Thank you so much for featuring Justin Milton. I enjoy Urban Thrillers and produced my 1st urban thriller feature film last year that was distributed on Tubi. It is always a pleasure to learn from those who came before and paved the way for other filmmakers in the indie low-budget high-quality films targeted toward the black/brown community.

Great and inspiring interview as I'm currently working on my first feature length film. As a black man, I feel you on not wanting to make "hood movies". I grew up in New York City during the 80s crack era where sometimes we slept in bathtubs due to all the bullets flying around and that's not something I want to glamorize. My first film is a "romantical" comedy and my second is a thriller with a twist. I'm the writer, director, dp, sound guy, editor and colorists. LOL. I'm also deciding on whether to submit to Maverick or take it to Film Hub. I'm not a fan of festivals. To me it seems like an old way of thinking, especially when you can go directly to the consumer now. I'm in a ton of Facebook groups and I notice a difference between black filmmakers and others. We just make shit. Sometimes it's bad (as you can see on Tubi) but we learn and make the next ones better and improve. We don't tend to sit around and wait to be discovered at a film festival or talk ourselves into insisting we can't make a proper movie unless we can get 100k in investor money. We just do it for better or for worse. We understand that a major part of Tubi's success was due to the Black Cinema section. Yes those low budget movies that might have crappy audio and bad cinematography. Lol. The movies that go ignored by the general public but has black audiences going wild for them. Black filmmakers have been making quite a bit of money lately and hopefully this trend continues. Again, great interview. And what's funny is my wife and I just watched Karen last week. Best believe I studied every shot.

Be great to know how many shoot days you’re doing? Also, how many crew. Might shoot in Houston myself someday. Great stuff. Thx!!

Just worked on a film with him and we shot it in a few days, minimal locations and cast. It’s when you have multiple locations, lengthy dialogue/action and a big cast when things get complicated
