      You know that idea is something James @ TFB TV would be expected to do. Mr tight shorts will never let that go unchallenged. Both of you will repel, detail strip left handed, in banana hammocks, while bikini wearing ladies in gorilla masks fly by and throw bananas at you both, on New Years Eve during the countdown and ball drop. Your battle will be legendary!

      @ShimmerySound the additional maintenance for a blued gun is minimal compared to stainless. I I’ve got several of both and if you simply wipe down your firearms after use neither will rust easily.

      I’m 30 and I grew up with all metal and steel guns, mostly blued. Plastic guns existed but dad didn’t buy em. I now have a collection of both styles.

    • @MattH-wg7ou
      @MattH-wg7ou 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ShimmerySound that's why they make em both! So we can both get something we prefer. I just love the look of blueing especially on a classic gun like this. 👍

    • @vinceruland9236
      @vinceruland9236 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ShimmerySound I like both. However, stainless doesn't mean "not stain-able", it means "stain-less". All firearms requires their finishes to be maintained no matter what finish they have.

      Have the Springfield Mil-Spec 1911. Already have the Beretta M9 so two generations of U.S. military sidearms! Want the Springfield SA-35 Hi-Power for the history lesson. Not interested in the Sig M17 but eventually may forced to buy it to complete the “modern” U.S. pistol sidearm legacy. Might as well. Got the 1911 and M9 already.

    I just recently purchased the Mil-Spec 1911. It feel nice…And very heavy. It’s also around $250 cheaper than the Garrison. I want it because the Mil-Spec has that old, classic ancient WW II 1911A1 look…Yes, I know it has a few modern additions but laymen will never tell the tale. I always say if I have to pay $1,200 for a 1911, I might as well get a second FN FNX-45 Tac! The Mil-Spec fits the bill nicely!

    Hello Justin. Great review man. The Garrison sure seems like a solid platform to build from if one wanted to upgrade a 1911. The only change that I'd make to it would a be set of TruGlo fiber optic tritium low profile sights. I've found these to be excellent sights day or night (yep! the glow in the dark) as they seem to wind up on many of my semi auto hand guns, and a bevy of good 8 round magazines. I've owned a few 1911's over the years from Colt, Kimber, Springfield Armory, even had a WWII Ithaca manufactured 1911A1 service pistol. The Garrison has definitely gotten my attention. Thanks for the review. Be safe.

    I've had my Garrison .45 for almost a year now and already put roughly 2,500 rounds through her and she's hardly ever let me down!!
    Some mods I've made are: I swapped the factory 16 lb recoil spring for a Wilson Combat 18.5 lb spring. Handles the recoil of 230 grain .45s noticeably better than the 16 lb spring. Adds to the reliability too! I also added a Wilson Combat shok buff. Minimizes slide to frame battering and softens up recoil even more.

      Well, with 1911, it’s not bad if you want more mags and don’t mind the 7 rounders. I bought 2x 7 rounders for around $30. Not bad at all….Compared to the FN FNX-45 Tac mag I had to get. Yes, the original FNX had three mags three years ago. But yeah, these days, FN removed a mag to keep the price the same. I keep one loaded for home defense and one mag is simply no fun so bit the bullet and got a second one….Total price is $63….!!!! Sigh, you can get four 1911 7 rounders with that!

  • @zutt3
    @zutt3 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You recently reviewed the Emissary. Between the Garrison and the Emissary (I know they're not exactly same and there's a price difference) which one would you recommend, or which one would you buy as your first 1911. Furthermore, the Garrison (.45) or the Emissary 9mm (as first 1911 given the current ammo sit.)? Thank you for the reviews.

    • @JustinOpinionChannel
      @JustinOpinionChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, they are both awesome and have significant differences - but if I'm recommending a first 1911 or one to someone that is really budget minded, it will be the Garrison. It has all the core features plus a few - and the quality is excellent (and not "for the price"... it's just plain excellent).

      If you want to go even cheaper, Springfield also make the Mil-Spec 1911 that’s only $550 but it’s even more “no-frill” than the Garrison. However it matters where it counts the most, trigger, reliability and looks. It has the classical WW II M1911A1 look down pat with a few modern upgrades that’s it. A great consideration if you want an entry level 1911 and don’t want to break the bank on a $1,200 Kimber.

      I say springfield, because all their 1911s have forged slides, frames, and forged match grade barrels. Including their mil spec 1911s . Ruger, i believe uses the casting process on their 1911s .

      @Dale Ross You want a 1911 go for it. Nothing wrong with them. But a new look variant every other week is just marketing.

      @@roadrunnergtx68 Limited capacity. Single action only trigger. Complicated disassembly. There are so many pistols based on the Browning tilting barrel that remedy these problems that have been remedied for decades, would I risk my family's lives to a 1911? You bet I would, I would bet my family's lives on a 1851 Colt navy as well, they are finely crafted and well designed weapons, but both are obsolete compared to a Cz-75, Beretta M-9 or a (forgive me lord) Glock 17.

    • @roadrunnergtx68
      @roadrunnergtx68 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They are all limited capacity. Designed by the legendary John Moses Browning, an American who also designed the Browning 9mm high power (Incidentally he died on the bench designing the high power in Belgium and it took Fabrique Nationale several years to finalize his work). The 1911 is the universal platform of all automatic pistols. Browning also designed the BAR, an auto loading rifle chambered in 30-06. For you to say it's an obsolete relic of the past is immature and absurd. Do your homework before you post ridiculous comments.

    • @DanielMartinez-lz3ot
      @DanielMartinez-lz3ot 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@roadrunnergtx68 Not just Browning, but as important to the high power design was Dieudonné Saive, a genius in his own right, who worked closely with Browning. So, what do you mean "they are all limited capacity"? I have an older Cz-75 so it's capacity is 15 rounds, but that is still considered "high capacity," the Beretta M-9 comes with a 17 round mag so I think that qualifies as high capacity too. Oh and the Beretta is a delayed locking block, not a tilting barrel, So the1911 is OBVIOUSLY NOT the universal platform that you want to believe so badly, the Makorov, the H&K P-7, the high point, the Walther ppk, all use a different system, oh and btw, the Walther pp models were the first to come in double / single action in 1938!
      Also the Browning automatic rifle action isn't used in most firearms today. So who hasn't done his homework, who is acting immature? I get it, I hurt yer little feelers, but it is you, sir, that needs to do some homework, to think I worked the last 10 hours and come home to your sad sack, whiny BULLSHIT, thanks dad.

      @@DanielMartinez-lz3ot All this information you just discovered I already know. I own a Berreta, Glock, SA XDM, S&W M&P just to name a couple. I've been buying firearms when you were floating in your daddy's little left testicle. A pistol with a 19 rnd mag or whatever is still limited to 19 rnds. You also don't know math. Stick to your games on your phone, it's what little punks like you do best.

    Been going back and forth on how much I want to spend for something I'm likely to only use at a range, from the Garrison to a TRP or further up to a Dan Wesson (though a lot of the stories I've seen about galling and rust issues has kind of turned me off to that idea) only thing is I've been looking for a stainless model and to probably no surprise damn things are hard to come by.
