure I will see over a thousand performances. No matter how many performances I see, I have no doubt that this will remain one of the most treasured operatic experiences of my entire life, even to the very end. Thank you, Dima. We love you so much and will never forget you. May you Rest In Peace.

I've watched this video at least one time per year since Dmitri left. It's tremendously admirable this performance considering his terminal disease condition. Of course, he's certainly below his highest level, but it makes me desire to be there at that moment and to appreciate just his pure heart and his pure talented singing art. For me, it's a true demonstration of pushing yourself by your passion until the end. Thanks god we have internet today making possible to access to Dmitri's great legacy forever. From Chile, my respects to the memory and legacy of this great russian baritone.

Dima got me through my fight with cancer as in hospital in London in 2015. Every morning for three and a half months being the first awake on the ward I would listen to Dmitri Hvorostovsky he gave me courage and belief I would recover. My doctors and nurses used to laugh saying Jacqueline gets up early to watch this very handsome man and he seems to working some magic.

Fortunate for all those in attendance; such a wonderful appearance!!
It's touching to see his appreciation for the audience who adores him and his return, which must not have been easy for him, though he seems as he always was. The more he advanced in age, and in life, the more dear he was to all of us..💞
He may have been from Russia, but I think we ALL claimed him as our own💞

I don't think I've ever cried as much with the death of another singer. Not that their deaths were not as tragic or true loses...it's just that Hvorostovsky's death really hit me hard. How I wish I had been present at this Gala. I cannot believe his strength and interpretation at such an advanced stage of such a despicable, dignity sucking decease. Seeing him slowly walking away, when he would normally vivaciously enter the stage with his magnetic presence....what an artist!!! Thank you for sharing it. Dmitri faced his death with courage and grace, his indomitable heart and spirit inspired the music world. HIS flashing smile, just there and gone was such a pleasure to see and though baritones were often written
as villains, one simply could not help adore Dmitri. The outpouring of love, I hope, made this silver-maned star's last days easier for both him, his wife and children!
