Finished another play-through of a classic game I'm sure most of you have played before--this time without the assistance of the god-tier character "Orlandu." This game is a bit underwhelming towards the end, as the difficulty drops off steeply. I probably could've won with just two characters. Shrug
Still a dope game; I'd like to play the PSP remake some day for the new translation and gameplay tweaks, but I don't have a PSP, I guess I'll have to wait for the conversion project to be completed.
Seeing "This game is complete" was one of the best moments of my young gaming career.

Same here. I still say it's the hardest Final Fantasy to date. Losing party members after spending hundreds of hours levelling them up is pretty devastating. But there was just some fights where for instance they had an unblockable petrified spell. I love The Secret/chance characters was one of my favourite parts. that lancer whos name idk, Close Strife, that awesome robot. My favourite too early PS games were Xeno gears and final fantasy tactics
This was my first ever FF title. I obsessed over it b4 I was able to own it, I remember a time where it wS really expensive before they re-released it and sold it for like 20 bucks completely dropping the floor in it lol

Well when you have a Javelin that can do 900 damage you wouldn't exactly need Orlandu or any other character for that matter. May as well solo the boss
When you have a wizard with math skill holy that deals 999 damage to the entire map, you don't need jesus.
Beowulf does 775 with drain and Excalibur lol. I was thinking of making a video though not worth the work (let alone cloud data on remake would have me do all the final battles to be bored lol) as it seems to be public knowledge though the boss didn't even get 1 turn lol until I let her. Let alone Reis holy breath with tynar rouge can hit the middle panel multiple times for 1200. Orlandu is just a handicap for those who are too young (ie 14 year old me) or don't know how to break the game (even trolled boss with double holy with white mage Reis and a mime, which it is broken even without math skill due to the boosts).

@@aee3234 My lancer with just Item skill auto potion attack up and move hp up Was dishing out like 3-400 per hit on physical attacks. Lol. MY characters were honestly over powered. I didn't even get to use the Calculator class I unlocked it at the end then ended up doing the final battle easy as hell. I didnt even realize I was that far into the game. I thought It was the half way point lol.

that was what the story writer was going for, delita represents 'false good' which is doing bad things for good ends and ramza represents 'true good' doing good deeds for the sake of doing them, regardless of reward or recognition.
I ran through the last two battles with just physical attacks like swiss cheese. I was actually shocked at how easy the final two battles were.
Yep, the devs had one massive difficulty spike (Riovannes castle) & then more or less ran out of juice, even disregarding Orlandu.
@RunningWildVidya There were a few annoying fights for me. Fort Zeakden, the Gafgarion ambush stage where Ramza is stuck fighting him, multi-part Wiegraf fight at Riovanes, multi-part Marquis Elmdor fight with his assassins that have 100% instant kill moves... I think there are more, the Izlude fight is pretty tough, too.
I wish this game would come out on the Switch. I loved the remake for the GBA. The original was tough. Perma death and having to recruit low level soldiers made it impossible for me as a kid.
It was not a remake, it was its own thing, and chronologically it was the first game, with this being the last and FFXII somewhere in the middle.
This game atmosphere /artstyle is something unique
Its a shame they didnt make this fight as epic as the music! They had the perfect opportunity to make this battle more difficult when they remade the game for the psp. Still a masterpiece as is tactics ogre which also has a very easy end boss! It seems to be a theme with tactical rpgs, ff tactics 1 and 2 for the gba and ds also had easy final boss fights as did tactics ogre the knight of lodis
My first time beating this game I had Agrias sacrificing herself with moving next to the boss, so she would take damage as well with her spell, beating her. Hilarious yet satisfying.
After the Weigraf fight there was no challenge. But I remember that fight being so hard everything before it was done to prepare for it.
wiegraf is difficult only because casual players face him unprepared. At that point, most gamers try to muscle their way through all kind of enemies with no baring to tactics or maybe, if pressured by a powerhouse (till that point you don't face real challenges), go all vs one against the boss but going solo against wiegraf with a tactically inferior, party dependant Ramza spells doom to many players. I remember the first time I played FFT (a long time ago) I went monk against him and destroyed his ass on the second try (after being overwhelmed by holy sword).

The reason why it gets easier with game time it's because you get better equipment and a larger skill set, it's only logical, you're used to fighting face to face, mano a mano with underdeveloped enemies but wiegraf has the gamebreaking holy sword skills at his disposal which don't even require that much skill to turn battles to his advantage. Actually, what I think screws the game up terribly is recruiting Orlandu. He is too overpowered. Excalibur and full holy sword skills? it's just too much... from that point on you go Orlandu soloing the whole game... and you will probably win.

