    Love the Thruxton! Had a 2011 in Diablo Red with twin Arrow cans. Ohlins out back with Racetek up front. Gave to my nephew in 2018 for Christmas. Been missing it. Eleven years later, the 2022 Thruxton RS Ton Up will be gracing my garage sometime in May.

      Congrats - can you still get a standard Thruxton R in plain silver metallic like my 2016 or is the RS the only sporty Thruxton available now? I just feel the RS model is just too fussy but would like to upgrade my 2016 with another one exactly the same.

    Nice calm and informative review. I’ve owned an R now for three years. The front fairing does not really do much for blocking airflow. Puts air flow a little higher up on your chest but your helmet is still out in the wind.

    You mention similarities between the thruxton and speed twin quite a bit in the video. After riding both quite a bit they really are very different bikes.
    The speed twin seems to make up for the lack of sportiness in the street twin while keeping a modern look. The bike has fantastic components and great pick up and breaking. But without a windscreen it's tough when riding over 120-140kmh whereas the wind starts to affect the ride on the thruxton over 160kmh.
    On the speed twin under heavy breaking there is nowhere to brace, so the nuts get a bit crushed on the tank too often. On the thruxton you can weight the hands and knees under breaking, and also feel more at one with the road when cornering.
    The speed twin is a fun bike but very different to the thruxton.
    And the thrux is a real beauty!

    • @TommyBarnezTV
      @TommyBarnezTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah very different, my comparison was more because it's the same engine in both.
      Thruxton R would get my vote as its bloody beautiful!

      Matt i tried the two of both and the speed twin is a bike that makes twisted roads more easy than the truxton, a cafe racer tends to be more straight riding ;)

      I'm wondering why he says "power is fine." I am wondering when 97 horsepower became "fine" for a parallel twin? This is unprecedented, and is twice as much horsepower than typical parallel twins. I would assume that this thing has seriously violent torque, and acceleration, because the peak horsepower is made at only 6750 rpms (about 1/2) of normal sport bikes).

Now that triumph opened up the ECU, the tune I have, road mode is like the stock "sport mode" (except better fueling and throttle response, and "sport mode" is a whole new animal. Its a rocket. I bought my 2016 Thruxton R in 2019 (non faired) in silver the best colour. I am not such a fan of the fairing. Problem is you have to put an extender bracket on for the headlamp which moves it quite a bit forward and that spoils the profile of the bike as it just makes it too long looking.

    I test rode both a Street Twin and a Speed Twin. I haven't got to ride one of these yet.
    As a recently passed my Mod2 middle aged newbie biker, both the Street Twin and Speed Twin blew me away . (125s are so slow !)
    I guess I got put off the Thruxton by the price (The Speed Twin is also more than I was initially prepared to pay for a first big bike. )
    After a second test ride of the Street Twin I was finding it's performance was pretty good, but not in the same ball park as the Speed Twin. I started to think that I might get used to a Street Twin too quickly
    Where can a pillion sit on the Thruxton ? Does the back piece of the seat come off to show a pillion seat ? My wife quite liked the seat on the less racier Bonnevilles, so I suppose a Speed Twin is about a sporty as I can go , with all the torque she'll still have to hang on , I guess I'll have to get her a back rest when one becomes available ( more on that later ).
    I also got put off the Thruxton by MCN saying 1 hour on it and your wrists are aching, which is about 5 hours less than on a Speed Twin.
    As for looks, I prefer the cast wheels on the speed twin , tubeless tyres and easier to clean.
    I prefer the pear shaped tank on the Speed Twin, although the Thruxton's looks quite good.
    The stainless exhaust pipes look better on the Thruxton than the stock black rear end section on the Speed Twin. I think I can live with the black pipes until I get the cash to change them !
    One issue is the Speed Twin is so new , Triumph or anyone don't yet seem to sell a rack on which a top box can go ( one is available for the Thruxton , but I don't believe it fits the Speed Twin)
    On the negatives, I found the indicator switch a bit sticky on the Speed Twin , I'm guessing the Thruxton may use the same switch gear.
    Also why do Triumph over complicate flashing of the front lights ? My ex Honda CB125R was much more intuitive in that respect and had a better indicator switch.
    Overall they're very similar bikes , so all I'll have is a softened up Thruxton called the Speed Twin and save a bit of cash to boot !

