Many years back my wife and I were on holiday on the south coast of NSW and stumbled across a little town called Tathra. Up on the headland was a pub (MUCH superior than it is now) so we decided to grab some lunch. Our jaws dropped when coming onto the stage was The Amazing Rhythm Aces. We had always been fans but here they were. Go figure.
The more I learn about the compromises needed to become famous, the more I look at musicians like this band and realize they had probably had a strong moral code and wouldn't compromise for the fame. It doesn't make sense otherwise because they genuinely are great musicians.
What a well crafted tune. Great musicianship. These guys can play anything! Been a fan since the 70's. No lip sync, no overdub, no auto tune, just raw talent!
Along with Little, Feat The Band and The Allman Bros the ARA are right in there as one of 4 great American bands, the very best in American contemporary. Music! Saw 3 of the, above mentioned, bands Inc, ARA in Melbourne, Australia, Allmans never made it down under!
Thank you Columbia record company! The first album of my 13 albums for a penny. Stacked deck was my introduction to these guys. I've been a fan since '75. They never got the recognition they deserved from the industry, but their fans are the most loyal I've ever met. A song comes on, and you see that person across the room lose their mind and yell "turn it Up!!" And right away you know they are your kind of people, and they always have great stories. Oh, to be that 15 year old kid again, right?!
Dammit, your story is the very way I feel, I didn't get the album the way you did but I did get it through sneaking in my brother's room and going through his great collection of the mid 70s, I was born in 67 and long for these days to come back!
Fantastic Bluesy, country, folk. I dont know? Love the style, rythym, melody.... the way the whole song just rolls along. A new fan, I love the sound!!
Been my favourite band since the 70's. Have all their LP's. If I had known they were at the Basement I would have walked all the way from Brisbane to Sydney just to see them live.
I red these comments and we're all thinking,"why aren't the Aces going to town". I've been hearing more. One of the very best song writers in the industry.Russ is a word master
I passed on all the LP's to my son (born in 1985), I still have the CD's but the CD player only plays when it wants to. Thanks to all of you who post on the internet, You make me want to dance.
Loved this band but never had a chance to see them live. My state was in the deepest South and West but had too much water in between it and the rest of the US. I thought maybe we would see them on the way to or from Australia or Japan....sadly didnt happen as far as I know.
Just love this .....saw them in Auckland NZ in 77 supporting Leon Russell and they were sensational. Just wish I could find a clip of them doing Burning the Ballroom Down...best ever
Miss these guys. Had some fun back in the day (70something)! Didn't appreciate their music and Byrd's guitar enough back then. How did we get this old, Russell? lol
@MrFishnwhistle It may be no more than a Russell Smith show;but, damn it happy to see this. Time & such took a great group apart and scattered them across the universe...what's left isn't what was before but who is. I sure the hell ain't.

One of the most underrated singers of the past 50 years. Soul for days/years.

The way REAL music should be.
OMG they were over here. I was living way in the bush just working and living alone. Damn it how could I have missed them.