Orlandu was a gamebreaking character. But Weigraf was something else. It is kinda like you said, up until that point you went through the game a certain way and it worked but then this guy comes along and it is a different challenge all together.
but it has nothing to do with casual gamers. That is bs. If you did not have Ramza built a specific way you were in trouble. There is nothing casual about deciding to make Ramza a mage and then get destroyed by Weigraf. Unless you had a guide or heard from someone else about what to expect the fight was luck. If you happened to build Ramza a certain way it may not have been too difficult.
it was not luck based, it was about being able to survive without the rest of the squad. Most gamers would just charge and hope a white mage or another support would throw them a phoenix down or a potion when needed. You could defeat wiegraf anyway you like as long as you could have equal or more speed than him. Velius was hard, really hard. Wiegraf wasn't
I lump both battles as the Weigraf fight. To me the first part was harder than when he transformed to Velius. How do you know what most gamers did? This was before the internet was widespread. You could not defeat Weigraf anyway you like and it was more than having equal or greater speed; you had to have a significant edge in speed.
It was a difficult fight and the suggestion that it was only difficult for casual players is absurd. If you had prior knowledge of the fight then you know what to expect and the difficulty is drastically lowered. But if you played the game when it was first released and went into it without knowing what to expect it was difficult.
im talking from personal experience. It's not congruent to forget that fact to make it look like I base my assumptions from others gameplay. FFT was/is not a very complex game. The help menu was very friendly so you could really abuse the system. Im talking about having high bravery + martial arts for example, mana shield + mp regen walking, chakra and earth slash... you could do a real lot of thing to defeat wiegraf without any real problem besides being attacked twice by him, ergo you needed equal speed at least.
There was a particular kind of freedom when I played this game as a young lad.
I wish I had heeded the lessons it gave me about religion earlier. It would have saved me a ton of pain.

Wow the continent where everyone worship this being is actually a monster. Ramza, Alma and his party fought against it saved their world. If only people knew the saint is devil.
@RunningWildVidya I've heard of it, I don't think the majority of the game needs to be more challenging, because the beginning of the game is still pretty tough - it's how the difficulty tapers off rapidly in chapter 4 and becomes way too easy.
Thats a crazy fn fast finish right there. Favourite part of the game was collecting the optional character such as Orlandu, Cloud Stirfe , that awesome robot & the lancer that among many others. It always felt great when u could capture an enemy. I must've spend 500 hours or more grinding & figuring out all the secrets. This was in 98 well b4 the net rose tk popularity and I was 15 there wasn't an option to get the 60 strat guide

Deciding you don't need Orlandu is the decision to take the training wheels off of the bike.
Not really, game is already easy and still is without him. The only parts of the main game that are difficult are some of the story battles that have game overs if an NPC dies, or maybe the 3 part Riovanes section. Game gets easier as it goes on, Orlandu comes at a point you should already be stomping everything.
onion knight is a class unlocked when all jobs are mastered, basically the onion knight has access to all abilities in the game.

You can beat the original game at level 1. My best achievements are a blitz Ninja run and no deaths, falls, and game overs. I have beat the game in many different ways. We can mod the game to be more challenging these days though. Congrats doing it without Orlandu-it takes me back.
Who here messed up getting cloud the 1st time and re-played the entire game with just that in mind?
Just finished this for the first time a few days ago. I binged it in about a week, so some of it is a blur, but I did EVERYTHING that EVERY guide I could find told me to do. I could NOT get the temple battle to trigger that gives you human Reis, which is apparently a prerequisite to getting Cloud. I beat the game (rather easily I might add, it's insane how much you can break this game) but I just feel this emptiness, because there's a good chance I'll NEVER play through this again. 😭😭😭
Javelin II, you get it from Nelveska Temple. Bloody hard to obtain, though.
I remember my ramzas job was between samurai and ninja, he was so powefull! I miss this game...
Life tip: When confronted with an angry god, poke him/her/it with a stick.
Well, in addition to that weapon, he had the samurai 2-hand perk for even more damage.
you should sell your potions so the only ones you have in inventory are the highest possible, so when you auto-pot it does that instead of the regular potion :D
Yeah Orlandu is the man. However its not difficult at all to own if you know what you are doing in this game without Orlandu, Agrias, Mediadoul, or the Dark Knight job (If you have the War of the Lions version). Also didn't cheese in this game with an Arithmetician/Calculator also. :) I beat the game with Ramza as a Monk, 2 Generic Monks, Generic Black Mage with Summoner as secondary, and a Vampire Cat monster. :) This is a classic fun game anyway anyone can play. Great vid.