    • @TommyBarnezTV
      @TommyBarnezTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice! Well done on the mod2!
      Wrist ache on the thruxton - I didnt get any at all though a couple have commented about it.
      Thruxton tyres - also tubelss btw. Spokes would take more cleaning time though.
      Pillion - really not sure there. Personally I wouldnt take a pillion on a bike like this. I quite often have the gf on the back of my bike - v Strom. Thruxton for me would be a fun bike. I recently took out the tiger 800 which was excellent. Not an exciting bike, but great at what it does, part of me regrets not getting one instead of the v strom. Review of that will be up in coming weeks.
      I tend to take the view that one bike wont fit every need however if you have a clear idea of what you want from a bike you can then find the right solution. I say this as if pillion passenger is high on list along with luggage etc then there are probably more suited bikes out there

    • @karlosh9286
      @karlosh9286 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      TommyBarnezTV
      Thanks on the mod2 :)
      Having a pillion is reasonably high on the list of priorities, but higher was I wanted a classic looking bike that I wouldn't get bored of too quickly. The Street Twin whilst not slow , didn't seem massively overpowered, and the T120 looks a bit heavy and not as well handling. I did want a flattish seat for a pillion. Lots of modern bikes put the pillion very high up .
      The flatter seats only seem to be available on the Bonnevilles, Honda CB1100 , Kawasaki Z900 (something), Kawasaki W800 and Royal Enfield Interceptor ·
      I agree all machines , bikes or cars are compromises .I guess tourers are better for pillions, although if I go touring, this may sound like sacrilege, I'm thinking of getting a bike trailer, and do all the boring horrible motorway miles in the car, and have the bike for the pretty roads when I get to where I'm going. Plus I will not have any luggage issues with a car too.
      I also doubt I'd get my wife on the back of a bike for more than an hour at a time.
      I do want a top box , and it sounds like Tec Bike parts are going to make a rear rack for the Speed Twin by sometime late August. I guess a ruck sack will have to do for a while.
      I didn't really want a touring bike just yet . I'd never say never. Currently I guess a second bike is more likely to be some cheap annonymous A2 bike to leave at the station, or maybe I'll go full bore and get some silly supersport maybe even superbike, both of which look like you really can't sensibly use on the road. Bike 2 will probably be the cheap A2 bike , the Speed Twin will probably be more than fast enough for me !

    I've been debating between the Thruxton R, the Kawasaki Z900RS, and the GT650 Royal Enfield. All the other motorcycles are all so ugly that they should stop being manufactured immediately, due to their extreme morbid ugliness. The Thruxton and Royal Enfield are the best looking bikes. What's interesting is that people don't seem very excited about the 97 horsepower Thruxton? But *everyone* has been absolutely excited about the Kawasaki Z900RS. Judging by the excitement level of the reviews I've watched, the Z900RS is the best motorcycle ever produced in history. Just look up a review, and you'll see. So I'm wonder if the engine vibes, or the lack of high RPM performance, is what is making people less excited about the Thruxton.

    wow, it sucks you have to blur the speedo..... This bike fyi isn't like the speed twin, its the other way around. The speedtwin is made for going slow. If you ride the bike over 60 mph you need to be in the TTR riding position. Riding in the speed twin position, you need a windshield.....

      Fully agree. The speed twin has great power but the seating position isn't great for riding at speed and also heavy breaking. On the thruxton the riding position gives less wind resistance, and you can brace with your knees better under breaking. TTR gives a much more aggressive and fun ride ... And BTW there is only 1 real mode on this bike - sport.

      @@mattg4934 Every reviewer that compares the speed twin to the thruxton and says the riding position is more comfortable on the speed twin is A: not very intuitive, and doesn't understand much about what happens when you ride a bike, B: They expect riders to ride a motorcycle that's very sporty and fast, at slow speeds, or C: they never rode either bike at high speeds and have no idea of what the comfort is. Buying either bike, your going to do most of your riding at the speed where the TTR is far more comfortable and usable. If this isn't true, then buy a scooter. Honda makes some cool ones that don't need any shifting so you save money and you can get a cute basket to carry your groceries.

      Haha right on Jay. With you 100% on this. But rather than the scooter, I have the T120 for my comfort rides where I want to just cruise.