Dude threw a yagyu darkness when he could throw a chaos blade.
there was a hack that makes this battle so much more satisfying. altima's speed is increased 6x giving several turns between your team. makes the fight a LOT more challenging as you're trying to keep your guys alive and not have their charging interrupted... and it gives Altima more HP. velius' fight was pretty scary stuff, there's no reason why they didn't put make altima that much harder.
Ramza : The decedant of a warrior who fought bravely against demons of the past and a very important unit to FFT. That claimed him as a "heretic" but asides his power to slay down the whole zodiac demons circle he died being still a *FUCKING SQUIRE*

That Wiegraf fight took me about 30 tries and I couldn't get out.
I just cheesed Ultima with percental damage. Lich, Drain and Climhazzard are so ridiculous, especially considering that your stats are irrelevant to them and Drain is obscenely spammable.

all this fuss over 900 damage. give a monk two-swords skill and a bracer and you can do 1,998dmg = 999x2
be a Wizard with magic gaunlet with magic attackUP and math skill = Holy 999 damage on ALL enemies (allies to have accessories to absorb holy)
This game gave me so many problems my first time through- I had to restart against weigraf/belias. Now it’s on my phone I can play whenever. I have a ramza level 6 dark knight a couple battles into the first chapter, so when I ever want to replay the game I take it from there...
His drain on the final boss does like 600-999 damage
I thought while watching this I'll see some strategy and some struggle(lvl 45) but all I saw was overpowered characters to the roof with no challenge at all.what's the point of putting no orlandu in the title if all the other characters are more powerful than him.
Veralian IV Why no one can accept a video for what it is, is beyond me. I did a lot of side content and I don't see how I'm OP if I'm still using skills like auto potion 30. This boss has always been very easy every time I play through the game. Orlandu's skill set is what makes him powerful, so I opt not to use him because he breaks the game. I'm using pretty basic classes that just happened to be built up nicely. To accuse me of cheating when I'm doing reasonable damage is hilarious. Learn your shit.
Lodey I know my shit since I got that javelin before.Using auto potion 30 ain't an excuse if the enemy can't even touch you also Dealing 900 dmg means that you need to have at least have 30 ATK(zodiac compatibility excluded) ,so either you're cheating or using the delevel trick which is a poor way to make you characters such as ramza very uber.Your game is already broken to not use orlandu.

Monks are incredibly OP in this game.
Here is another broken combination guns+dual wield and yes monks+dual wield is broken as well
My first Playthrough i decided to make ramza a monk early in the game. It was because the squire class were horrible in comparison to other initial class like the Holy Knight, Dark Knight and other special class the guest characters could have. The damage from normal attacks without any weapon were very high, most of the monk abilities are very good, no cost, instant cast, good range. So when i faced wiegraf in the one on one battle i smashed him. I was very lucky, and because of this Monk is my all time favorite class in FFT

I equip Ramza with ragnarok and master double hand from the samurai job. I deal 888 damage with that.
Anyone that was like me grew up to these games but I have a ps5 now yet craved to play ff tactics vandel hearts 1 and 2 get duckstation download then download the ps1 bios then finally get the roms I've had 0 probs all games work built in cheats plus u can enhance the graphics really is a brilliant emulator comes to something when I'm playing this bought silent hill for ps5 on release day yet still ain't completed

He is probably equipped with the Javelin II. That has a very high base damage second only to the Chaos Blade. Anyone twirling that is a powerhouse. :)

The game was tough for me the first time ever, but once you know what you're doing and how to build up a well-balanced squad and abuse the game's mechanics, even the scaling system can't compete. Thanks for the comment!

this boss should have had fast charging aoe spells and a massive speed rating (20+) so it could take at least a turn and a half per round. (as in every 2 rounds he goes three times unless your characters are also set up for speed and high level.) as long as i had access to any end game gear i could easily beat this poor excuse for a final boss with 2 level 1 generic characters. Maybe even a single level 1 character if i played carefully :/

Personally I cheated and gave myself the two attacks an full map aoe and fast casting too.
So far it's 1 hit win on any mission but I can't wait for the boss fight since she will probably kill me many times with badass attacks XD

How did you get that? With the exception of those mage guns, guns do square of weapon power of damage, so a Fomulhaut would do 324
